Tom did not do what any France would do. He insisted on a move to Burgundy. I'd agree that giving him treachery points for it is questionable though.

Tom, thank you for at least being honest about moving Paris in. Negotiations went poorly last turn, so I was somewhat expecting you to support yourself, and I figured even if you didn't, we'd have a better shot and fixing things. I'll either be covering Munich or involving myself in the Belgium fight, and I'd prefer not to say which at this point for obvious reasons.

England, I appreciate the gesture, and look forward to working with you more closely in the future.

Italy, poor choice, though with Turkey attacking Russia, it's slightly more acceptable.

Turkey, I'm so glad you're smarter than Prado.

Russia, Sweden is yours, but I'd appreciate a southern build.

Hey, guys. I'm Austria. Sorry for not speaking up here before now. I haven't had time to post anything, so I could only play this as a gunboat.

Italy, I will support myself to Trieste, so you're better off just taking Munich.

Russia, I'd appreciate if you focus on the menace from the south. You have nothing to gain from attacking me right now.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Sorry for the scare, Austria, I just wanted to give Russia a bit of a false security.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
I also wanted ghug to think I'm incompetent.
leon1122 (190 D)

You gave no scare at all. I didn't even notice this thread until today. I would be glad to ally either of you once the Italian situation is cleared.

Wait, you are Turkey right? I only skimmed over this thread.

@Russia, I am the real England and I hope we can stay neutral in the north.

@Ghug, your welcome!

Yes, leon. Hopefully Italy clears up pretty soon. I look forward to the opportunity of making the fight in the East less troublesome.
Ogion (3882 D)

Southern build it is, although it's unclear whether Sevastopol will be open.
Manwe Sulimo (325 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Ok, all jokes aside, I'm actually Italy. You know this to be true because no one else has claimed to be Italy as of yet. I don't know who the real Austria is, but you have nothing to be concerned about. My opening was to get an army over there to help you against what seemed to be a sure juggernaut and to cover myself in Venice. Turkey's opening was interesting... I will still be sending that army to aid you though because it does name no good to idle my units in my homeland. Tom, we're cool. Ghug, Munich is safe, if I went for it I'd surely lose it the very next year. I don't like wasting my time on fruitless ventures.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
28 Aug 17 UTC
ghug isn't even playing. He's just trying to make me lose because he thinks I'm more handsome than him.

I also like the classic, "I moved toward you to protect you" line Manwe...classic. In any case, I've got to defend against the Englishman this turn. Real GER - I hope we can work together on this. ENG is best kept in the corner.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
That doesn't seem to be a very anti-Juggernaut move, more of one intending to capitalize on one.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Unless you mean you'll be using those armies to trace around the outline of Austria and fight Russia instead. That would be welcome.
Manwe Sulimo (325 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
That was exactly what I meant Prado. How else could I aid Austria in stopping the jug?Fleets by sea for Turkey and armies by land for Russia. Although, I see now those fleets aren't as necessary with you aiding us in the fight against Russia.
Fluminator (1500 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Please give advice to me. I have no idea what I'm doing.
leon1122 (190 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Yeah, somehow I'm not convinced, Manwe. I'm still supporting myself to Trieste.
jengamaster (2132 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
If you are indeed Italy, which who knows, you picked an opening that suggests attacking Austria first and foremost. The idea that you want us to believe that it is an anti-Juggernaut start is bamboozling. Please note that I will defend my borders at all costs.

Turkey I am happy that you wish to bury the hatchet. Declaring your intent to attack before Spring 01 was disconcerting. Make it a great day.

Turkey and Russia I imagine neither of you would be so bold as to ask for my assistance with support into and open empty supply center. But if you wish to make an argument as to why I should, I am always willing to listen.

Make it a great day.
jengamaster (2132 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Oh and ghug, feel free to add the condition that Sweden is yours but don't attack jengamaster even if you build to the south. I think that would be an excellent addendum. :)
ubercacher16 (283 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
That comment by Manwe Sulimo was completely absurd.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))

You opening to Wales was absurd.
jengamaster (2132 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Are we sure uber is England? Manwe claimed to be England on the previous page. But whoever it is, the Wales opening is could just be the start of the double convoy to Norway. The year one double convoy is a sign of strength and virility.

And I have no desire to pile on against France (or Tom), but Italy feel free to move your army in Venice to Piedmont. It would really make me feel less threatened.
KalelChase (1494 D(G))
28 Aug 17 UTC
I suggest that France supports Italy into Munich.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
28 Aug 17 UTC
My beef is not with GER, its with ENG. I'd only even entertain the idea of supporting Italy into Munich if I was 100% sure GER was coming my way. Which right now I do not believe.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
jenga:
I wouldn't argue to receive support anywhere this phase. I would much rather see you using whatever you can to keep Russia from gaining, though I do recognize that's hindered a bit right now.
ubercacher16 (283 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
Ghug? Help?
Manwe Sulimo (325 D)
28 Aug 17 UTC
It's going to be so funny when I don't attack Triest because I'm trying to ally with Austria and he moves back there anyway letting Turkey and Russia get into a position to royally screw him over. I can only be so straightforward and open, if nobody wants to listen I can't help it. Remember this post guys

Unless most other Diplomacy maps, Empire4 is not very balanced and a few nations have severe disadvantages that make it very difficult for them to win while others are fairly overpowered. I can explain more if someone wants to ask.

Rival/hatred game variant
I'd like to play a game mode where each player is secretly given a unique rival (so no two players share a rival), and the only players counted at the end of the draw are those who have both survived and eliminated their rival. A solo doesn't need to eliminate their rival and rivals aren't necessarily symmetrical.

Unknown Player in Anonymous Private Game
I'm completely new to Diplomacy and this website. I made a private game and explained to my friends how to join my private match. Though only 2 people say they've joined, I have 3 anonymous players other than myself registered. Is it possible one of them joined twice? I know by the time stamps that it was one of the first two players who joined the game, the times are only a minute apart, and I am wondering if the small time frame is just a player joining twice.

Vale Hugh Hefner
Hugh Hefner dies at age 91. A controversial character, extremely successful businessman, championed some Liberal causes, gay rights, marriage equality, Native American rights, gave many authors a break, eg Alex Haley, but also it has to be said, contributed to the objectification of women and exploited women for financial gain.

[Suggestion] Alternate winning conditions
vDiplomacy has a way to set up "alternate winning conditions", e.g. to customize how many turns are played and/or how many SCs need to be conquered before a winner is declared. For example, we can have a game of Classic running for 14 turns (Fall 1907).

FFS WHY?
Why does online Diplomacy give me Germany to start with in every single game I sign up for?
Seriously, does it use region-based IP-checking? Because I'd really like to try out different countries and strategies.
And no, taking over Leavers doesn't count because you always get a losing position way past the point of getting a proper strategy rolled out (that's why the original player threw the game)
