This game has been paused for two days straight now due to Blackheath Wanderer's banning, and he has no supply centres left. Not to mention everyone has finalized their orders, and the only person left to vote to unpause has not logged on since Tuesday morning. Please help us!

Question re Convoys
I'm a bit new at the rule functions on here. How does the convoy work? Do I need to use a fleet and an army? Does it count as one or two units when attacking? How far can it go?

Deployment Toolkit from Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Since the site seems to work perfectly well without it there seems no reason to allow it to run, except for the annoying warning every time I change page.

Another technical question
Sorry if this is a bad place to post this. I couldn't find an answer to this in the rule book.
Can one order a unit to support hold a unit which is ordered to move but is expected to stand off and remain in the province?

a possible error?

In my orders I supported a german army from warsaw - moscow.
The support was cut (this was no problem here) however the map didn't represent the fact that the order was actually ordered!

Ghost Fleet - Disbanded fleet bug?
I disbanded a Fleet in Spain, yet in Spring 1905 the map still displays the fleet as being there. While I appreciate the cleverness of my forces in building mock units to discourage my enemies attacks, surely this is some sort of program bug? I've noticed this in some other games I've played, too.

Convoying Question
So I was thinking about Convoys. Something I don't do very often, but probably should use more often. A question popped into my head, and I'm asking the community to be sure I'm right about how they work.
DrOct (219 D(B))

So I know a convoy won't fail unless one of the convoying fleets is dislodged (not simply attacked). I'm a little unclear though, on whether another fleet can us a hold support on a fleet to keep it from being dislodged by a fleet attacking with support.
Ok, here is a hastily put together example.

So, lets say Power A has a Fleet in the Tyrrhenian Sea and wants to convoy a unit into Tunis from Naples. However, Tunis is occupied by A Fleet from Power B. So Power A supports the move to Tunis from Naples with his other fleet in the Western Mediterranean.

Power B wishing to stop this from happening attacks the Fleet in the Tyrrhenian with is other fleet in the Ionian Sea, and supports the attack with his fleet in Tunis.

Power A, also has a fleet in the Gulf of Lyons which supports a hold on The Fleet in the Tyrrhanian.

Does this prevent it from being dislodged? (I assume yes, but just want to be sure).

You can support a hold on a convoying fleet just like you can support a hold on an army that is supporting a move right?

Do things change at all if the fleet at Tunis (which is the target of the convoy) does the attacking with support from the Ionian Sea?

Not sure if this is really a good example, but hopefully it get's the point across.

Let's ignore for the moment that the fleet in the Ionian Sea could simply support a hold at Tunis to prevent the convoyed army from getting there. As I said it may not be the best example, really I'm just trying to find out about hold supports and convoying fleets.

Right, Tyrhennian Sea is not dislodged because it is attacked by two units, and defended by two.

This then means that the convoy goes ahead, and there is a battle in Tunis. This battle is won by the convoying army on a 2 v 1 basis.

If the attack on the Tyrhennian sea is attacked by Tunis instead, I that shouldn't matter, If I recall correctly.

If without the convoy, the convoy route would be damaged (ie a fleet dislodged) then the convoy does not happen.
DrOct (219 D(B))
21 Oct 08 UTC
@TheGhostmaker I understand that a fleet being dislodged ends the convoy, my question is about whether or not another fleet can use a "support hold" on the convoying fleet to prevent it from being dislodged. I assume that it can, but want to be sure.
DrOct (219 D(B))

And I want to be sure that if the place being convoyed too attacks the convoying fleet, but fails to dislodge it, that the convoyed army still makes it there (assuming there is sufficient support for the move into that territory).
DrOct (219 D(B))
21 Oct 08 UTC
My example was perhaps unnecessary, and not a good example to start with, so hopefully it doesn't confuse people too much.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

1. A fleet can use any means to avoid being dislodged, including "support hold".
2. The army still makes it there even if there is an attack from the location being convoyed to.
DrOct (219 D(B))

@TheGhostmaker - Cool. That's what I thought, but wanted to be sure. As I sais, convoys are something I've only rarely done, and usually not in more complicated situations, so hopefully I can start using them a bit better now.

I've decided that all of you are multi-accounters bound to the single purpose of fooling me. To fix this, I propose a mass ban of every player except for me and Kestasjk.

Opening Moves
Countries often have the choice of opening aggressively against their neighbour or playing it more neutral with more options but less early expansion opportunity. What is the better strategy?

Ex. Turkey opening to Armenia or not.

ESCALATION /When you don't have 7 players and a learning method.
I invented this in January 1966 after I could not get 7 players together to play my Christmas Present. Throughout January my best friend and I played it just about every day. It was the best tactical learning tool as well as a solution to the problem of 7.
