Draw?
How exactly do the points get divided between players if they agree a Draw? Equally or pro-rata according to their number of SC's at the time?
And is this different in a Winner Takes All game compared to a Points per Supply Center game? Would love to hear Game Master's views on this.

Newbs picking up CDs
Is it just me, or does it seem that a lot of newbs come in and pick up a pile of really bad CD positions, lose them all and get annoyed with the game?

Newbie Question
Hi, diplomacy virgin I'm afraid and a situation occured that I could do with clarification on.. I launched a supported attack that was unfortunately blocked. I find myself unable to move this turn around, the game server saying that I have no units to move this turn. Is this normal when an attack is blocked, that you cannot use those units next turn and what other circumstances can cause this loss of turn situation ? Thanks - Darren

Longest Game Ever?
I'm in a game which has reached 1924 and doesn't look like ending particularly soon, and it got me wondering - which is the longest game that anyone's taken part in? Surely there must be some that went on even longer? [http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7513]

Best Beatles Album and Song
discuss inside
Jacob (2466 D)

I am a huge Beatles fan and have been ever since I was a small child. I like pretty much everything, early and late. The only album that I don't particularly care for is their first American record.

My favorite album is Revolver, although Abbey Road comes in a close second.

My favorite song has been I'm Only Sleeping, but I think that may be changing now. I also like Everybody's God Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey, but only if you listen to all the songs before it first.
Jacob (2466 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
All I can say about the Monkey Song is Ringo on cowbell....yes! =)

Finally a thread I can relate with. The Beatles are my favorite band. I've performed some of their stuff :P
I'd have to say Abby Road is definitly up there, as well as White Album.
As for best song, well that isn't easy. There are too many.
Jacob (2466 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
I think you have to approach it more as which song you are most in the mood for - because basically every single album is like a greatest hits album =)
Jacob (2466 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
And just to clarify, Abbey Road really only becomes great on side B. Side A is good mostly because you are anticipating side B!
wooooo (926 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
Heh. Isn't Come Together the second song on that album? But yeah Golden Slumbers/Carry that Weight/The End steals the show there.
Jacob (2466 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
That's true, side A does start out with Come Together and then the even better "Something". Something was the B side to the Come Together single release. The Beatles and Elvis are the only two artists to ever have both sides of single release hit #1 on the charts.

Elvis did it three times though....

Abbey Road and Revolver... and can't pick a single song... would have a hard time picking top 30 songs...
Sgt. Pepper gets honorable mention... imagine how classic that album would have been with Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever also on it (that was the original intention - they were recorded during those sessions - but George Martin pressured the Beatles to cough up those two songs for a single pressing... and per the rules of the day, they couldn't appear on a LP for a year... and thus were delayed until Magical Mystery Tour...)... so, Sgt. Pepper as originally recorded would be my favorite - as it is, it still comes in pretty close behind Revolver and Abbey Road.

Early Beatles, rather than late, for me.

Hard Days Night definitely gets the nod over Help (although Help is the better movie!!)

I just recently heard the song I Me Mine from the album Let It Be, and... I think I love it. Aside from that, I absolutely adore the song Lady Madonna.

I'm not going to try to choose between Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper. I do agree with previous posters that side B of Abbey Road is magnificent, and I really like the Revolver album as well.

As for songs... they're so many widely different ones... I've always liked Penny Lane as a beautiful sweet song, but depending on my mood I might prefer the more rocky songs.
What has always struck me as interesting was the way I could never recall hearing the Beatles 'big' songs the first time. It's like I always knew them.

I guess that's why when I'd listen to an album and hear a lesser known song it always got me (I tip my hat to the person who mentioned I'm Only Sleeping on Revolver).

I'd have to go for one from left field and say Don't Pass Me By from The White Album. When the drummers writing songs like that you know you're on to something special.

Rubber Soul
Hey Jude always puts a lump in my throat. I think about Paul McCartney writing a song for Julian Lennon saying that it's OK that his father is getting remarried and to let his new stepmom into his heart. Having divorced parents myself, the song really chokes me up.

dipper don...early Beatles?? i dont know a lot about he Beatles true but i always thought the earlier stuff was pretty cheesy and thankfully they matured and moved to a much higher level with their later stuff.

Helter Skelter is probably my favourite Beatles song.

It's Only Love is great too.
lulzworth (366 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
@Jacob - Nonsense. Help! is maybe the best album, and though at times I've liked Hard Day's Night more, you always gotta come back to the truth.
lulzworth (366 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
And sean, its either that or they started off as good performers and musicians of classic and classic-rock inspired material of their own, and then became god-awful hippies and produced thoughtless crap like the White Album (see: Road, Why Don't We Do It In)
Jacob (2466 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
I have to say that there are definitely songs on Help! that I love also. You've got to Hid Your Love Away is awesome.
Jacob (2466 D)
27 Feb 09 UTC
One of the things that I love about the Beatles is that there is always an album you can play that will fit your mood perfectly.

If you're feeling heartbroken and angry then you can't go wrong with the second disc of the White Album.
Confused and bitter: Let It Be
Happy-go-lucky: Past Masters 1 (or the rock'n'roll record)
In the mood to sing your guts out: White album 1
Feeling Great: Sgt Pepper's or Revolver
In Love: Hard Day's Night
Sad: Help or Abbey Road

Rubber Soul, With the Beatles, and Please Please Me don't get played much by me anymore. But even those albums have their time =)

Abbey Road! Then probably Revolver.

It's SO hard to pick a favourite song. I might have to go with Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End. That counts as one right? =)
