Old school over-the-ear and roller-blades should solve your problem.

The trick is to run your dog instead of walking him/her. Works for me.

I always run slower when listening to music anyway but if you want to just wrap the headphones around your ear and then put them in.

The noise from your footsteps is often a problem with headphones. Recently I found a pair of inner-ear headphones that does not have this problem.

Over the ear with a hard band that goes around the back of the head. If you position them just right you don't get that annoying thud thud sound that one often gets from running. I think somehow because the headphone makes contact with your head, from over the ears, round the back of the head, that this somehow dissipates the noise that would otherwise be carried to your ear-drums.

These are not headphones for audiophiles, but they do the job.

Over-the-ear headphones are much better anyway. Sound quality is so much better. And the music I write sounds like shit in earbuds... o_O

Over the ear all the way. I like the Plantronics .Audio 600 line. Padded strap on top kee vibratory noose to a minimum. Also, I have a pretty good Bluetooth set that really keep the noose of the lawnmower out when I'm out riding around doing whatever in the lawn or the field out back despite the thuds of bouncing over rabbit holes and tree roots (the field is a pear and apple orchard). I could get their name and model if you want blue tooth capability.

I incorrectly referred to the headphones that I suggested as over-the-ear, I mean inner-ear buds. They have hooks that go over the ear.

I've addressed the issue by getting a pair of hook-onto-the-ear Sony "sport" style headphones. I had those until I accidentally destroyed them earlier this year. I guess I now know *why* they're called "sport" headphones, I hadn't realized avoiding footstep thunder was an attribute they needed to have! They sound OK. Anyway the earbuds are still good for the train so it's not a total loss.
