I'm not bothered, except for the fact that you ruined a perfect thread for making fun of Apple. As I said, I'm happy with the choices I make and I don't make them to impress you, so it doesn't bother me when they don't. Just seems odd that of all the things, this is what you get most upset about.

@bo: Thanks, but it seems my smartphone is incompatible (I may have gone for a bit too cheap :P) so never mind I suppose.. Still good to hold in mind that the net costs may turn out to be quite a bit less than initially thought, though.

@abge: Thanks! That's just the states though, right? I suppose I would be a little crazy studying in the states while studying is so much cheaper around here..

Were we making fun of Apple? I thought we were making fun of people buying stuff from Apple, this watch in particular! Apple is brilliant. Annoyingly so, but still brilliant.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
10 Mar 15 UTC
Oh, I thought you were looking at US schools. US schools are very good, but affordable ones aren't going to be any better than European ones. The quality to price ratio of European schhols is amazing, so I would take advantage of that if you can.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
10 Mar 15 UTC
I mean, you're right. Apple took $100 worth of electronics and maybe $1000 worth of gold and is selling it for $10k. They're going to make a fortune, like they do with most of their products. Let's stick to making for of people that spend hundreds of dollars on a watch that doesn't make a through an entire day.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
10 Mar 15 UTC
Well I don't want to rule anything out, just see what's best, then figure out whether it's affordable etc... As for the study, I fell in love with University College/Liberal Arts and Sciences-stuff with a technical focus. I guess I really just want to know what options there are that would match that wish. There's probably not a lot of what I'm looking for around, I just want to make sure I found all options.

That includes options in the USA, but not just there.

So anyway, if someone knows of such a study, anywhere.. Let me know!

Did you switch to mobile for that last message, abge? :-)
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))
10 Mar 15 UTC
Brilliant, really? Is it brilliant to spend 10K on a gold watch that will be technologically obsolete in a year or two?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
10 Mar 15 UTC
No I've been on mobile this whole time.

What is it you're looking to study? I didn't really understand from the above

@2nd

Its brilliant to sell something for $10k when it costs 1/10 of that and you know people will buy it.

@abge: In Twente I found ATLAS (Technology and Liberal Arts&Sciences). I understand many definitions are a little hard to explain to Americans, even though it concerns an international study..
So let me try to explain what it's about:
It's a 'variant' of Liberal Arts&Sciences a.k.a. University College. It's for students far above average, eager to learn about all kinds of thing. In a sense, you "choose not to choose": rather than choosing just one discipline, you study a variety of topics. It's for those ambitious and wanting to make a difference, focusing on technical and social solutions to societal problems, with lots of project and quite some room of choice for personal development and such.
It's also student-centered rather than teacher-centered.

Does that make it sort of clear?
ssorenn (0 DX)
10 Mar 15 UTC
+1 Abge, that's how tech and most other things are sold. If you buying it, it's almost always already obsolete.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
10 Mar 15 UTC
Yes I think I understand
In the Us, these are probably called independent study or build your own major.

There are certainly some good things to be said about these degrees. You run the risk, though, especially in technical fields, of not having a degree that others in the field recognize.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
10 Mar 15 UTC
Also, I would be careful about being sucked in to things advertised to those who are "ambitious and want to make a difference, etc". In my experience, this is usually used when something feels like they need to justify their existence. Good programs will have a reputation without needing to pat themselves on the back and truly exceptional people will do great things, even if they go to a normal school.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
10 Mar 15 UTC
I believe they are somewhat prestigious in the Netherlands at least, and in Twente they allow you to do every major they offer. They certainly don't allow anyone to do that study, anyway.

That said, I hear you and that's something I'm considering too. If I do get a major, I doubt it will be a problem though.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
10 Mar 15 UTC
I should clarify that the majority of bachelors in the Netherlands just require you to have finished the right level of high school.education and maybe having had specific subjects.

Diplomacy with WMD's
every country begins with 1 WMD(can only be used after 1902 build phase) every other year would be an automatic WMD for countries larger than 7 centers. (this way no nuclear war in 1901, or 1902). A WMD would annihilate all forces enemy or friendly in a given location and if it is a center render it neutral and impassable for 1 year. what would this add to the game?

I thought it would be interesting to see MAD employed in diplomacy.
