GUI improvements
can the My Games section also contain finished games like it used to?
the Search feature is great, but not so great in finding ones own games that were finished.

yes I know you can get there by looking at your own profile, but its just more intuitive via the My Games tab.

Move instead of Support
Say France has fleets in Lon and EngChann, and armies in Pic and Bur. Germany has armies in Bel, Ruhr, and Mun, a fleet in No.Sea. France is trying to capture Bel with Bur-Bel. So basically it's 4 on 3 on France's favor because Mun can't support Bel while Lon (France) can cut off German support from No.Sea. What if instead of supporting, Germany moves No.Sea-Bel, Bel hold, and Ruhr-Bel? That's 3 vs. 3 and no support is cut. Can Germany keep Bel that way?

Hey guys, consider joining the new game I created. ItalyGermanyAustria vs BrtainFrance vs RussiaTurkey. Usually alliances don't last, but I made it only 5 pts so that hopefully winning won't matter, but winning while sticking to the alliance will. It may have been tried before, but oh well.

I think a "Germany may not move on Marseilles in 1901" would suffice enough. France would have to protect Paris and England would shoot for Picardy.

Honestly, you're better than me at coming up with this stuff than I am.

I like your rule suggestions but I think neither Germany or France may move on Burgandy in 1901.
zscheck (2531 D)

are you trying to decide rules of how the game is played now? or are you trying to make your own variant?
Geofram (130 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
Variant, and I'm glad to see you online Zscheck!

Steven, I just played to 1902 with Realpolitik and it's very obvious that Germany should not be allowed into Burgundy. I'm not sure about Italy not being allowed in Munich.

There were definitely some "oh man, if I didn't know everyone's orders, this could get crazy" which is good!

Though I almost fear now that the first year or two would be almost identical for every game.
Geofram (130 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
I'm starting to really like what the possible opening moves with the variant.

Though, what do you think about:
Austria may not move on Rumania in 1901.

Rules List: (revised...again)

Rule #1: You may not move into an ally's supply center without permission of said ally.

Rule #2: England and France may not attack Holland, Belgium, and/or Denmark until Germany gains control of said nations after Autumn 1901.

Rule #3: Neither France nor Germany may move into Burgandy in 1901.

Rule #4: Russia may not move into or contest Sweden from Germany in 1901.

Rule #5: Turkey may not move into Armenia in 1901.

Rule #6: Russia may not move into Black Sea in 1901.

Rule #7: Italy may not move into or attack Munich in 1901.

Rule #8: Austria-Hungary and Turkey may not move into or contest Rumania from Russia until Russia takes control of Rumania.

Rule #9: The winnig side shares equally in the pot.

Hope this one is better.
Geofram (130 D(B))

I think rule 2 needs to be that way, I played another fresh game and it's very possible for Germany to be the weakest power.

I'm not sure Turkey needs to be excluded from Rumania, I mostly didn't like Austria moving there from Budapest in Spring of 1901, it completely shut out Russia in the south.

Play around with the game and see what you think:
http://realpolitik.sourceforge.net/

That's a small program used by judges, mostly in e-mail games. It took me a bit to learn how to do more complicated moves, but the online manual explains it nicely, I can also answer questions.
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
Why have Turkey attack Rumania during the first year? Unless to distract Turkey from Geece I see it shutting Russia down easily.
Geofram (130 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
Because it weakens Austria, it allows more flexibility in what Italy can do, especially when working with Russia. But it also makes Turkey and Austria second guess a move on Greece in the first round, when Austria could instead support Turkey into Rumania. Turkey alone might just bounce Russia out of Rum, unless Russia moved to Ukr and Armenia, and then moves to Ankara and Sev. It's not a certaintity that Turkey will want to move on Rum, especially if Russia is in Armenia. But Austria would almost always move there if allowed.

I actually really want to play this game and will join the one you made, but we need to decide on the rules, even though it's only the first test run, and not change them mid game.
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
You make an excellent point.Ok, I'll agree to not exclude Turkey from Rumania.
Geofram (130 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
My suggested rules for the first test round (if you've joined the game and came looking for the official rules, these are not them, look for StevenC's last post concerning the rules)

No player can move into an ally's occupied supply centre without the express permission from it's owner.

England and France cannot move on Belgium, Holland, or Denmark until Germany has previously or currently controls the province. (I think it might be best to set a deadline for Germany to control them, otherwise he could avoid all but Denmark and ENG/FRA wouldn't have much to do, I think 1903 is good)

Italy may not move on Munich in 1901.
France and Germany may not move on Burgundy in 1901.
Russia may not move on Sweden in 1901.
Russia may not move on Black Sea in 1901.
Turkey may not move on Armenia in 1901.
Austria may not move on Rumania in 1901.

I can't think of anymore that should be included in the first go-around.

If only there was a way to have two global chats, one for each side...
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
That's it, right there. Obviously, Germany only has until Autumn 1902 to control Denmark, Holland, and Belgium.

Agreed?
Geofram (130 D(B))
18 Aug 09 UTC
Yes, 1902 is enough time. I was thinking Spring 1903, but that doesn't even work with the rule because Germany won't "control" them in Spring. 1902 should be enough. The only way for Germany to get all 3 builds in 1901 is if Austria forfeits any of his own builds. But I think that is awesome because it promotes the teamwork required to really excel at this variant.

After playing around with Realpolitik more, I've thought of some very crafty moves.
