Cheater alert!
I was flipping through the TV channels last night and I saw a soap opera. That blond chick? She's totally banging the pool boy while her husband is at work - cheating whore!

An Awkward Situation
So Russia went CD and a newbie took the country over. I typed a pretty drawn out discussion of the current political climate and what my next moves were, along with some suggestions about what they could do. When I hit send, it apparently glitched massively, and when I hit the "Global" message tab (thinking it had sent normally), it posted there for everyone to see.

Taking Advantage of an NMR
What do you think of this? I am in plenty of day phase-36 hour phase and 5 minutes before I am logged and I changed my orders so I could snag an SC of someone who's NMR-ed. What are your opinions
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

NMR are unfortunate, but if you don't take advantage of it, someone else will.
diplomat554 (2104 D)

I wouldn't say it's too sportsmanlike acmac, but it happens all the time and that's sort of part of the online game.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
14 Sep 10 UTC
yeah... take advantage of it. People who don't get as much of the pie as you will bitch about it... but that's why NMRs suck.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

If the person NMRing is an ally, they are betraying you by failing to hold up their part of the alliance. So take what you can get and renegotiate with others.

If the person NMRing is not an ally, then take what you can get.

What does NMR stand for anyway?

No Moves Returned.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

I always thought of it as No Moves Received. Either way, it means they didn't turn in any moves, thus helping their enemies and screwing their allies.
acmac10 (120 D(B))

Or helping their enemies and allies :)

I always vote cancel/draw with cds/nmrs. it seems kinda unsporting to take advantage of no opposition -- puts the rest of the players in an unfair position. any victory achieved by taking a ton of undefended scs is a hollow one for me. of course, there's a difference between a cd country that's on it's last legs and will fall within a year anyway and a major player with a lot of clout left. really depends on the specific situation.
yayager (384 D)

It's part of the game, so don't sweat it. If there are 2 more NMRs/CDs in the opening years, then it's sporting to draw or cancel (I advocate drawing, but that's me). Otherwise adjust and move on.
I vote tha it's part of the game. Nations -- even strong ones -- can be subject to domestic upheaval during wartime which can cripple their forces. If someone NMRs, that's usually how I view it.
Whoops, the third word in my post above should read "that", obviously.

Take advantage of them, by all means, but I'd they become critical to the game, I would personally vote cancel. With large CDs I will vote cancel or draw in most cases.

I played a game recently where Turkey NMRd on the first move. We all voted to cancel and restart with a replacement player. It was the right thing to do. But once a game is underway (after the first year for example) then I think its best to play on.

Is it possible to to write a code that automatically cancels a game that has two or more CDs within the first one or two turns?
hopsyturvy (521 D)
15 Sep 10 UTC
That would benefit the CDers more than the remaining players....

The sporting thing to do, if you are one of the Great Powers adjacent to the CD, is to offer a draw. Leave it up for a year or so. If everybody does not accept your gracious offer within the first couple of years, then I feel that you may remove the offer with no loss of face. At this point, your time has been invested sufficiently, and you should play it out.

largeham, then you would never get a game started, when germany or austria or turkey or italy decides they don't like this country and want to try again.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Regarding canceling versus draw, it would seem to be much better to draw. And not so that six people get to split the CDers points.

If it becomes common practice to cancel games when someone CDs, then some people might go CD as a matter of policy when they get a country they don't like figuring the game will most likely get canceled.

So better to make the CDers pay by drawing. The meager points gained is small recompense for the time and effort wasted diploming the first season or two.

Stereotypical Accents Public Press
We had a great game going where people speak (type) in a caricature of a stereotypical accent from your country. Draw germany, talk with a german accent. Lots of fun, but had someone that needed to drop due to what seems to be a valid reason. so, we want to start one up again, and we need two more people!

Draw / cancel with one player in CD
We have had an early CD and everyone is agreed to terminate the game. Can someone confirm the impact of a six way with the 7th country in CD on:
1. ghost Ranking points - is a 6 way draw or a 7 way draw
2. On D points - 6 way draw or a 7 way draw?

So, how many years?
How many years with absolutely no movement anywhere on the board would it take for you to vote draw in a game where you have 16 SCs, and the second place power has 7?

Rules Question?
A game I was in just ended, and there was no retreat phase after autumn. Carthage could have retreated a unit from Chersonesus to Sinope to keep things tied at 17s. Is this correct? Is the game over as soon as the fall turn ends and one player has eighteen centres? I would have thought Carthage would still get to make his retreat.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...
This shouldn't have happened! In this game: gameID=32450, I'm Near-East. I ordered Syria to support move from Saudi Arabia to Iraq. Iran supported Iraq, so it failed. However, India, who occupies Iran and Iraq, ordered Arabian Sea to Saudi Arabia with support from Iraq. Shouldn't Iraq's support have been cut when I attacked it?

NFL vs Barclays Premier Leage
no no this isn't a football against futbol debate. rather a debate on which has the better system on team skill equality. Meaning: teams that do crappy one year being able to get better and do well. So in essence relegation against first draft choice.

What time zones are players in?
I seem to have a really hard time finding live games, and during the World Cup I was never on at the same time as anyone else. Is it that I just somehow seem to miss prime hours, or is my timezone (GMT -8) an unpopular one on this site?
