Is it possible to build units even if you not control one of your countries you have from the beginning?
E.g. if russia looses his complete territory but take control of germany, is russia able to build units?

This thread needs a "Sage" function.
For those who don't know, on *ahem* various imageboards I deny visiting, if you want to tell someone their thread is idiotic or that they're idiotic without bumping the thread, you can "sage" it, wherein you say whatever you want and type "sage" as your email address and your post will not bump the thread.

Obviously, we would need a different way of doing that since we have emails tied to accounts, but... yeah. It would be a nice function.

Name: We'll Mis You, Professor - game started by Invictus in honor of the late Diplomat1824, also known as Diplofool.

Result: win for Germany (Jerkface) in 1909: Jerkface (18), zscheck (10) and Ursa (6) were left.

FRA: kol1562
GER: Jerkface
ITA: Invictus
RUS: Poseidon
TUR: Ursa

EOG-STATEMENT: TURKEY

As winner of the last 'Tribute to Diplomat1824' game* I coun't resist joining another game in honor of our beloved Professor. It turned out to be a dissapointing and frustrating game.

Being Turkey, I had a safe corner to build upon and in the mean while test the other players. Two of them I didn't really know, one of them being Poseidon, my big neighbour. He had played Russia once before, and well, resulting in a win with much diplomacy (at least, I distilled that from the board). So I contacted him about a possible Juggernauth. In the mean while I agreed with Italy to carve up Austria, promising him the whole of the AH Empire. While we three slowly ate him away in the west things were stirring. England and Germany were teamed up against France, who made some mistakes in early game, resulting in Germany taking Paris in Autumn 1901 (!) and a very quick elimination. With FRA eliminated ENG and GER reigned supreme - but I get ahead of myself.

While having solid progress, growing into six centers by Autumn '02, Russia suddenly tried to stab me - a very strange move which led to his downfall. While still fighting Austria he asked me to support his move to BUD with RUM while at the same time entering BLS as to 'cover up our alliance by pretending to be enemies'. I quicky responded by dislodging RUM and he showed his true purpose by entering an undefended ANK. At this point his fate was sealed by a threatening and now beginning German invasion and me taking SEV.

But having still the shock of Russia betraying me while he was threatened from other sides, now Italy came after me, sneaking into AEG. I tried to convince him to fight the ENG-GER coalition but he wouldn't listen so we fought for the Balkans. I tried to convince England to stab Germany but their alliance was way to lucrative. With Italy still pounding on my defenses and G/E invading his territory, I was getting kind of frustrated. At that point Germany supported ITA into RUM and took VEN at the same time! I asked ITA what he was doing - he didn't do much except easily blocked attacks on me - he told me he logged in from an I-phone so wasn't able to do much.

With ITA being eaten and Russia defeated Germany now pointed his arrows on me, already at sixteen. I feared a 17-17 coalition, so when the last year arrived ITA told me that when GER would support an English move into Greece I would be sure it was a 17-17 attempt. So I took pre-arrangements to let Germany win and block England. To my surprise ENG did want to convoy into GRE but wasn't supported by GER - and GER won by taking Norway - from England! Confused but happy I survived with six centers.

Throughout the game press was little, and diploming didn't help much. Ofcourse, ITA was logging in from his I-phone, which supposedly made him somewhat lazy. I still wonder about some actions of Germany - supporting ITA and sparing me. I'd like to know other's points of view.

Thanks, Ursa. And thanks also for the great report. It's nice to see what was happening on your side.

Unfortunately, as Germany I don't have too many tales to tell. My alliance with England basically lasted all game until the very last move. We were set to have a 17-17 split but I thought taking the victory was so easy, why not?

Sorry it was a disappointing game for you. I can't say it was thrilling for me. But if it were, I'm sure my diplomacy skills, such as they are, would have gotten me eliminated very quickly, as usually happens.

Why would you say I told you I logged in from an iphone? I don't have an iphone.

I did say I was "phoning it in" after I accidentally missed putting in orders once.

Germany really made no sense. He should have won far earlier by continuing to go after England.

EOG statement
Austria isn't my flavor of the month anymore :)
I never really like playing Austria but I have some skill at it since I'm usually better at defensive tactics of scissors and self-stands off.
Anyways my first thought was to Hedgehog right off the bat. Unfornately I changed my mind. Unsurpisingly I was set up from all sides my only hope was to dislodge Italy out of the alliance I wasn't able to. Curiously enough Italy was being killed from the west instead from the east. I struggled on till finally I was killed.

The reason that I didn't go after England earlier was that I knew I didn't have to. Had I gone to war with him, the rest of the board might have teamed up on me.

This game has been paused for over two weeks now, because one of the players was banned. We are waiting for two players now to unpause the game.
But since noone seems to care, it's maybe better to delete the game?

Toledo/Ann Arbor Diplomacy Group
Is there anyone in the Toledo, OH / Ann Arbor, MI area, or just further out who would be interested in joining a f2f group that meets once a month? If so reply back to this thread.

We meet usually around once a month, have 4, 5, and 7 player maps, and have a great time. Hope to hear from you!
