Bismarck, sublety, nuance, diplomacy
Was Otto von Bismarck's foreign policy brilliantly subtle and nuanced, or dangerously unstable and fragile?

I've played the trial and love it but I don't want to be alone. Was wondering if anyone played it here.

Standard WTA 36 hour phase Game
So after a live game tonight ( gameID=130059 ) - some of us decided to go for a full length game as we quite enjoyed it.

The two early quitters obviously weren't invited. Not sure if two of the other five of us want to join or not.

How do you report evidence of eating?
I was in a restaurant today and two people walked in within one minute of each other. They proceeded to order, wait for their food, and then chew erratically. Needless to say, one of them finished before me.

How do you report evidence of cheating?
I was in a game today (gameID=130191) in which the users playing both Russia and Austria played extremely erratically. Both users created accounts this afternoon, within one minute of each other. Needless to say, Turkey won. Seems to be clear evidence of cheating using multiple accounts. How can I report this?

To Train Up A Child
Heard of this book? Its methods evidently have led to the deaths of 3 children, one which recently led to a conviction of the two parents involved. Should it be banned? Should the ministry which profits off it be shut down?

Date Night for Putin
It seems that our dear friend Putin is...well...a curmodgeon. I feel bad for the dude, really, and I think it's 'cause he can't get a date. So this is the Putin Needs a Date advise thread. Here's my first offering...a garment that might help with...well...one of his problems...

How do I get a day of the week or a month named after me?
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc are so last year and they, together with the names of the months have religious overtones, so I wanted to update them a little but don't know where to apply. Can anyone help?

What to do when you are Ally Locked?
So I'm playing this game (one of my current 9), where I am completely surrounded by GOOD allies. People I have talked into turning their backs to me and leaving their pants down. It would be impossible to advance in any direction without violating a DMZ or 100% backstabbing someone.
Thegatso (234 D(B))
20 Nov 13 UTC

Yes, I know there are times and places to stab people in the back and it is an excellent tool in the olde game of diplomacy, but in this particular situation, I don't necessary want to start a war with any of these countries for fear of their easy ability to rally allies due to my betrayal, and still yet do not want to sit idly by.

The game is ongoing, so I can not really go into any more detail than that, but do any of you badass veterans have any experience with this? Is it a good idea to just hold a year? My instincts tell me no.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)

Backstab whichever of them you can make the most gains from, the quickest. Do not wait, especially now you've posted on the forum. What if one of your GOOD allies sees this thread and even if it's an anon game so they can't be sure it's you, gets worried?

Go for the stab, right now.

First: don't talk about ongoing games but my advice is just keep one boder

You can talk to your allies about plans for the future, and inevitably one of them will suggest you attack the other. Boom, now you are just a good ally to the person who suggested the attack.

So I'm not discussing this ongoing game, but more the general principle of what happens when you're surrounded by allies and want to expand.

What does it mean that everybody is your friend? Apparently, the price of being your friend is still too low given the high demand; they are all still able to pay it. Now, you increase the price of doing business and the penalty for not paying it is that you invade them.

For example: spring 1901, I play France and I have a comfortable alliance with England or Germany and all other players on the board want to be my friend, but I haven't talked to Italy yet.

Now, I set an incredibly high price on partnership with Italy. I usually claim Tunis and tell him to leave me alone. This will have one of two effects: Italy realizes that he has to go for Greece as everybody else is with me and I get Tunis: expansion creating animosity, but not an enemy. Another option is that Italy will find that price ridiculously high to pay and shouts at you and invades you. Obviously, you gave Austria a tip that Italy moves south west and Austria will take Venice, while you focus on E/G, whichever one you weren't allied with.

How nice! We are still not talking about an ongoing game.
Is it faire to the other players?

As long as it's not a gunboat/limited press game talking about it on the forum isn't breaking any rules.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

Isn't the rule: "don't discuss ongoing games on the forum"?

jmo1121109 (3812 D)

No

"3. Don't work around game messaging/press rules.
If you enter a game with limited press/messaging (such as global-only) then you can't use other methods such as email or PM to bypass this.

If you are playing in a gunboat (no press/anon game) do not post anything about your game in the forum and refrain from posting in any threads you feel might be referencing your game.

Using the Pause or Cancel buttons as signals to other players is violating the press rules. For example, voting pause to signal the desire for a smaller draw is not allowed. If you need a pause in a gunboat game contact the moderators (see below for the contact details) and explain why.

Posting in the forum about an ongoing gunboat (no press) game is not allowed for anyone. This includes offering advice to game participants or predicting the outcome of a game. All questions about a gunboat game must wait until the game is completed."
taos (281 D)
23 Nov 13 UTC
So: public press ok,full press ok.
Only gunboat?
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
23 Nov 13 UTC
public press is iffy, if anyone else in the game complained the team would have to make a ruling. full press is ok.
