Bismarck, sublety, nuance, diplomacy
Was Otto von Bismarck's foreign policy brilliantly subtle and nuanced, or dangerously unstable and fragile?

Does anyone here play Eve online?
I've played the trial and love it but I don't want to be alone. Was wondering if anyone played it here.

Standard WTA 36 hour phase Game
So after a live game tonight ( gameID=130059 ) - some of us decided to go for a full length game as we quite enjoyed it.

The two early quitters obviously weren't invited. Not sure if two of the other five of us want to join or not.

How do you report evidence of eating?
I was in a restaurant today and two people walked in within one minute of each other. They proceeded to order, wait for their food, and then chew erratically. Needless to say, one of them finished before me.

How do you report evidence of cheating?
I was in a game today (gameID=130191) in which the users playing both Russia and Austria played extremely erratically. Both users created accounts this afternoon, within one minute of each other. Needless to say, Turkey won. Seems to be clear evidence of cheating using multiple accounts. How can I report this?

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special (SPOILERIFIC INSIDE)
So, yeah.
What did everyone think? Best parts, worst parts, love it, hate it...

I have one part in particular I'm pleased about...

TOM BAKER RETURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Oh, that made my day at the end!

Great to see him again, whether he was the 4th Doctor (I'll count him as such, he kept dropping hints it seemed only the Doctor would know, and it's just more fun that way) or a curator who looks remarkably like Tom Baker...

GREAT to see him in the special!

Also loved the parts with Tennant and Queen Elizabeth (and now we know why she was pissed at him in "The Shakespeare Code"...see how all fun things trace back to Shakespeare...and Tom Baker?) :D

Apparently no one else cared, though, lol, oh well...

That ending shot was nice, with all the Doctors together.

I hated it, because I couldn't watch Atlantis as usual :(

There are people who still watch Atlantis?!? That show is truly awful! It's Merlin but without the charm that makes you overlook the massive plot holes. They even use the same bloody caves.

Dr Who was good, although I think having him not press the big button was an error. The whole 'make the planet vanish and the enemy shoot each other" lark is stretching it a bit, and is the sort of thing you should only see in cartoons.

"Bringing in Billie piper was good, but no Amy pond??"

Feh, I had more than enough of her the first time around...not a fan of the Ponds or River Song...the whole pre-Clara era for the 11th Doctor is one big deluge of convoluted stories and irritating characterization so far as I'm concerned.

"4th doctor? Hasn't numbering changed now john hurt has played doctor no1"

He didn't, he played the War Doctor, after McGann and he regenerates into Eccelston, so either it goes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 War Doc 9 10 11 or, if there is a change, it'd be to Doctors 9-forward...so the 4th Doctor is still the 4th Doctor no matter what.

It really WAS a stretch, Octavious...for the sake of silly Doctor Who science, I'll buy that all the Doctors can somehow make the planet pop into another dimension/place and out of harm's way (though it seems like that'd have solved a dozen or so other crises in the past) but I have to think the Daleks must have better aim and sense than Yosemite Sam if they're a threat to the universe...they just end up blowing each other up?

Probably the weakest part of the special, but if it means the Doctor didn't kill billions of people and Gallifrey comes back (I like the politics of the place in the old series...at least blowing up Vulcan in the new Star Trek films had weight and was done by someone who's SUPPOSED to be the villain) I can roll with it given the rest of the good things in the special...especially since it meant a cameo from Tom Baker (and I guess some are arguing if he's the 4th Doctor or just a Curator that looks a lot like him...I say he's 4 out of time, why not, they hint at it but stop short of coming out and blatantly saying it, so they're clearly trying to have a nice fan moment without starting a continuity war...and since other actors came back to play the role again when they were far older and had already regenerated...sure...he's just a super-old 4th Doctor retiring before he magically gets younger again or whatever...he probably needed a 100 year break from Adric or something...so yeah.)

And I only saw the previews for it before and after the show...

But that Atlantis show looked silly.

Only things that bugged me
1) Aforementioned Looney Toons shooting logic.
2) How does an UI unlock a time lock? Or display future happenings?
Others I can deal with with the general cheesynes(?) of the show. 8/10, did not see that twist coming.
For those who haven't seen it, here's a link to a six minute BBC "minisode" where Paul McGann regenerates into (a surprisingly young looking) John Hurt - "The War Doctor". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U3jrS-uhuo

To Train Up A Child
Heard of this book? Its methods evidently have led to the deaths of 3 children, one which recently led to a conviction of the two parents involved. Should it be banned? Should the ministry which profits off it be shut down?

Date Night for Putin
It seems that our dear friend Putin is...well...a curmodgeon. I feel bad for the dude, really, and I think it's 'cause he can't get a date. So this is the Putin Needs a Date advise thread. Here's my first offering...a garment that might help with...well...one of his problems...

How do I get a day of the week or a month named after me?
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc are so last year and they, together with the names of the months have religious overtones, so I wanted to update them a little but don't know where to apply. Can anyone help?

What to do when you are Ally Locked?
So I'm playing this game (one of my current 9), where I am completely surrounded by GOOD allies. People I have talked into turning their backs to me and leaving their pants down. It would be impossible to advance in any direction without violating a DMZ or 100% backstabbing someone.
