Missing a turn without NMRing/CDing
In one of the games I'm in, France has not moved at all since the beginning (it's Spring 1902 now), but he hasn't NMRed or CDed, and so we can't cancel. Any idea what's going on?

House game 3/08 near Boston
I'm hosting a house game this coming Sunday (3/08) in Waltham MA, and would love a few more players. I actually already have one full board confirmed plus a couple extras, so I'm looking for 5-6 more people to make it a two-board event.

This is part of my effort to create a strong Boston community of Dippers, so all ages, skill-levels, and amounts FtF experience are welcome. Contact me if you're interested, either here or (preferably) at [email protected].

Diplomacy with WMD's
every country begins with 1 WMD(can only be used after 1902 build phase) every other year would be an automatic WMD for countries larger than 7 centers. (this way no nuclear war in 1901, or 1902). A WMD would annihilate all forces enemy or friendly in a given location and if it is a center render it neutral and impassable for 1 year. what would this add to the game?

I thought it would be interesting to see MAD employed in diplomacy.

Games are now created. gameID=156303 and just add numbers from there (sorry guys, I tried to time it to get an even 156300).

Passwords are March themed. I'll hand them out this weekend, but feel free to guess in the meantime.

Pure Gunboat aftermath thread
http://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=22169
I decided to draw this since I got 3 SPs and everyone voted for a draw, I'll count these as a concede voting. Thought on the variant and the game itself?
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
04 Mar 15 UTC
I would not have voted draw in your situation. Being on 3SCs in that variant without anyone else being on 3 usually means the win in that variant (hence why I voted draw).

GGWP anyhow! It was a very interesting game and went on for quite a lot longer than most of the Pure gunboats I've seen. I thought I had lost in '07 since two players getting to two usually means one of them will win, but I got extremely lucky in '08 and managed to get to 2. I'm a little annoyed I didn't manage to guess where you were going in '09 - if I had I would likely have solo'd :)

Assuming a win and then accepting the draw vote is nonsense.

That game ended as a draw, and one shouldn't interpret as anything other than that. "Counting it" as a concession is ridiculous.

How does this variant work?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Mar 15 UTC
Lots of fun! Would have like to play longer but my guesses were all missing and with one center, I didn't want to draw attention by being the only one not to vote. Surprised it ended, tbh. And let's be clear: it wasn't a concession.

Will post more later.

Um... I don't think France is supposed to do well, guys.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
04 Mar 15 UTC
It was certainly a different game. It's hard to get cooperation going with no press and so many options for moves/supports. So I feel like the early game can last a long time before someone gets taken out--as it did in our game.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

OK so who was Italy and why didn't you accept any of my supports to Turkey? I just wanted to Lepanto!
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Mar 15 UTC
So, going in to this game, I had two thoughts on how to do well:

1) Use the name of the countries to metagame, ie Russia and Turkey would be a Jugg, maybe there would be a WT, Italy and Austria should Lepanto etc.

2) Help someone out in the hopes they repay the favor the next turn.

Basically both those plans went to shit immediately. No one seemed to be following the meta and every time I helped someone, they never repaid the favor.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
04 Mar 15 UTC
I feel it would have been a much better experience as it was a life game. 1, there's no way you need more than a couple minutes to decide your moves anyways. 2, what everyone just moved and supported would be fresh in my mind, whereas right now I had to look up the orders every time and remind myself what the hell was going on this game.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

I don't think Italy will be explaining his reasoning here...

@trip - Pure is a Build-Anywhere variant (every SC counts as a HSC for all players) in which there are 7 players, 7 SCs and no other territories. All SCs are connected to every other SC.

Other than that, the rules are exactly the same as standard dip.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Mar 15 UTC
Can you imagine if you could only build in your home center?
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
04 Mar 15 UTC
Yes, because any variant that does anything else but home-center only building is shit

@captainmeme @yebellz meh, I needed to quit that game since I am out of time to play these games for some time, and I would have continued but then the last Draw vote came in and I thought others had lost interest on playing the game to the last move. I count that as a win in my book ;)
Ramsu (100 D)
05 Mar 15 UTC
But I got lucky in Autumn, 1906 when Russia "repaid" the favour I gave him. This is what the variant boils down to, luck. But it was fun, would play again when I can.

Actually, I think we should credit captmeme with the win. Clearly, everyone who voted for the draw did so with the intent of conceding to captmeme's obvious dominance.
