That's what we could get:
1) We can have tournaments. The fixed game duration means that we *always* know when a game will end, immensely helping tournament moderators and making following games much easier. Perhaps we can make our own WDC-style tourney here?
2) It balances the game. Italy and Austria can have a ton of trouble getting 18, Turkey and England have to go a long way to cross the Main Stalemate Line, etc, but under a time limit (like 1907, for some reason year most used by tournaments) their natural disadvantages are strongly reduced. After all, a skilled diplomat who manages to maintain the balance of power across the board can reach ~12 centers (thus "topping" the table) far more easily than having to break through the heart of the board and get 18, regardless of the power played!
3) It's much more dynamic. Unusual alliances that would hardly exist due to natural mid-endgame border tension, like Italy-Turkey, are as good as any since both powers can have a reasonable shot at victory without ever backstabbing the other. You also need to work hard diplomatically to ensure that the board is kept as balanced as possible, so that no one can threaten your leardership when the final year comes kicking in.
4) It has been approved by ABC himself. Though somehow lost in recent rulebooks, the original ones had the provision for a "Short Game". It provided for a fixed end year, to be chosen by the players, and the player with the most pieces on the board would be considered the victor.
Since vDip has the code already, can it be implemented here as well?
