Real life mute function

Wouldn't it be great if there was a mute function in REAL LIFE?

Like, if I could choose not to hear any "news" story or generally any mention whatsoever of Miley Cyrus. That would be great.

Adblock blocks some adverts, yes. Sadly it doesn't block fatuous "news" stories about pointless "celebrities"...

@jamie, that depends where you go for your news, none of tue friends/organisations i follow on twitter mention miley cyrus, i also get news from reddit and to a certain extent facebook (thoug i'm not a big fan...) certain youtube channels are good aswell.

Basically opt-in systems now let you pick what you want to hear (and suffer from selection bias) while ignoring everything else...

No, it is a social network, and even offline i get news from friends, sometimes that is personal, other times it is exciting world news... Other times it is about Justin Beiber (or Jedward, but then i know people who went to school with Jedward, and apparently they were annoying even before they became famous)

Despite this, there are a number of facebook pages which serve interest groups, and often post news. I believe a majority of my facebook feed is from these groups rather than friends... 'i fucking love science' and 'science is a verb' are two of my prefered sci-news sources.

And this is of course a problem with using facebook, or any other 'free choice' - of couse even with main-stream media sources (like Fox/CNNMBC? You know, Things Jamie might agree are 'news sources') are heavily selective in how/what they report.

Friend makig account

If a friend of mine, who also lives close to me, makes a webdip account, would it find out we are so close, and say we are cheating? Would be able to be in the same game, as long as we were not talking outside the game about it, and it was anon so we didn't know who each other were.
