Why play if you dont play to win?
Message sent was essentially. Hey we can still stop Russia from a solo victory if we team up now.
Message recieved. Sorry am really tired of this game would rather it just end.
Do other peoples games usually end by 1905 every year or what? I mean my favorite part is te end game where the three of four players who ave really worked their tails off, makeing deals and wth perfectly timed stabs are left to fight it out to the end or agree to a draw.

some new jersey school kids are being taught to sing songs praising Obama and his accomplishments. one song which goes to Jesus loves me only replacing Jesus with Obama. is this politically correct? or morally correct?

i watched that. it doesn't seem liek a song or praising bush. seemed more like a prayer for him or something. it was weird

It's just a clip, the whole video is REALLY weird.

These are creepy on so many levels. You have a lot of crazy people in the US, it's actually amazing.

The Sounds of North Korea? When school kids are taught songs praising political leaders you have to question the motivation of the teachers. No matter the political leaning.
DJEcc24 (246 D)
24 Sep 09 UTC
its also influencing the kids. alot of the parents had a big fit

330 million people... you are bound to have a ton of crazys...

look, any society can expect about 20% of its population to be absolutely crazy... or more PC... be on the fringe (hey, even by bell-curve stgandards, you'd expect that deviation from the norm)...

which means, China has about 200 million cazies... wow!
C-K (2037 D)
24 Sep 09 UTC
I wonder what percentage of people on this site are crazy? I bet it's higher than 20 % because after my short time here I'm definitely crazier if not also a bit more dangerous thanks to the manipulative mentality. Maybe I'll run for President of some country and convince everyone to sing songs praising me! I'll use the tune to Iron Man I think. Danananana, Dananananananana!
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

DJEcc24, I'm not sure of songs, but what is essentially political indoctrination certainly happened. I don't have any sources without google's help (you can do that for yourself) because it was a couple of years back when I heard about it.

These sorts of things are always going to happen, and its always very upsetting.
giapeep (100 D)
24 Sep 09 UTC
Only in the United States would this happen.

Gawd I love you people!
Xapi (194 D)
24 Sep 09 UTC
It's happened in Argentina too.

I personally see as one of our better times the Presidency of Juan Domingo Perón, but the books they made for Elementary School and High School students were the most pure example of indoctrination you'll ever see.

Children learned to write with phrases such as "Evita (Perón's wife) me ama. Evita me cuida." (Evita loves me, Evita looks after me).
DJEcc24 (246 D)

well i guess its not a surprise but it is frowned upon
Obama is being praised as a God. I'm pretty sure there are already thousands circumforaneousing religions of him. More so than any other president before. I believe this has been Obama's plan this whole time. He wants to be America's hero. If he improves the economy enough Obamaism will be the hot religion. No joke.
DJEcc24 (246 D)
25 Sep 09 UTC
i think he's still campaigning
Invictus (240 D)

It's a little of both. If he does get a second term I wonder how he'll spend his time.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Sep 09 UTC
He'll spend it trying to revise the constitution so he can get terms limits removed or increased and try for President for life.
Its good to see ridiculous rhetoric works both ways. We spent the last 8 years reading about how George Bush was ignoring the constitution. Now Draugnar has lowered himself to that level.

I live in NJ, so that story got a lot more coverage here than on the national media. And listening to some of the parents who were 'outraged' would have been amusing if it wasn't so sad. Regardless of whether it was wrong, it was stupid that anyone thinks they could teach children that song and not have a problem.

But there was a time when children were taught that there should be respect for the Office of the president, even if you didn't agree with the officeholder. Unfortunately those times are long gone; we now teach our children to disrespect the president (both this one and the last) because they are doing bad things to the country, they are evil, they are communist, whatever ridiculous insult of the day that is on Glenn Beck or Keith Olbermann.
RealityCheque (1735 D)
25 Sep 09 UTC
At least you have politicians that can be considered worthy of praise.

You don't see anyone trying that with Gordon Brown or Tony Blair (thank god)
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Sep 09 UTC
Oh no, Bush was the worst of the bunch. I just don't have faith in any one in office anymore. The days of statesmen are gone. Now the country is run by politicians and everyone of them is looking out for number one.
DJEcc24 (246 D)
25 Sep 09 UTC
i still think we should have respect for presidents whether we agree with them or not. i certainly try to. it is arguably the most stressful job on earth we should respect them for putting up with it.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
25 Sep 09 UTC
You're very right DJEcc24 however...

the right way to do that is not to teach other people's kids a laudatory song about them.

If you want to teach your own kid a song like that, fine, but I still disagree. You should just tell them what the job is like.

Reminds me of an Onion article just after Obama was elected:
"Black Man Given America's Worst Job"

Pantalone (2028 D(S))

Weird - The reason it posed the question, Invictus, is that I wondered if the writer didn't also want to (again...) raise the question of the President's religious background.
I haven't "dug" into this aspect much at all, but with my basic knowledge of the Islamic religion and Arabic names, I wonder if any Kenyan father would name his son with the wholly Arabic names of Barack and Hussain if he didn't wish those names to be an expression of his own religious (in this case Islamic) convictions, which he clearly desired to transfer to his son. The (presumably?) non-islamic (Irish/English-American) mother obviously did not disagree.
So: This president was born a Muslim and the question is when and how he converted to Christianity, something by the way which I believe is punishable by stoning under Islamic religious traditions.
Also, his own academic theses on his ideal political system have been strenuously supressed by him even before the primaries strated.
Conclusion: I do like him, but do not at all trust these "basic data" about him, especially since they are (quite clearly deliberately, of course) shrouded in major fogs of mystery and obfuscation.......
Nothing new here, but as I am not an american citizen or resident, I probably have missed the vast, continuous and deep and serious national discussions over there on these rather interesting themes - or haven't I......??
Invictus (240 D)
30 Sep 09 UTC
He ought to be able to use his middle name without the thread being hijacked into a quasi-Birther, "he's a mooslim" rant.

That's the President's name. I assume he signs it with his middle name on laws. Obama's past is a bit too hazy for my liking, but that issue is not the same thing as using his middle name in passing, and certainly not in quoting another person who didn't mean to bring that issue up at all.

Do we really need seven countries to start a game?
What ever happened to having some civil disorder countries if a game started with less than seven people? My four friends and I played several games together like that (So as not to give ourselves unfair advantages against two outsiders), but now we can't. Is there some option that could be made to allow a game to start without seven people?

Thanks!

metagaming?
say we have player A and player B. they are initally in one game together. player A goes and joins a new game, then player B joins the same game. so now, although it was not player A's fault, any interations between the players carries over to the second game. anything that could be done to prevent this in the future?

Casual #x
I doubt I'm the only one, but I'm not fussed about gaining points, or experimenting with rule variants, etc. It's for this reason I keep creating games with the lowest possible pot, and standard rules.
The new "Casual #x" games follow this trend. They're no different, I just cba to come up with a new name each time.
They are equally competitive, challenging, or fun. I just like games that are accessible to newbies and don't require me to put up an excessive stake.

bug regarding clock/phase rollover
I mentioned my suspicions on this before but it was confirmed last night in the live game I played. Phases are rolling over when they still have 3-4 minutes left on the clock. This can be especially damaging in a live game when time is a precious commodity!!

Are other people getting this? When a game is paused, instead of saying "paused" it says "deadline: now." It's a minor thing, but would probably be good to fix. Thanks!
