Feminism, Authoritarianism and Gender
I hesitate to post this, but i wonder where discussion will lead...
Is Gender socially constructed? Is there a difference between gender identity and gender expression? What other issues does this raise?

Why'd You Choose Your Username?
It's a decision we all make, and one we have to life with for the rest of our time on this site; choosing a username. Some choose their own name, their initials, a historical figure or even a reference to a movie or TV show. So I ask all of you, just why did you choose that username you have?

In case you don't know; Ireland is having a marriage equality referendum today. Yes will mean marriage between gay couples becomes a reality, a No will deny them their fundamental human rights.

Caught you. I'd vote Chaqa but we can't lynch anyone.
Squigs44 (273 D)
05 May 15 UTC
@DO - By posting a lot of volume with little content (AKA fluff), scum can appear to be active and not lurking while pushing the town in the wrong direction. A townie will post only things that are helpful (or funny), whereas scum will post anything that derails conversation, or will add to a conversation that is going down the wrong track. Mafia would love to get a lot of positive attention now, when they are hard to pick out.
Yoyoyozo (65 D)

##Unvote
Squigs44 (273 D)

@ghug -
"I'd vote Chaqa but we can't lynch anyone."

Are you saying you want a day 1 no lynch??
mrh308 (197 D)
05 May 15 UTC
Yeah he already voted no lynch. Explain yourself ghug.
uclabb (589 D)
05 May 15 UTC
So nobody can explain to me why the bodyguard would visit people?
mrh308 (197 D)
05 May 15 UTC
Nope. Most of the "town roles" seem to kind of suck. Most of them are most useful by dying at some point either early or mid game. Same with the werewolf. It seems to me like the mafia have the better roles.
ghug (5068 D(B))
05 May 15 UTC
To stop you from killing said person, uclabb. Probably another PR.

Kinda shitty role though, you're right.

mrh, see the video I linked. Violence is wrong.
Squigs44 (273 D)
05 May 15 UTC
@uclabb - I think there are very rare circumstances in which the bodyguard would want to visit. Obviously, he would only want to visit someone in the town alignment. He knows for a fact, that he is town, so sacrificing himself for someone that he thinks is town (or even if he knows is town) won't really help or make a difference. If he knows who the other power roles are, he might want to protect them in order to have their power used that night. Another situation is if he is about to be lynched (if he looks really scummy), then he might want to save someone that he thinks is very townie, so that the following day they dont waste their lynch on him anyway. All in all, not a very powerful role.
Fluminator (1500 D)
05 May 15 UTC
Bodyguard is basically a 1 shot doctor. That way if the cop stupidly screams he's the cop like what happened last game, he can be protected for a turn.
ghug (5068 D(B))
06 May 15 UTC
Unless the wolf tries to eat the cop, which he probably will.
mrh308 (197 D)
06 May 15 UTC
I'm listening right now, ghug. So you want to play pacifist mafia where no one dies? Or do you not believe in preemptive strikes? Why are you for no lynch now? The last two games I've followed and I don't remember you or anyone seriously arguing for no lynch. What purpose exactly does it serve?
Fluminator (1500 D)
06 May 15 UTC
I bet one of the early posters is scum. Who else would ask Hellen to clarify how the tracker works.
Squigs44 (273 D)
06 May 15 UTC
@Flum - maybe the tracker??
Fluminator (1500 D)
06 May 15 UTC
Oh, the werewolf does kind of make the bodyguard less useful. I better be careful to not reveal I'm the cop for the third game in a row.
ghug (5068 D(B))
06 May 15 UTC
We always get it wrong, mrh, we almost always hit town, and even when we don't the scum just claim a PR and we hit town anyway.

I asked him, Flum. Couldn't see any difference between Ninja and Mafioso because I didn't realize they all visited.
ND (879 D)
06 May 15 UTC
I've played some games before (not on this website -SC2 arcade) where no lynch is sometimes used at first until leads are established. But, I do think ghug needs to explain his reasoning as well.
uclabb (589 D)
06 May 15 UTC
Shouldn't the bodyguard *not* save the cop if they are outed (especially with a role block)? Surely a late game town claim is stronger than a naked cop who can just get RBed?
mrh308 (197 D)
06 May 15 UTC
Okay, but a plurality of the vote is needed to kill someone, so doesn't that mean that all it takes is one person to not vote no lynch to make it still worthless? What are the chances of getting so many people to vote no lynch that the others can be pressured to vote it or be lynched themselves?
Squigs44 (273 D)
06 May 15 UTC
If we dont lynch day 1, how will any useful leads get established??
If we dont lynch day 1, what makes day 2 any different (or day 3, or 4, etc)??
Fluminator (1500 D)
06 May 15 UTC
@ghug: Did you think the janitor was the only one to visit?
mrh308 (197 D)
06 May 15 UTC
Squigs, a person or people will presumably die in the night so there will be more information to go on. Like I said though I don't see how it is feasible in a practical way to get everyone to vote no lynch. Unless no lynch is also a candidate in which case you just need more people to vote for that. I guess that makes sense. Still seems questionable to me.
yassem (2533 D)
06 May 15 UTC
@Squigs, subsequent days will be different because people will die in ways other than being lynched as well.
ND (879 D)
06 May 15 UTC
so just one vote would trump a plurality of no lynch votes here? That does make that function worthless then.
mrh308 (197 D)
06 May 15 UTC
yeah I think I had that wrong. That's probably not right.

##Call GM can you confirm that no lynch is counted as fellow candidate in the lynch vote and doesn't operate like a hammer or some other method where a certain number needs to be reached for it to take effect.

These roles all look really weak to me. Tracker is a much worse version of the Cop, Bodyguard is a much worse version of the Doctor, Vigilante is exactly the same as last game, Hunter is the Vengeful Townie from last game. Oracle is a one-shot Cop who can accidentally reveal a town PR, so this doesn't seem like a great role to me either.

In comparison, Janitor seems insanely good. Ninja makes the Tracker even more useless than he already is, and Hooker is amazing, as always. Werewolf has a massive incentive to kill VTs and claimed PRs, as they'll be the easiest players to guess the identity of. I'm fairly certain town will be on the back foot in this game, given that the mafia have won a large percentage of the games even when we had better town PRs.
ghug (5068 D(B))
06 May 15 UTC
@Flum, I thought the mafioso actually enacted the kills and the janitor just visited if he was cleaning.
Fluminator (1500 D)
06 May 15 UTC
Look what you've started Ghug.
Squigs44 (273 D)
06 May 15 UTC
What information does a dead townie give other than "hey, they are townie, we shouldnt lynch them"

And if a PR does get some info, do we want them claiming on day 2 (and is that reveal more valuable than a dead townie)?
