This is a inter-site tournament, so several sites put forward teams, and the teams pit themselves against each other.

We need to decide on captains for the 2 teams from webdiplomacy.

What happened to all the nominations from the original thread?

We didn't actually have many
In terms of captaincy:
djbent expressed an interest.
Maniac appeared interested.
I was nominated by someone.

How does this work? Is it a series of games, where each game has people from both sites and whoever wins each games gets a point? I'm just kinda confused how the teams thing works.

I'd contribute (play, help, other) if you need.

Why are people shy about this - it should be a lot of fun and somewhat of an honor :)? I'd hope to play, captain sounds excellent, what does it mean exactly, I'd love to be able to pick a team :)

We have to do this fast as my Ghost rating is going to plummet by the end of the month :). If this is the criteria to be used?

I'm all for playing, but would not make a good captain... I think Babak or Jacob would make good captains, as well as Ivo, among others...

Ghost rating fluctuation aside Ivo, I don't think I've come across anyone that has not mentioned your name amongst the most respected. Just make sure whomever is chosen recites Oh Captain, My Captain before each phase:)

i'm interested but promised myself i wouldn't take on any more dip for the moment... and am committed to my league games... really enjoyed the last dipworld cup on stabberfou where i played for Ireland, but we didn't do very well. This seems like an even better way of organising a giant international tournament. Good luck to all concerned.

I think we need someone to step up and either come up with a system/list for picking up players/captains, or at least with a suggestion on what process to use to reach some conclusion.

MM - thanks for the vote of confidence - but with a new job and the move, I dont have time to Captain. I would however like to play in team one IF i can make the cut. if not, I would understand as there are definitely 7 better players than me on this site...

I should say there is a possibility that I might play for the FB dip team too... which would kind of be fun as well ;) but depends if they can get their act together in time.

i'd nominate Jacob, Ivo, and if djbent - then we should find a way to flip a 3 sided coin ;)

i would like to be involved somehow, if it's helpful, i'm not totally sure how just yet. i am at my max for games right now, so if it started anytime in the next month or two i could not play but could support in other ways. not saying people want me on the team, but...

I would support a djbent candidacy. SoW running experience being a big credential here.

As for actually playing, I am playing in too many games as is, but I might apply (as a player) if it goes later. Is it an A team and a B team?

I think that the more important right now is to decide who is available for being captain of the 2 teams (2 teams right?).
From that moment, captains and site mods should "invite" a number of players for the teams based on some criteria.

Captains would be choosen amonst those interested in doing it.

TheGhostmaker would be my 1st choice for captain; not that I know his way of playing (haven't played with him yet) but because of the responsability he seems to assume in everything he does in the site.
I also support djbent, Ivo and Jacob.
Babak would also be a good captain, but he seems not available for it...

So, should we make a deadline for captain candidates to come forward?

I'm always going to have impartiality issues running the tournament, and am going to rule myself out of playing.

However, it would be an honour to be a captain or vice captain that I would find impossible to accept.

I think if Ghost is not playing he should be a Captain of Team 1 for sure.

And, actually, if there's someone else not playing, but of prominent stature :) - or feeling 'qualified' and enthusiastic about the job, maybe they can be second captain?

I would hope to be included as a player and don't see any point in decreasing the overall 'webdip team' size by having active players as captains?

i see the advantage of having a captain to help deal with players who may for whatever reason (cause life gets in the way of our diplomacy sometimes - though giving birth is no excuse!!!) NMR, it's good to have someone in an administrative role, emailing subs, and whatnot.... that does mean they hsould be an active member of the community, but it doesn't mean they need to be a good player :P (and no i'm not volunteering for the role)

Nice of Dipperman to nominate me. I don't know anything about tournaments. Most of the names up here I recognize because I think they all have kicked my ass. I'm open to play. Don't know what a captain does, but probably needs some tournament experience to do the job well. I really am flattered by Dip's reference. I love to play and most of you know my style. Still confused. I'm not even surre I know how to get back here.

Maniac and Polar Bear were nominated, but haven't posted in this thread to confirm that they would be captain, so I think we can rule them out?

Six possibilities for captain. Of those players, djbent, Ivo_, Polar and Jacob all have a very good shout of being in a team.

We need two captains. I reckon an instant run-off vote would be a good way of going about this.
