The bet on dangermouse seems like a pretty sure thing, short of like a solo or two-way draw in his last game.

I'll put 10 down on Xapi hanging on with that solo to win his league, B2.

I'll put another 10 down on Bugger to win C1.

And yet another on Laoban to win C2, which is quite impressive considering he's up against Babak and woooo, and has managed to do phenomenally in his first two games.

That's all the virtual money I have at the moment, though I'd also point out Friendly Sword in C3, gjdip in D1 (DbJ not far behind), bartdogg's success in D2, Troodonte in D3, LanGaidin and lulzworth in D4.

As much as I'd like to bet on myself in B1 (I'm not doing so bad!), my money would be on Ivo.

i bet we see sean accompany dangermouse on the slide down, and see abgemacht and gryncat demoted from league A. hard call on B1, but i think you might make the grade Chrisp, a lot depends on that last game. Xapi definitely takes B2 - but who else will advance with him? and who will be demoted? el perro artero looks like will go down, thewonderllama too, perhaps, and i think centurian or stratagos will advance.

All of you betting on league D1 need to realize that three of the four games are still running and anything can happen. Game 1 was a true cockup with two dropouts (one was replaced, the draw took care of the second) and Captain Dave lucking into a 1SC even share of the draw. gjdip was nice and did the draw when his primary competitor for a solo dropped. Look for different results in 2, 3, and 4...

Oh, and look at D1 - 2, 3, & 4 for one common name consistently in the top three (and leading game 4).

@draugnar - of course we don't know how it will shake out. if we waited until all four games were played, betting wouldn't be much fun, now would it? =P

i think we'll see farmerboy and maniac at the bottom of D1, dingle, captain and draugnar scrapping for the middle range, and i bet ag takes the league, with gjdip right behind.

I'm just saying you shouldn't assume anything at all from game 1 cause it was farked big time with the drop outs. Had we never had a drop out, it would probably have been a four way draw as there was a two vs. two battle going on when the first NMR and drop occured, leaving me gutted because Turkey didn't bounce in MAO when he NMR'd.

I don't think I will be coming out of B. I've really botched things. First I give Xapi a solo and now I've decided to not take Bulgaria in my opening moves as Turkey. There would have to be some serious mistakes on their part for me to get promoted. Xapi will probably get by on the one solo.

The better of destp's positions stays, so if he is promoted from league A, he will be in the Premier League.

Is only true if there are no drop outs... which there have already been. If destp is first or second in B-level, and stays up in A level then all firsts and seconds will get promoted, for instance.

I know we've had two drop outs just in D3 which probably isn't that unexpected for the bottom rung. How many drop outs have there been in the higher level leagues?

So if an extra person from B gets promoted to A, how do you fill the void in B? An extra person from C gets promoted to B and an extra person from D gets promoted to C? Or just one less person from B drop to C? Or just a judgment call on your part at the end of the season based on what makes sense?

These are the four leagues that are totally comprised of players who have played a whole season.

Don't you think placing side bets, stating who you think is doing well, could affect the game? Wouldn't this qualify as not talking about ongoing games? While specific game play is not discussed, the 'game' for the leagues is more than just the single game, but the sum of the four.

Perhaps, not that I think people will be taking notice of it... you might be right though...

any league player who is remotely concerned about their position is already coming to some conclusions (maybe similar, maybe different than expressed in this thread) and weighing them in account in his or her actions. since it's not about one single game, but the sum of all four (or three) and it's about speculation on who will do well overall, not who is going to win a specific game, i don't think this is the same. nonetheless, TGM calls the shots, and if he says it's not cool, we can let this thread die. alternatively, if a number of other players feel like Dingle, speak up and we can let it die as well in that case.

Not really, I just find the phrase funny.

In my own case, I can say I didn't really think about gjdip as a threat to win, because he was a replacement player. I hadn't yet formed any emotions for or against him, because I had no experiences shared with him, because he replaced a player (whom I DID have strong feelings about). Now, based on this post, I realize that even though he is a replacement player, that because the player he replaced was doing pretty good, I DO need to be concerned about him.

Granted, it was an oversight on my part, but I guarantee that not everyone has analyzed the 4 games as a group as concisely as some people will summarize above and below in order to make virtual bets.

Does a replacement player take over the won points of the player he replaced? Thats seems a little strange to me.

@DJ: I picked up a good position in game 1. Game 2 was rubbish.

And three and four are all gjdip, no adopted positions in them. I'm saying nothing else or it might affect the diplomacy in game.
