Re : Taiwan, China and Hitler, Nazi. The relation is that they are both controversial topics, and most people have relatively strong opinions about the issues. They are quite sensitive, especially Taiwan, since it's not as one-sided as a Hitler discussion is. Still, both have the power to instigate anger and emotion.
Re : Communism
Tuco, the mere fact that you come from Manhattan makes me think you might be a tad biased. I personally do not endorse Communism, but I am ethnic Chinese. Born and raised in Toronto, my parents had conflicting views on communism, a big part because my Dad comes from a poor family, whereas my Mom came from a rich landowning family, which is a big no-no during a communist revolution.
The idea behind communism does have the sense of "in a communist society there would be both no restrictions on personal liberties and no need for them". Communism is not evil, it has good intentions, it more an argument of it's feasibility. Firstly, you would need incredible control, with no outside non-communist states, because that would ruin the social stability. As well, it depends on human nature being non-exploitative, which may not always be the case, depending on what you believe.
Just because one cannot imagine that a communist state could be a good thing, does not mean it can't be. Obviously I, personally, would not do well in a communist state, because I have been raised to strive ambitiously, and to aim for riches. :D
But enough of this, like Taiwan, communism is also a touchy subject.
