I am not trying to ruin your friendship with anyone. I hope you and slypups and TrPrado are able to get together for a malted at the soda fountain.

But we will see where Italy decides to build, and everyone participating in this game, and everyone who is just a witness on the outside knows that a build in Venice is an attack against me. Any attempt to explain that move away as diplomatically friendly would be met with derision. Because such an explanation would be preposterous.

Make it a great day.
TrPrado (461 D)

There's more evidence to suggest you're ready to attack us than ally with us. Why should we believe you?
TrPrado (461 D)

That was at Manwe.

Thanks. I was confused for a second, checking the time stamps.

I already requested that Russia build in the South.
jengamaster (2132 D)
29 Aug 17 UTC
I understand that. But, assuming you are Germany, I was just thinking that a build on the NC does not hurt you, it only slows England's growth, and that might be something that interested you. I thought perhaps you might be receptive to other possibilities/opportunities.
ghug (5068 D(B))
29 Aug 17 UTC
I think Russia either needs to work with Austria to combat IT or combat AIT on his own right now. A northern build isn't especially conducive to either of those goals, and it crowds the northern seas, slowing my eventual world conquest and subsequent domination.
slypups (1889 D)
29 Aug 17 UTC
Jenga = #fakecountry. Please don't bother trying to disrupt my game, they can see through you.
That said, I do concur with my shadow-ego jenga that an army in Venice would be troubling.
Ogion (3882 D)

Well southern build isn't in the cards unless Moscow counts as south.

Italy, sticking with the I hate jenga agenda. Frustrating.

Russia I am being assaulted from the west; what would it take to prevent you from moving to Galicia? I am not w/o things to offer.

England, are you conceding the North Sea to Germany? Bold.
ghug (5068 D(B))

Ok, Germany is pretty set. Remember that later when we interact later, whoever you are.

I'm actually Turkey.

@Italy - Just want you to know the fleet build is going to head north. I just couldn't build in Brest.

I don't want to disrupt the interesting spot you are in.
Manwe Sulimo (325 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
I hope so Tom. If you try to make the foolish move of sneaking a center from me, god help you cause I will ensure my own destruction to take you down with me. Russia, Turkey, it's open season in Austria's eastern centers. First come first served, free admission, while supplies last.
TrPrado (461 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
I love how there's literally not a chance in hell Manwe is Italy.
ghug (5068 D(B))
30 Aug 17 UTC
Do you know that because you are? Cause you sure as hell ain't Turkey.
Ogion (3882 D)

I'll need support into aromania this turn, Austria. You get support into Bulgaria after that
Ogion (3882 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
England, don't get any ideas about St P. They won't work
ghug (5068 D(B))
30 Aug 17 UTC
Lol, as if that would work.

Austria, you need to send your fleet at Italy if you want to effectively stop the bleeding, which leaves you unable to effectively contest the Balkans beyond holding what you have. I've got two fleets and an enemy in Russia, so I'm unable to effectively contest the Balkans beyond holding what I have. I'll be in Bla this turn, which should leave me able to take Rum in the fall, if you wanted to support me there in the Spring instead, it would be an excellent show of good faith. Another build for me would head straight at Italy, as the crusher has left him vulnerable in the seas, and that would be enough to push him back, which would in turn open you up to taking both his centers and Russia's. No need to confirm any support now, obviously. Don't want to draw Russian ire. Just consider it.

England/Germany: Scandinavia is yours if you want it. I suggest you take it.
jengamaster (2132 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
ghug, I must commend you on your flawless transition from Germany to Turkey. Well executed.
jengamaster (2132 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
Person claiming to be Russia, would you accept supporting the fleet in Sev into Rum?
jengamaster (2132 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
I must say the easiest build for whoever Italy is probably involves supporting into Munich. But I would not wish such misfortune on my German friend and neighbor.
ghug (5068 D(B))
30 Aug 17 UTC
Jenga, you'll recall that I repeatedly advocated against Italian aggression against you. Seeing you work with Russia would be disappointing.
jengamaster (2132 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
In diplomacy things frequently stray from ideal. I am of the opinion that dying is the most disappointing outcome. So I might make the occasional outreach to try to avoid that. I hope that you can understand.
TrPrado (461 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
jenga:

If you speed up the Russian attack on me, then it speeds up the possibility of Russia turning on you. The same cannot be said of the reverse.
TrPrado (461 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
To clairify: If Russia receives Rum, then he has the capability to march on the two countries around the same time, whereas the Turkisj position would require a more full neutralization of Russia to attack Austria.
jengamaster (2132 D)
30 Aug 17 UTC
With a fleet in Rum? How would that fleet march on me? Look I am in somewhat desperate straights, and I would be happy to work with you. But you must concede that a fleet in Rum is much less threatening than either of you having an army there.

@Germany(whoever you are) Can I count on you to move to Belgium? I will support you to Sweden in return.
ghug (5068 D(B))
30 Aug 17 UTC
Jenga, there's one Turkish army in the Balkans. Putting it in Rumania doesn't bring another in. It does get you an ally with fleets, which is rather important for you right now, and it ties up as many as six Russian and Turkish units doing nothing, which is great for you from a border security standpoint.

Unless most other Diplomacy maps, Empire4 is not very balanced and a few nations have severe disadvantages that make it very difficult for them to win while others are fairly overpowered. I can explain more if someone wants to ask.

Rival/hatred game variant
I'd like to play a game mode where each player is secretly given a unique rival (so no two players share a rival), and the only players counted at the end of the draw are those who have both survived and eliminated their rival. A solo doesn't need to eliminate their rival and rivals aren't necessarily symmetrical.

Unknown Player in Anonymous Private Game
I'm completely new to Diplomacy and this website. I made a private game and explained to my friends how to join my private match. Though only 2 people say they've joined, I have 3 anonymous players other than myself registered. Is it possible one of them joined twice? I know by the time stamps that it was one of the first two players who joined the game, the times are only a minute apart, and I am wondering if the small time frame is just a player joining twice.

Vale Hugh Hefner
Hugh Hefner dies at age 91. A controversial character, extremely successful businessman, championed some Liberal causes, gay rights, marriage equality, Native American rights, gave many authors a break, eg Alex Haley, but also it has to be said, contributed to the objectification of women and exploited women for financial gain.

[Suggestion] Alternate winning conditions
vDiplomacy has a way to set up "alternate winning conditions", e.g. to customize how many turns are played and/or how many SCs need to be conquered before a winner is declared. For example, we can have a game of Classic running for 14 turns (Fall 1907).

FFS WHY?
Why does online Diplomacy give me Germany to start with in every single game I sign up for?
Seriously, does it use region-based IP-checking? Because I'd really like to try out different countries and strategies.
And no, taking over Leavers doesn't count because you always get a losing position way past the point of getting a proper strategy rolled out (that's why the original player threw the game)
