This is the situation:
An attack is launched from an enemy in Sweden into My Denmark.
My Denmark is supporting My fleet at Hel which is moving into the enemy at Kiel.
Considering no other armies are involved, the outcome would be Denmark support move get canceled and will be changed to "hold", because the attack move from sweden. After that, the attack on Kiel will end in a tie.
But..... Let's say we add another army, mine, in Norway. This army then attacks Sweden. What happens?
1) Since Sweden can't take over Denmark, so it stays in Sweden. Then, because being attacked by Norway it changes it's move to "hold", and tie with norway. After that, The support from Denmark is renewed, and Hel win against Kiel.
2) Sweden stays in Sweden and holds against Norway, but still cancels Denmark support move.
Which is correct? 1 or 2?
BTW, sorry for not linking to the actual game, that is because it's a theoretical question, Since this scenario is not explained in the "help"...
Thanks a lot for helping me, Wolfyboy
Your scenario 2 would be correct.....
This is because moves are processed first. So Sweden's attempted move to Den goes through, fails, and the army then defends against your A Nor.
If scenario 1 was the outcome, what would happen if you were, say, Italy in the opening turn, playing F Nap->Ion, A Rom->Ven and A Ven->Pied?
Your A Ven would have it's move changed to 'hold' because it was attacked by Rome, and then wouldn't move into the vacant Piedmont.
I've probably not explained it too well, but do you understand why it would be scenario 2?
Scenario two is correct. After the enemy moves out, you can move in, but the move-out was canceled as a result of a standoff, and you do not have enough power to dislodge that unit from Sweden. So first Sweden moved to Denmark, which was one on one standoff, so nobody moved. Then the Norway army comes in and there is again a one on one standoff, and nothing happens again. So the result would be that your attack on Kiel failed, and nothing happened to your enemies. What you should do is attack Norway with Denmark supporting, and have Hel support hold at Denmark so the enemy in Kiel does not cut the support.
This is another hypothetical scenario, and i think it's mentioned in one of the rulebooks for the Diplomacy board game:
relevent units are RUSSIAN A LIV, MOS, WAR, and GERMAN F BAL, A PRU, SIL, GAL.
ignore the F BAL for now.
A SIL is attacking WAR, supported by PRU and GAL. the hold at WAR is supported by A LIV and A MOS. this is a three-on-three bounce. however, if Germany orders F BAL - LIV, that would cut the support for A WAR and it would be forced to retreat.
HOWEVER...
if Russia orders A LIV - PRU it will cut the support for the attack on warsaw, AND YOU CAN'T STOP AN ATTACKING UNIT BY ATTACKING IT, so it would succeed, and the attack on warsaw would fail.
that's all you need to know, but i'm going to add a note:
Germany could get around this by ordering A PRU - WAR. then it would move into warsaw and A LIV would move into prussia because it was ordered there.
i hope that helped a little more.
