What webDiplomacy really needs...
I very much miss multilateral negotiations here. Next to global broadcasts and bilateral correspondence, there ought to be the option to adress several (but not all) players at once. It's a very basic and very necessary feature that all Diplomacy judges have. webDiplomacy really needs to up its game on that one.

2010 Player of the Year
As some of you recall, I released a series of stats last year, as an unofficial player of the year award, using the data I get for Ghost-Rating.

Here is the 2010 version. (If someone formats it with links by each player's name I would be really grateful)

it's a shame to see a thread about the top statistical players of 2010 turn into this...whether the accusations turn out to be true or not.

This is especially stupid because Fasces is in a game with Silver Wolf right now and so clearly has a motivation to accuse him of cheating in order to influence others in that game. This definitely reeks of someone just being bitter that he has been outdiplomed by Silver Wolf.

Also I'm pretty sure that you are the cheater if you intend to lose 1/3 of the games you enter. That doesn't even make sense.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)

@ Fasces, damian, and anyone else making cheating accusations:

SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU PETTY, WHINING LITTLE WANKERS!

THE FORUM IS *NOT* THE PLACE FOR CHEATING ACCUSATIONS. EMAIL THE MODS, WAIT FOR THEIR RESPONSE, AND IN THE MEANTIME, SHUT UP!

Wells its pretty hard to sway people against silver wolf when everyone is already working against him.

I just copy+pasted the message I sent to the mods, and sent it to Frank. Anyone else who wants the copy of the message, I am happy to PM it to you.

"Also I'm pretty sure that you are the cheater if you intend to lose 1/3 of the games you enter. That doesn't even make sense."
Wrong, I like comming in seconds, I would much rather give the victory to a loyal ally, who wants the win more, then winning the game.

ebay must have had an outstanding all around year to win POY without finishing in the top three of any other catagory.

congrats, ebay.
Well if thats your intention you are not playing this game correctly.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
02 Jan 11 UTC
@ Fasces: Deliberately planning to lose a game from the outset in order to kiss the ass of your 'loyal' allies is metagaming, and pretty wretched metagaming at that.

Mods, will you please ban Fasces for his unacceptable metagaming?

"Well if thats your intention you are not playing this game correctly."
I am IMO

"@ Fasces: Deliberately planning to lose a game from the outset in order to kiss the ass of your 'loyal' allies is metagaming, and pretty wretched metagaming at that.'
its not from the beginning though. The first person to offer me a reasonable alliance with be my suck up. If he backstabs me, (which he will occasionally will) then I go for the win.
I find that a lot more fun then all this unhonorable crap everyone else does.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
02 Jan 11 UTC
@ Fasces: "It's not from the beginning though"

Well, that's not how you originally put it. You said "About 1/3 of the games I enter, I intend to lose" implying that you intended to throw the game from the outset.

Either way, you're a collossal asshole for filling the forum with your cheating allegations.
dishonourable crap everyone else does is the point. you can't win without stabbing. or you shouldn't be able to.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
02 Jan 11 UTC
Oh you can. You just get them to stab you.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
02 Jan 11 UTC
Which is why I don't like winning. If the only reason why I won was because of the help of a loyal allies, he deserves a fair share of the pot.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
02 Jan 11 UTC
@ Hellenic Riot - yeah, I love it when you manage to do that. Getting someone you intend to stab and making them so paranoid that they make a botched stab on *you* first, allowing you to appear to be defending yourself as you stab them. A bit like what Bismarck did to the Austro-Hungarians in real life!

against a cheater who ranked in the player of the year. Thats being an asshole. If it wasn't for this thread, I would have never emailed to mods because I would have assumed reporting him would be sufficient.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)

@ Fasces: "I don't like winning"

You're playing the wrong game. Winning is the OBJECT of this game. Please go and find a different one to play, and stop annoying all of us.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
02 Jan 11 UTC
@ Fasces: If you read the FAQ, it clearly directs you to email the mod email address if you have a problem such as suspected cheating.

It is also well established that you should NOT post cheating allegations on the forum ESPECIALLY when you are currently in a game with the member in question. It's really bad form and I feel justified for calling you out about it. Please never do it again.

Fair comment. It's not in the FAQ, it's in the rules:

Re: Silver Wolf

The guy (or girl, if I screw up your sex I apologize >_>) has played some 300+ games. I know I personally through 120 or so games have played with some people over and over and even have had a subconscious propensity to try and ally with these repeat people over the others in the game based on how reliable that person is. (As they'll tell you, though, this in no way spares them from the inevitable -- and usually crappy -- stab.) And I imagine that those who have played an extensive number of games subconsciously do the same. That may not even be what was going on... I'd be surprised if, through 300 games, Silver Wolf even REMEMBERS 99% of the people that have played in the same games, let alone makes an effort to ally with them based on it.

I mean, think about what you're asking. You're asking a user with over 300 games to go through every one of his games, pick out people that have appeared repeatedly over 300 games, and actively choose not to ally with them to avoid the APPEARANCE of cheating.

Now, taking advantage of pause requests and the like... eh. Personally I hate that kind of behavior, and I'd feel some resentment about it too if it happened, but that's not cheating. The actual cheating accusation is, quite frankly, ludicrous.

Hey Jamiet I'd appreciate if you left me out of this. The prime reason I even posted here was too simply state that there is at least some evidence so people would stop whining about that. However I'd like to distance myself from the side I'm supposedly on. Yes I have evidence I think is suspicious so I sent it in. I just want one way or another to have the mods look at said evidence and come to a conclusion. Until they do I think you should just lay off this squabbling he's innocent until proven otherwise

"Fair comment. It's not in the FAQ, it's in the rules:

Which is why Mulit-accounting comes to mind.

"Now, taking advantage of pause requests and the like... eh. Personally I hate that kind of behavior, and I'd feel some resentment about it too if it happened, but that's not cheating."
I am well aware of that, but he has still cheated.

Fasces - Come on. Stop emailing round accusations!
You say you haven't seen the rules page before, which is a shame but I know thats true of many people.
However, even now you have, you're still sending round accusations.
Fasces349 (0 DX)

I didn't see a rule in the rules where it stated that I wasn't allowed to accuse people of cheating.

However now that a mod has asked me to stop, I will stop.

Always try to have some clear reasons when contacting and do not mention it on the forum. In your report/email text you should include:

•If reporting a multi-accounter:
◦Links to the accounts of the players who you suspect. (If reporting via email)
◦Link(s) to any specific game(s) that raised your suspicions.
◦Any relevant information that you have noticed.
◦You do not have to tell us who you are, but it can be helpful. (If reporting via email)
◦If reporting via email please make the subject line more useful than "multis?" Something like "Multis: Username1 and Username2?" is more helpful for the moderators!

We will try to reply to you quickly, but be patient: investigations can take quite some time. If a week or two after we still haven't got back to you then feel free to follow it up.

Hm... I'm still unconvinced, but I will say that I overstepped in calling it totally ludicrous. More than that I'm not commenting on the forum (even this may be too much, but I want to correct myself where I said Fasces had no case in fairness to him).

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: Picard And Sisko Argue Ethics--Ends vs. Means!
We started to have a debate about this in the last topical post, so I thought I'd give it the full attention it deserves, since it IS one of greatest dilemmas in all of ethical thought and conduct. And, luckily enough we have two GREAT advocates for the opposing positions: Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Captain Benjamin Sisko! ;) So, as a fun end of the year discussion, if ends DO justify the means, to what extent, and if they DON'T...then what IS justifiable?
