A game says it paused on my Notices but did not pause
gameID=12152, Acorrding to my Notices:
Plan of peace
Game has been paused. Thu 09 PM
However, the game seems not to have been paused, maybe because of the reset phase times, and Italy has already gone into civil disorder. How is this sort of thing fixed?

Joking of course Jacob. Appreciate your time and comments for the game. Actually, your pro Babak comments probably made my life a lot easier if anything!

So I thought I'd put up my SoW III EOG statement. It's long! Sorry. Thought I'd put it in a new thread.

Thank you all for a great SoW semester... SoW I is also coming to a close (and it is an exciting finish ineed... the first to start, but it seems the last to finish).

to my fellow SoW III players, great game guys... I have plenty to stay and will put it into the EOG thread... it was indeed a very fun game, thank you to all that played... and thanks to Jacob and Cent (and pyro) for the great commentary throughout.

as for the future of SoW - I have to take a sabbatical unfortunately, but I'm sure it can continue for the next semester. In all honesty, SoW depends on the vets... rookies are going to be easy to come by - its the vets that make the games what they are... and we need to be sure we have a stable of solid vets ready and willing to continue and contribute... so recruitment for the next semester should start with Vets I think.

Also - graduates CAN and should consider starting an 'advanced' course... that is 7 'rookie-graduates' of the SoW I-IV series... just make sure to find 2-3 vets to commentate first...

As for my graduate course suggestion - its very hard to pull off - and you truly need 7 vets willing to commit to 'tutor' the 7 players... so maybe put that on the shelf for now...

so here is what I'm recommending...

1st - Create a new thread "Recruiting vets for 2nd Year of SoW"... try to geet 9-10 vets to respond and committ.

2nd - After the vets are lined up, create an "SoW application thread" so newbies can apply - I'd suggest some parameters (finished 3 games, # of msgs per game minimum etc). for 2 new SoW games you need 10 rookies and 4 vets (from the previous thread) + 4 more vets for commenting.

3rd. The current graduates can create a new "Advanced SoW Course" with 7 'survivors or drawers' in fact the commenting can be done by other graduates or by vets...

also - to those graduates who want to see this SoW concept continue - its on YOUR shoulders to recruit some vets. by now you have some in-game relationships with other vets on the site right? msg them in game or PM them and convince them why this is such a good idea. YOUR testimony as to how YOUR game improved will be a BIG influence on them... b/c most vets want to see more rookies learn to play well and to be engaged in the site. so I think its on your shoulders to recruit top vets on the site to help out --- even if its to play or comment in ONE game ;)

enough for now - will be back this weekend.

So, now that all 4 SoW games are finished, who might be interested in a SoW Season 1 Grand Final!?

Basically just an excuse to get some players together for a challenging game. There would be no need for commentary (unless we want commentary and can get a volunteer).

It would be great if we could get the top 7 finalists in a game together, which would be Jacob (the only winner) and the top drawers I guess.

Not sure exactly how to rate the other finalists, but I guess the players from games 1 and 3 would be next in line since these were both 3 way draws.

So that would be:

Jacob
gjdip
Biddis
Chrispminis
OMGNSO
Babak
texasdeluxe

If we can't get all 7 then we can grab some of the finalists from SoW 4 (which was a 6 way draw).

Just had a great time playing in SoW 3 so thought I'd find out if there was any interest while we wait for the new SoW semester.

So... Anyone?

I'm a vet willing to help out. I tried to stop Jacob from winning in SoW2, but failed. Let me know if you need a vet.

thanks for posting texas, and fortknox. i was going to post some thoughts for new SoW games today. i think it would be better to do the "post-grad" game with no vets, and start one or two new SoW games with new "students" and either new or the same "teachers".

before we start new SoW games though we need to line up some new commentators, and i also need to finish transferring stuff over to the blog. i guess we can do both simultaneously.

Also: I vote (if votes are even needed) djbent to be our new Dean.

I thought Babak asked Jacob to do it, and I would be happy if he did it, but I don't know if anything has been finalized.

@FS aka poortercannon - well, i was already dean of treacherous loyalty. with dean babak taking a sabbatical, i have taken on his duties as well, though we do still seek someone else to help run the School of War.

@ Pete U - fantastic. I'll make a new admissions building post soon. glad to have you still on faculty =)

Sounds cool. I knew that some sort of post-grad SoW game and a new semester was on its way at some point. My suggestion for a grand final game wasn't actually meant as any sort of substitute for this. Just thought I'd put it out there to see if there was any interest in a side game with some of the participants that did well in the first 4 games (and hopefully an opportunity for me to get some more game practice with good players of course...)

I'm pretty much limiting my game joining nowadays to league/TMG Masters and any other games that pop up that catch my eye. Trying to avoid games with high chance of CD...

So my offer still stands (along side regular SoW).

I'll send out invites to the 7 I mentioned and see if there is any interest. I won't be heart broken if I can't organise it, but worth a try.

Well, if TD's plan falls through - or if anyone else is interested - I'm down for a rookies and mids post-grad game.
BigZombieDude (1188 D)
22 Aug 09 UTC
I would be happy to play, commentate or organise. I was in SOW IV after a taking over a fairly rubbish position and has subsequently helped my game out just being part of the process, so id be happy to be a part of the School of War however it turned out.

I like the idea of the 'post- grad' games...
spyman (424 D(G))

I would play a post-grad game, but I would prefer it be slow - 60 to 72 hours. (Might be a bit too slow for most).

I think my plan has fallen through (for an unofficial SoW Grand Final), but I'm sure there will still be official post-grad games organised.

If I was the person who caused that final exam to fall through then it was because I was on holiday so we can try again.

So, I was wondering...
I'm supporting my fleet with two of my armies to a territory.
The enemy support-holds his army in the aforementioned territory with only one army. Normally, I would win. However, if he attacks one of my supporting armies that are in adjacent territories - does he manage to defend himself? A hasty reply would be good.
Thanx in advance!

The green dots telling you that someone is currently logged on
I might be wrong about this but I have the feeling that those green dots also show up sometimes although the person is not online.
Just had that in one of my games where there was a dot after the French, that was then gone some minutes afterwards. Still it says: last logged on some hours ago.

Just starting on PHP, though I've played on FB a bit. On FB, if you update but do not Finalize, the updates go through as your moves. Is that the case here?
Looking forward to this site. Hope to see a lot less people bailing on games early.
