I'm not a Calvinist, but what Calvin said is not quite that appalling, and I figure he deserves a fair shot.

It's more like this: none of us are really nice, and we all belong in Hell. But God chooses to save some of us from Hell for reasons that are beyond our capacity to understand. If you're not one of the people who gets saved from Hell, it's a bummer for you, but you're still only getting what you deserve so you don't have anything to complain about.

and hence the reason I answered as I did: I don't buy it, but there's nothing that isn't internally inconsistent about it, so if that's what you want to believe, more power. Getting into debates about faith is a pretty useless way to spend time, as "faith" is not something that is subject to logical analysis - by definition.

Don't rob a bank. Banks, Gas Stations, etc. expect robberies. Go for a restaurants. They always have tons of cash, but don't expect it. : )

Get rich quick schemes don't work. Bank robberies do, but not after a day's planning.

I always wandered what would have happened if instead of studying in University one took a few years to really plan a bank robbery... No college loans either.

Have to keep it in mind for when I have kids :)

@ava - there is no guaranteed way to make $10K on short notice that does not involve risk - either high stakes gambling, day trading, or the aformentioned Grand Larceny.

The best way to get $10K is to get an education and a high paying job. I mean, seriously, do you think if i knew a way to make $10K at the drop of a hat I'd be rotting in this hotel room right now?

but I would say that Calvin definitely does have some issues to work out with the eternal reprobation thing.

Well, the Lutheran view as Luther taught it in the small catechism is that Christ enters into the bread and the wine as you partake of the Eucharist. The term for this is consubstantiation, although Luther never actually used that term.
