Live Games. What do people think of them?
I have played one live game. And by that I mean 15 minutes turns with the phase set at an hour. I had fun, but it didn't quite work out the way we would have like as three of the players went CD as soon as things didn't go perfectly their way, which I suspect is common problem.
So I think live games are a brilliant idea in principle, but hard to make work. Has anyone had a better experience? Or are there always problems like the kind I experienced?

Best Dr Who ever?
I know this isn;t the season for Dr Who, (though it would be season finale right about now usually!) but as Dr Who has just come on BBC3, it got me wondering what peoplpe thought.

Live game today?
For all of us at-work Diplomaters, what about a live game today?

The crowd from yesterday's failed attempt plus a couple more might do the trick.

The Big Lebowski certainly rules!

'Walter, don't put out a piece on the ally'.

And: last dialogue of Dogville, brilliant.

Memento - the closing speach (end of film, start of story). Do we lie to ourselves etc etc

Yep, got to love Princess Bride (surely the Wine infront of me speach though?) and the Res Dogs scene.

How about 10minutes of the Italian job including "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"?

Or indeed 'that dirty harry speach':
"I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a 44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clear off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?"

Dunno if I will be kicked of this site but a scene I thought very funny:

'Dude, what does mine say?'
'Sweet, what does mine say?'
'Dude. What does mine say?'
'Sweet! What does mine say?'
'Dude! What does mine say?'
'SWEET!! What does mine say?'
'DUDE!! What does mine say?'

--SPOILER ALERT--

I always liked the ending of Usual Suspects. Spacey does such a natural shift from the cerebral palsey walk to a normal walk as we discover he IS Keyser Söze.
^^ Why even post that? It doesn't really add to the discussion?

It was my equivalent of a +1. You could see spoiler alert, read the first sentence, and say "nope, not gonna read further." Since when do posts have to add to the conversation? Does positng "+1 Usual Suspects. Kevin Spacey and Chazz Pamlinteri at the top of their craft." add to the conversation? Not really, but it is jb's right to post it as much as it is my right to post my little supportive post. If you don't like it, form your own MODERATED message board. This is not moderated and, as long as it isn't trolling, the mods have chosen to not set rules or boundaries that need enforcing. Hell, Diplofool only got banned cause he was found out as being a multiaccounter. And the recent group of Jr High brats had some multis. Only thos accounts believed to be part of the multis and who didn't send and email to Fig or chrisp got banned. So anything goes here and you aren't the obersturmfuhrer of the message boards.

I'll post what I want, by the way.
SpellOfWheels, Draugnar's post is (presumably) a direct response to my previous post of "The last 10 minutes or so of the Usual Suspects", which is the scene he is referring to.

Oh...and a big ditto for Princess Bride. I loved the scenes from the boat up until Vizzini dies.

Thanks, Dingle. Yes it was and it fell right after JBAlcorn's +1 for the Usual Suspects.

i'll take the scene in "the shining" when wendy finds out what jack has been writing over the trial scene from "a few good men" every time.
LOL...point taken Draugnar...but if Vizzini lived, then the movie would have been incredibly short!
And I'm not sure you need to give spoiler alerts for movies that are around 15 years old.
well, more for princess bride

This thread got me reading the script...again, so much good dialoge...I picked a small portion for your reading enjoyment...

Want a sausage?

Naw, I don't eat pork.

Are you Jewish?

I ain't Jewish man, I just don't dig on swine.

Why not?

They're filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.

Sausages taste good. Pork chops taste good.

A sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie. I'll never know 'cause even
if it did, I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfucker. Pigs sleep and root in shit. That's a filthy animal. I don't wanna eat nothin' that ain't got enough sense to disregard its own feces.

How about dogs? Dogs eat their own feces.

I don't eat dog either.

Yes, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?

I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy, but they're definitely
dirty. But a dog's got personality. And personality goes
a long way.

So by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he's cease to
be a filthy animal?

We'd have to be talkin' 'bout one motherfuckin' charmin' pig. It'd
have to be the Cary Grant of pigs.

Fastest Game Ever, I Think
If anyone is interested in 8 hours there will be a game with one hour order phases with a buy in of 10 pts. The Name will be "Fastest Game Ever, I Think" I will post the game link in about 8 hours, but only if I get interest from at least 6 people. Please respond! I've never actually done a game like this, but I want to see if a game of Diplomacy can be finished in a day. This takes commitment and skill. Do you have what it takes?

The power of making deals
I'm in a class (Dave Ramsey's "FPU"), and last night our class revolved around getting big deals and the keys to successful negotiation. I knew most of them and the rest made sense. I could make up a situation for all and demonstrate it. The wife asked me "Where'd you learn all that?" From watching the masters of Diplomacy, of course! :D

Rules Question
I thought you were able to convoy an army to attack a costal province with support from an adjacent fleet/army? Ie: Move London to Brest via Convoy. English Chanel convoy London to Brest. Mid Atlantic support London to Brest.
If you can, how do you input this move?
