We don't generally ban for rudeness, especially not rudeness in-game. Diplomacy is about dealing with people, and people aren't always nice.

What people choose to do ingame is surely their choice?

you have the entirely wrong approach.

when you stab someone and they start insulting you, you know that your stab was effective and that the enemy is not sure how to deal with it

the ruder the language, the better your stab

@akroma - that's not entirely true though - sometimes a stab can be so stupid and disastrous for both sides that there's nothing left to do but explain to the stabber he's a moron.

People don't like it, and it's not very productive, but at least you let some steam off and it's certain the message got across :)

DrOct, he is saying that if Pimpernel behaved this way on Facebook phpDip, they would ban him since they don't allow "crude and rude" talk. But since it is here and we have different rules of etiquette, he is warning us what we are in for if we play with Pimpernel.

I actually have a friend in the game in question and he thinks it's hilarious how bad Pimpernel is. Apparently, the obscenities have reached the global chat of that game.

Thanks for the comments everyone... I am Dargorygel in FB. It is not merely a matter of mild rudeness. He is abrasive, obnoxious, and vulgar. Not just to me. And I am a big boy, I can handle hearing bad words. I would NOT simply ban him. I would WANT to. I would send copies of the trash to some other mods and get their opinion, since I know this is a grey area. MOSTLY I wrote in here to warn people of intelligence to avoid Pimpernel. Secondly, I just wanted to vent. Pimple just went through a series of four or five 'blasts." Writing the same thing over and over till all other information is lost off the top. For a game of communication, that is the epitome of idiocy.

And... I am not suggesting that we 'band folk for bad words' in FB. I am in favor of freedom of speech. I don't want rules and regs that hamper a great game. But I would hope that common decency would be the rule. I even understand effective use of strong language. But that is NOT what this is. I suspect he plays when drunk, actually. And I have played enough diplomacy (and lived enough life) to know that some people are just like that. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. Or condone it.

I would allow in-game context crude chatter. I have no tolerance for personal insults outside-of-game context that are just using the game's communication system to relay those insults.

Picture playing at someone's house. At what point does the behaviour cross from being about what is occuring in the game to "real life" personal conflict? When would that person be asked to leave or forcibly removed from the game and house?

@KaDargo - I meant to mention how much I like your user name. I'm a HUGE Farscape fan and was one of those bemoaning SciFi's stupid move to take it off the air and put on crap like "Tremors: The Series" and those new reality shows they push. What is so SciFi about a reality game show anyhow?

Yeah... I miss it. We have them all recorded and watch periodically. It is time to watch it again, Draugnar!

They are in my Netflix queue along with all of the Highlander series and Lexx. I rotate between the three so we alwyas have a regular movie out (usually one the wife wants) and one from each of the three series.

It's not SciFi anymore. It's SyFy. Sucks. I mourned Farscape for a long time.

Lexx is bizarre. I watched it for a while, just couldn't figure it out...

Forget figuring it out. Watch it on DVD and see the luscious ladies who played Zev/Xev (Eva Habermann and Xenia Seeberg <yummy/yummy>) getting naked. It's relatively tame (i.e. not pr0n) but still hot as it was a late night show on Showtime originally.

And actually, the storylines are quite good once you wrap your head around some of the more bizarre, but important to follow concepts.

@Alderian - I inferred that it was for "rude and crude behavior" as you keep calling it, but it was never explicitly said. All that was said initially was that he'd ban this guy on facebook and to not play with him. I was trying at the time to actually get him to say why. I assumed it was for poor behavior but it hadn't actually been explicitly said at the time, so it seemed like an odd post. Since I can't read the chat from that game, public or private, I had no way of knowing for sure what he was upset about without his saying so.

Ha! I just realized I never actually read the title of the thread, which makes the whole thing a bit more explicit.

I still don't get what Pimpernel did... Either I am dense or it is an inside joke, or it's a cultural thing. Please enlighten us stupid Americans if the latter.

Is there an alternate way to "quote" one of his statements? A ingame bomb is actually a valid tactic. It's kind of like jabbering and droning on, constantly contradicting yourself, until the other player(s) forget what you originally said.

It's also useful if you typed something to the WRONG tab as happens on occassion. You can clear the evidence before the other player(s) see it.
