As some of you may know, I'm currently very busy, working 2 jobs and moving apartments. This makes it hard for me to watch over every thread on the Forum. The natural solution to this would be to hire more Forum mods, but we have tried this in the past and it didn't work out so well.
We would like to keep this a free and open Forum and one of the things we preach most often is "self moderation". These are not just empty words, but policy we actually believe in. In fact, this self moderation was the main driving force behind this new policy change.
Instead of having one or two mods doing all the Forum moderation, I would like to crowd source it to the whole community. How? If you see a post that you don't think is representative of the community, post it here along with the user who originally posted it. If others agree that post is unsavory, they should +1 it (finally giving an official use to those +1's kestas implemented).
Every day, I will read over this one thread and if I see a post that has significant +1's, I'll know the community demands justice. Because the search feature on this site is broken, it's important people don't make up quotes from other people, as that would just give me more work to do.
The following are rough milestones that I'll use:
10 +1's: Warning
25 +1's: 24 hour Silence
50 +1's: 1 week Silence
It is my sincere hope that we can put the policy of self-moderation into practical use through this new method.
Thanks for your help!
