Well, I wanted to pummel France right off the bat, but then Germany proved to be a total mad dog who had to be put down. From that point, I had to make sure France couldn't run wild with Italy utterly ignoring him and play for the draw. Anyway, good game to all.

Colorblind Confusion
Is there any way to change the settings on my account so that in the Global messages it says somewhere (in text) which country had made each post? I am unable to discern the posts of Germany from those of Austria. Italy's are also hard to distinguish.

Oh, and England and France have basically the same color. Is there anything I can do to tell these messages apart?

Quick rules question
Which rule takes priority?
*A dislodged unit's support order fails
**A province to which a support move order is submitted can not affect the province from which the support emanates.
Tasnica (3366 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
Could you give a concrete example?
rokakoma (19138 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
If the unit from the province to which the support move order is submitted dislodges the unit from which the order emanates then the support will have no effect.

I don't think there's priority, rule one is true always, rule 2 is false in the case I just wrote.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)

Support is always cut from a dislodged unit, no matter what.

Say, as a concrete example, that Mar attacks Bur supported by Gas. The unit in Bur attacks Gas supported by Bre. A unit in Bel moves to Bur.

Bur dislodges Gas, which means that the support is cut. Mar now moves to Bur without support, meaning that Bel-Bur and Mar-Bur bounce.

Two things can happen to stop this. If Spa support holds Gas, the unit is not dislodged, which means that the support is still valid, Mar-Bur dislodges Bur and Bel-Bur fails.

Also, should someone cut the support from Bre, the attack Bur-Gas will fail and support will be intact. The same thing happens.

For example Marseilles supports Gulf of Lyons to Spain, then Spain attacking Marseilles will not take away the support, and Spain falls. Spain can be bounced with a supported attack only, like Portugal supports Mid-atlantic to Spain. In this case Mid-Atlantic and Gulf of Lyons bounce

If Spain attacks Marseilles with Gascony support, then Marseilles will be dislodged and Gulf will have no support anymore, meaning mid-atlantic will take Spain, or mid-atlantic can bounce spain without support.

Vaft: thx, but such knowledge is very important in some cases. I have seen a player recently, in one of my top 50 GR gunboat ongoing, who certinly didn't know these, and used support hold instead of attacking the neighbour from elswhere, to take away possible support.

It's funny to see players so high rated make mistakes like these consistently, needles to say he was defeated, because I didn't have to count on him attacking my unit to take away support.

Knowing these rules, using them as needed, is essential.

Lol yeah now I do. I must have been really high. I read that the rules question you asked had the word "should" in it. I wasn't sure whether it was a legal or political thread you tried to start. To resolve the agony, I decided to troll that thread a bit. Anyways, sorry 'bout that.

I have a question that I'm totally bemused about. As I understood it a convoy can only be disrupted if it is dislodged. This means that a simple single attack on a convoy will not dislodge it so it will be successful. However, in a game I am playing at the monet my convoy was unsuccessful due to a single attack on it. How can that be? I know it is not good protocol to discuss ongoing games, so I won't provide a link.
rokakoma (19138 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
@DiploMerlin, if the convoying ship is not dislodged, then the convoy must succeed. Cause of failure can be something else, like a bounce at the target privince, or a misorder in convoying is very common.

Check your "orders" link, at the bottom of the gamepage
DiploMerlin (245 D)

Roka, can I privately send you the link? I've studied it and I guess I'm being really dumb.

While we're discussing convoy rules - anybody know which version of resolving paradoxes is used on this site?
SunZi (1275 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
@CSteinhardt
I can't speak from experience, so I could be wrong, but I believe the Szykman rule is used.
SunZi (1275 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
Simon Szykman alternative (reworded):
"If a situation arises in which an army's convoy order results in a paradoxical adjudication, the moves of all involved convoying armies fail and have no effect on the place where they were ordered to convoy."
Quick is a status effect of sorts that gives you the next active turn. Quick status can be gained by having the spell 'Quick' successfully cast on you or by having the reaction ability 'Critical Quick' triggered. The triggering of Critical Quick occurs when the unit with the ability equipped receives damage that leaves them with under 20% of their max HP.

While Critical Quick might not seem that great there are situations when it is the best reaction ability in the game. For a more reliant way to gain Quick, learn it for 800 JP from the Time Mage skill set. Quick costs 24 MP which might be a little costly but has decent speed (25) and a decent formula (targetsfaith*castersfaith*(MA+140)). Rig some zodiac compatibility between your group and Quick can be very reliable and fun to use.

Quick can be reflected (though not Math Skilled) but the most interesting thing about it is that it can be Counter Magicked! Seriously that exclamation point isn't one of the fake ones that should be a period, I actually used to get giddy when considering this. Look at the spells that can be Counter Magicked:

- All Black Magic except Fire 4, Ice 4, and Bolt 4
- Holy, Dark Holy
- Yin-Yang Magic except Pray Faith and Doubt Faith
- Slow, Slow 2, Don't Move, Quick, Stop, Demi, Demi 2, Meteor
- Bio, Bio 2, Bio 3
- Melt, Tornado, Quake
- Attacks from the Blaze Gun, Glacier Gun, and Blast Gun

So just how does Quick fit into all this? With the proper setup you can orchestrate a near-endless chain of Quicks within your team (sometimes referred to as The Quickening), acting and acting while almost no in-game time passes and the enemy sits there staring at your chain of constant action.
