Well, I wanted to pummel France right off the bat, but then Germany proved to be a total mad dog who had to be put down. From that point, I had to make sure France couldn't run wild with Italy utterly ignoring him and play for the draw. Anyway, good game to all.

Colorblind Confusion
Is there any way to change the settings on my account so that in the Global messages it says somewhere (in text) which country had made each post? I am unable to discern the posts of Germany from those of Austria. Italy's are also hard to distinguish.

Oh, and England and France have basically the same color. Is there anything I can do to tell these messages apart?

This was a great game! It ended in a 3 way draw, after both myself and Austria made a run at winning the game. Don't have time yet, but I'll post mine later.

Woe is me! I had terrible bad luck.
Zmaj (215 D(B))

I started as Germany and was off to a promising start. Then came Spring 1902. France moves to Burgundy and Belgium, fine, I've prepared for that. England moves to Skagerrak, OK. Russia moves from Warsaw to Prussia... hmmm, I can deal with that, I guess... Austria moves to BOHEMIA and TYROLIA! I'm dead, and Austria too, of course. I somehow survive another eight years, helping France against a rising England, until I'm dispatched by both.

For a while it looks like England will be the winner, but it's only an illusion. With a France engaged in the north, a stark raving mad Austria and a Turkey embroiled with a moribund Russia, Italy is the favorite if he doesn't make any mistakes.

Italy's slow but inexorable advance is eventually stopped by England and France in 1917, one center short of the solo victory. It's a three-way draw.

Oh, I forgot the names: Italy was SplitDiplomat, England was Sargmacher and France was NoFog. I'm so disappointed that I couldn't play a better game with such great players, but it was definitely the fault of Austria, the aptly named "brainbomb".
Sargmacher (0 DX)

@Zmaj: I really wanted to work with you in the early part of that game but you gave me nothing in return. It was quite clear that you were going to try and take Belgium and Sweden and leave me nothing - so I plummed for Sweden.

I always feel that in English-German alliances, Belgium and Sweden should be divided 1 each between the two. You didn't give a sign that I could have either.

hey um first of all Zmaj, go play a violin for us then. Secondly I wasn't one of the poor sports who kept neglecting to hit ready on their orders just to be obnoxious. And your beginning as Germany and getting attacked by everyone

Anyways the point I was going to make is that your blaming the entire flow of the game on my taking Munich. Grow up.

Oh well, just saying by the tone of what you said it sure seemed like ridicule. I'm not that great at this game as you can see by my lackluster record, I don't have some fancy ghost rating, I mostly play this game F2F and do a lot better as countries which do not begin with an A

I really enjoyed reading this analysis of the battle by Germany, it was great fun. This was my first battle (I was Russia) and although I flopped because I didn't yet understand tactics etc. I felt it was a good learning curve and in future I will try and build new units! Anyway good game to my opponents. I felt England was going to dominate the whole contest especially due to my miscalculations in Russia :P and then France's swift domination of the Iberian peninsula gave them a chance but we all ignored the unrelenting advances of Italy and in the end he was unlucky not to win. Again, good game :)

1901: I managed to get all french builds. but i dont know why I built the army in marseille: there should have been a fleet.

spring 1902: trying to develope somehow in the north.

Autumn 1902: germany risked sweden for nothing. And gave an extra build to england. which I didnt like.
I had the longterm problem of only having 2 fleets against england. So my "dream" was to convoi an army in england to equalize your chances. But england didnt give me the chance to...

1903-1904: Bad news: russia feeds england without any resistance. Means more english fleets against me...

In Spring 1904: I made clear moves for germany to say him that I wanted to cooperate with him against england,

Autumn 1905: there was the point where I had to sacrife Germany to get my extra fleet by retreating to kiel.

1906-1908: I somehow manage to bring my units in the right order to resist england. Thanks to italy's support mid-atlantic was safe.
My 7 units were "the crictal mass" for my longterm surviving...

autumn 1909: only 4 powers remaining...

In spring 1912: turkey made the mistake to lose his position in aeagan sea. this did cost him his ticket to be part of the draw.

In spring 1913: the 3-way-draw is that obvisiously:
England started to voluntary retreat his units in russia to form the northern stalemate line. So I swifted my units to form a solid southern stalemate line. The long stalemate line only allows 17 centers for Italy.

Spring 1915 stalemate line is just perfect. Waiting for italy to finish his turkish meal...

Well, why did you go for both Sweden and Belgium?

Did you want to work with me initially? I failed to understand why Germany was trying to take every center, it seemed a bit selfish and didn't give a sign that you wanted to work together with anyone.

I feel for Zmaj. For whatever reason half the people who play Austria are so annoyed they just decide to screw up the game for somebody else.
Sargmacher (0 DX)

Germany moved to take Belgium, with an army in Holland and an army in Ruhr. I had severe doubts that those armies were both going to happily support an English ally into Belgium.
brainbomb (290 D)

no, leaving the game screws it up. Nobody says you have to make dull prescribed moves and be predictable if that's your prerogative Putin, go for it, but don't expect other people to simply do what is expected in a no messaging winner take all

Austria is born surrounded by three hostile powers who are within inches of Austrian SCs, and you decide to attack one of the few who has absolutely no interest in attacking you because you're "bored". In a gunboat no less.

Idea for balancing the game
Has anybody ever tried putting Turkey in control of Bulgaria in Spring 1901 and have him start in CD? Italy could choose to build either a fleet or an army in Rome as he chose. I wonder if that would work...
