Nepal Earthquake
The media isn't exactly all over this one like they were in Haiti or after the tsunami in Japan, so I imagine some people haven't heard. 7.8 magnitude quake overnight, a number of significant aftershocks since.

Poetry
So guys (or gals), ever done the Poet/Poem/Stanza? It works like this: Favourite poet, your favourite poem of theirs, the best stanza from that poem. Let's go! I'll start:

Pablo Neruda/If You Forget Me

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

Forgive me for reverting to the purported original intent of the thread.

I heard upon his dry dung heap
That man cry out who cannot sleep:
‘If God is God He is not good,
If God is good He is not God;
Take the even, take the odd,
I would not sleep here if I could
Except for the little green leaves in the wood
And the wind on the water.’

The Village Blacksmith by Longfellow
______________________________

Under a spreading chestnut-tree
The village smithy stands;
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.
I don't ever dream
About you and me
I don't ever make up stuff about us
That would be classed as insanity
I don't ever drive by your house to see if you're in
I don't even have an opinion
On that tramp that you're still seeing
I don't know your timetable
I don't know your face off by heart
But I must admit
That there is still a part of me
That thinks we might get on
That we could get on
That we should get on

In Memory of W. B. Yeats

W. H. Auden, 1907 - 1973

I

He disappeared in the dead of winter:
The brooks were frozen, the airports almost deserted,
And snow disfigured the public statues;
The mercury sank in the mouth of the dying day.
What instruments we have agree
The day of his death was a dark cold day.

Far from his illness
The wolves ran on through the evergreen forests,
The peasant river was untempted by the fashionable quays;
By mourning tongues
The death of the poet was kept from his poems.

But for him it was his last afternoon as himself,
An afternoon of nurses and rumours;
The provinces of his body revolted,
The squares of his mind were empty,
Silence invaded the suburbs,
The current of his feeling failed; he became his admirers.

Now he is scattered among a hundred cities
And wholly given over to unfamiliar affections,
To find his happiness in another kind of wood
And be punished under a foreign code of conscience.
The words of a dead man
Are modified in the guts of the living.

But in the importance and noise of to-morrow
When the brokers are roaring like beasts on the floor of the
Bourse,
And the poor have the sufferings to which they are fairly
accustomed,
And each in the cell of himself is almost convinced of his
freedom,
A few thousand will think of this day
As one thinks of a day when one did something slightly unusual.

What instruments we have agree
The day of his death was a dark cold day.

II

You were silly like us; your gift survived it all:
The parish of rich women, physical decay,
Yourself. Mad Ireland hurt you into poetry.
Now Ireland has her madness and her weather still,
For poetry makes nothing happen: it survives
In the valley of its making where executives
Would never want to tamper, flows on south
From ranches of isolation and the busy griefs,
Raw towns that we believe and die in; it survives,
A way of happening, a mouth.

III

Earth, receive an honoured guest:
William Yeats is laid to rest.
Let the Irish vessel lie
Emptied of its poetry.

In the nightmare of the dark
All the dogs of Europe bark,
And the living nations wait,
Each sequestered in its hate;

Intellectual disgrace
Stares from every human face,
And the seas of pity lie
Locked and frozen in each eye.

Follow, poet, follow right
To the bottom of the night,
With your unconstraining voice
Still persuade us to rejoice;

With the farming of a verse
Make a vineyard of the curse,
Sing of human unsuccess
In a rapture of distress;

In the deserts of the heart
Let the healing fountain start,
In the prison of his days
Teach the free man how to praise.

I suppose I'll have to revise my theory that the average WebDipper is in middle school. I'm touched by some of these posts. And maybe even enlightened a little. If that's still possible.

My entry this morning is the poet William McGonagall of Dundee; a man who, in his own words, discovered he was a poet (I'm resisting very hard right now) with such wonderful lines as "Some of them are blue and some of them are green":

"Beautiful city of Glasgow, I now conclude my muse,
And to write in praise of thee my pen does not refuse;
And, without fear of contradiction, I will venture to say
You are the second grandest city in Scotland at the present day!"

He never refused his middle age 'discovery', finding that it was quite easy to churn out rubbish like this. He was bad enough that at one point the civic leaders of Dundee banned him from declaiming in public!

Letter from Anna

Herr Doktor Freud,
Don't be annoyed.

It must be clear,
I'm electrafied

It was early last September, as near as I remember
I was walking down the street in drunken pride
When I fell into the gutter, thinking thoughts I dare not utter
And a pig came up and lay down by me side

As I lay there in that gutter thinking thoughts I dare not utter
A fair young maid came by and she did say...
You can tell a man who boozes by the company he chooses
And at that the pig got up and walked away...
And the pig got up and slowly walked away...

This is the grave of Mike O'Shay
Who died maintaining his right of way,
His right was good, his will was strong,
But he's still as dead as if he'd been wrong.

A useful favourite to learn for a biker!

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool.
They lay. They rotted. They turned

Around occasionally.

Bits of flesh dropped off them from

Time to time.

And sank into the pool's mire.

They also smelt a great deal.

Is it normal to abbreviate things?
I sometimes say "Time to TCB it" for taking care of business. Or "ED" for energy drinks. Back in the Blackberry days I would talk about "RIM". Am I a geek for talking about how I have a case of ED or how I desperately wanted a RIM job?

Sadly, one out of 10 webdippers is born with a red x and there's currently no cure. I have, therefore, established The Redex Foundation--a division of The Red Cross--to find and eradicate this disease. We are currently looking for volunteers to put together awareness flyers and make buttons.

E Six Sigma -- Crap or just a terribly organized scam?
I was curious about the scam that was posted recently, and, being inquisitive as to the kind of idiot that posts these things thinking they'll produce gullible clients by posting on forums for games composed of highly logical thinkers, I went to the website to learn more. I'm confused, though because I can't tell if it's just a crappy work program or a horribly organized scam.
