Replacement needed!
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=87273#gamePanel

Austria was banned for multi. Would be great if someone replace him. The positio is definitely playable and would really help balance out the game. Anybody would be greatly appreciated!

Playing Italy
I am not looking for specific advise, as I don´t play Italy at the moment. But I realized the other day that it is an interesting country to play. Quite weak, but interesting. If you back the wrong horse, you´re screwed. What, in your opinion, are the most enterprising tactics with Italy?

Process cycle
Can't find it in the FAQ, so I post it here. I just joined a live game, which I rarely do. Now it says: "7 players joined; game will start on next process cycle". How do I know when it starts? When is this next process cycle?

"Resigned" vs. "Left"
What is the difference?
mattsh (775 D)
14 May 12 UTC
I tried searching through forums and FAQs but couldn't find an answer. I'm just curious -- not one to bail on an on-going game.
yebellz (729 D(G))

"Left" means that the player has CDed in any ongoing game. The player can return to the game or be replaced. If a game ends, while the player is in the Left state, it becomes a "Resigned".
cspieker (18223 D)
14 May 12 UTC
This is as I understand it from a similar question that I have asked in the past:

"Left" happens if you don't submit moves two turns in a row (move turns maybe?).

"Resigned" is what it is called if your position is still in "left" status when the power is defeated or the game ends. I think that if someone else takes over before the game end then you are no longer considered to have "resigned" (which is dumb).
fulhamish (4134 D)
14 May 12 UTC
It really pisses me off when a poorly positioned player supposedly ''leaves'' a game only to keep watch and jump in several years later in attempt to get a share of the draw. As I understand it, said player does not pay a points penalty to do this. It is the height of unsportsmanship, and, in my view, the code needs amending on this.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Returning from a left position should require a rebuy just as a takeover does.
fulhamish (4134 D)
14 May 12 UTC
@ Draug ''Returning from a left position should require a rebuy just as a takeover does.''

I do not think that is currently the case, although I do not know for sure. Can anyone help with this?
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 May 12 UTC
I said it should, not it does. i was proposing a solution to the sneak draw returnees.
fulhamish (4134 D)
14 May 12 UTC
I see thank you for that. I fully agree with your proposal. Has this been suggested to the ''powers that be''?
yebellz (729 D(G))
14 May 12 UTC
Would returning to a CDed position always be a bad thing? Requiring a rebuy would decrease the chances that the original player would return to legitimately play out the game to minimize disruption.
fulhamish (4134 D)
14 May 12 UTC
@yebellz, the fact is some people use it as a tactic. In my view this is a nasty piece of bad sportsmanship. If it doesn't happen in the board game, it shouldn't happen here either.
DipperDon (6457 D)

The number of "resigned" games can be very under reported. There are a lot of players who quit games and then use a second account to take over the position for a turn to erase the flag showing them as resigned. I know for a fact that a number of high ranking players have done this to project a false image of them not leaving too many games. There are always people who find ways to game the system.
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 May 12 UTC
That sounds an awful lot like a cheating accusation to me. And if you "know for a fact" then report it to the mod and get the duplicate accounts banned and the main accounts warned/docked/or outright banned for cheating. But don't do veiled public accusations or you may find yourself punished for violating the forum rules.

Seriously Draug, DD, didn't name names, he just stated his knowledge. That's nothing at all like a cheating accusation.
Victorious (768 D)
17 May 12 UTC
@ DipperDon, i dont think your right. If someone leave a game, and anyone else would take over, that person still gets a resign on his name.
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 May 12 UTC
Actually, Victorious, the "left" state gets dropped and the resign never gets recorded if the player is replaced. You have it incorrect and DD has it correct. Whether or not the "high ranking players" part of his statement is even remotely true, I don't know. It has been my experience as one of the top 100 players in the past that I have never had a high ranking player CD in a game with me. Period. But DD is correct in how left and resigns work.
DipperDon (6457 D)
17 May 12 UTC
I've only been back after being gone from webdip for two years, so I don't know if the same players are still doing it, but yes, some of them are on HoF. Naming names is pointless. The system needs to be fixed so that people can't do it.
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 May 12 UTC
@Dipper - It's not pointless to name names to the mods. Seriously, take your evidence to them and get the situation rectified. I trust you are being up and up, so let them handle it. But they can't handle it if you don't gibe them what you have.
DipperDon (6457 D)
18 May 12 UTC
Draug, I have memories of watching people do it two years ago. I remember being 100% certain about what several people were doing and how they were doing it. That ain't proof. So all I can do is say "I know it happens", and that is what I have done.
DipperDon (6457 D)

I vote Witch Hunt ....... if you name names it's bound to cause a flurry of excitement.

Is it hard to program it in a way to make people leaving a game to be taken over by another have that resign on there record?

Why, Arizona...Why IS IT You Keep Doing/Allowing These Things In Your State?

OK, that's it--Kicking out Mexicans, banning ethnic literature, discussing a bill to fire women who take contraceptives, and now...a team forfeiting a baseball game rather than play a team with a girl because "the sexes should be educated separately." OK, that's it, Arizona--I officially give up on you as a state. Mexico--you can have it back!

Should I be suspicious?
Both of the last 2 games I have joined in the past week filled their remaining spots within minutes. In one of the games three 'players' joined the exact same minute and in the other at least three joined within a few minutes of each other. I am not accusing anyone, I am not going to mention the name of the games, but it sure seems likely this is the same person with multiple accounts. I want to exit the games, but I don't want to just sacrifice my points. What is my recourse?
