Question
I can't believe I don't know the answer to this question, but I don't. Here goes:

Enemy Army in Berlin.

I have armies in Kiel, Munich, and Silesia.

Orders are:
A Kie - Ber
A Mun S Kie-Ber
A Sil - Mun

A Ber Hold

Assuming no other interference, the result should be a bounce. Am I correct?

Yes.

No, I think you can't cut your own support.
hellalt (24 D)

kiel moves to berlin since its supported.
silesia cannot move to munich since munich is occupied
silesia doesnt cut support from munich to kie-ber since you cant cut your own support.
you cant attack your own units, dislodge them or cut their support
From the AH rules: "An attack by a country on one of its own units does not cut support." Unless I have your question wrong, that should resolve it. The support isn't cut, so the attack from Kie to Ber succeeds.

I am just curious: why did you want to cut your own support? If you wanted just hit Ber why did you support your unit?
aoe3rules (949 D)

It WOULD have been a bounce if you had supported your enemy's unit holding with A SIL, instead of attacking a supporting unit of yours.
PallasAthena (113 D)

@aoe3rules: Again, why doing that instead of just attacking A Kie - Ber unsupported? ( Is this a noob question?)

Attacking your own support:
There is a tactical technique which I have used and it is very very rare but it goes like this:
You expect the enemy to make a supported attack on your piece (the target). You do not want to move that piece because it is wanted to support something else, further you feel that the potential supporter of the target piece is going to be attacked in turn. so you make a supported attack on your piece which is in itself being used to support a secondary attack else where.
Example:

Germany:
A Kiel to Berlin
A Munich Support A Kiel to Berlin
A Silesia to Munich
A Bohemia support Silesia to Munich

Russia:
A Berlin-Munich
A Warsaw to Silesia
A Burgundy support Berlin to Munich

In this case the attack from Berlin is a 2 on 2 (beleagured Garrison rule) on Munich so Munich is not dislodged. Also Munich's support for the attack ON berlin cannot be cut by Berlin. The Russians hoping to cut Silesia's support for Munich is frustrated as Silesia is the mover on Munich.
Result, Munich is still German, Berlin is dislodged and has to retreat (prussia or off the board) and the Germans are still in Sielsia.

NOTE there are plenty of other units around that give choices on what is going on and it is not just these involved, but their interplay as detailed above is what is important in the concept of the rules and the technique of attacking your own support.

i don't think it's that rare to use this tactic, i use it regularly, and see others do the same.

So I can't cut my own support. Ok. That is good to know. Thank you.
jman777 (407 D)

it is impossible to cut your own support or dislodge your own unit.

@Edi: I just read your post twice to understand it. Please excuse me, but I never want to play against you.

Or maybe I really need to.

Bulding Units
Is it possible to build units even if you not control one of your countries you have from the beginning?
E.g. if russia looses his complete territory but take control of germany, is russia able to build units?

This thread needs a "Sage" function.
For those who don't know, on *ahem* various imageboards I deny visiting, if you want to tell someone their thread is idiotic or that they're idiotic without bumping the thread, you can "sage" it, wherein you say whatever you want and type "sage" as your email address and your post will not bump the thread.

Obviously, we would need a different way of doing that since we have emails tied to accounts, but... yeah. It would be a nice function.

Game: http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=11340

This game has been paused for over two weeks now, because one of the players was banned. We are waiting for two players now to unpause the game.
But since noone seems to care, it's maybe better to delete the game?

Toledo/Ann Arbor Diplomacy Group
Is there anyone in the Toledo, OH / Ann Arbor, MI area, or just further out who would be interested in joining a f2f group that meets once a month? If so reply back to this thread.

We meet usually around once a month, have 4, 5, and 7 player maps, and have a great time. Hope to hear from you!
