Phase Lengths
So there are a bunch of game phase lengths in the range from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Why would anyone ever want to play a game that made them wake up every hour for (potentially) weeks? Has anyone ever used those phase lengths?

Words that are easy to say but hard to live by
I think we all have principles that we believe in that we have trouble following. Here's one of mine--These words from Paul's letter to the Christians in Philippi are close to 2000 years old and still carry tremendous meaning: Philippians 4:6-7. What are yours?

Should We Feel bad for Refusing to Draw Out for 10 years?
gameID=111449 I bought in high, and flubbed a solo run. Once stalemate lines were drawn, I just couldn't live with Germany getting a piece of the draw. However, though I retreated in 1913, England England refused to execute him... I understand loyalty, but I refused to end the game. Germany CD'ed in 1925 making both of our stands on principle moot.

Hello,

I have a request for a trustworthy individual. Draugnar will have to agree to the individual (and to participate in this). It will take probably over an hour or more of your time, but the site will make $100.

Minor bug
Several times in a game of mine, in the list of players at the bottom, it has shown that France is muted when I never muted France. I believe it has only happened when I've been in Russia's messages. When I switch to a different country's messages, it goes away, and doesn't come back when I switch back to Russia's. It's possible that it only happened when I'm first viewing the game after a new turn has began, but I'm not sure.

What 2ndWhiteLine said...+1. I've taken a few IQ tests, and the results of this online one were pretty far inflated from what I expected. Nice and ego-stroking, no doubt, but there's no way it's accurate.
murraysheroes (526 D(B))

For the record, I got like 110--and I know that's super-generous.
hecks (164 D)
26 Apr 13 UTC
The test is designed so that 95% of the population will fall between 70 and 130, so the results we're seeing here strongly suggest score inflation. (123 for me, but in fairness, there were a couple questions where I just got sick of thinking about it and went with a guess... I don' t have much patience for spatial questions.)

@2WL - it took a IQ test for you to realise that I'm dumb? Have you not been paying attention?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Apr 13 UTC
And score inflation on a site like this (I still contend that Diplomacy attracts those with higher intellects by its vary nature) means on a test with such obvious and simple pattern recognition puzzles, most people are going to cap it out.

CSteinhardt and dr. octagonapus are lying. I just did it as fast as I could and got a score of 160+, that means its literally impossible to get the scores of 172 and 200 that they claimed they got. Since the maximum this test allows is 160.

By answering every question wrong you get a score of <75. so if anyone claims they scored less then that, they are also lying.
IQ: 142
Personality: Extravert(44%) Sensing(1%) Thinking(75%) Judging(56%)
All-Time Ghost: Rank 29 / Rating 488.2642594817

I think the real study has nothing to do with the actual reported test results, but rather something like who can follow directions or who is more likely to argue that the tests are deficient.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Apr 13 UTC
@FlemGem (and a couple others much earlier) - He said GR Rating, not Rank. You goofs can't read and yet you still manage these IQ scores? Geez.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
26 Apr 13 UTC
@Fasces349, as was mentioned above, it presumably factors in age. So me being almost 40 pegged out at 154 on my fast run. But if a 20 year old does the same thing, he'll have a higher score. If you got in the 160s then I'm guessing you are early/mid 30s, am I right?

Of course to test this, I could go do the test again and lie about my age...
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Apr 13 UTC
HE did. HE ran fastest through born in 2001 and got the 160+ (and it literally said "160+" not "160")
Alderian (2425 D(S))
26 Apr 13 UTC
Hrmm, and I just ran through it as a "20 year old" and still got 154.

@Draugnar, I must have missed where he said born in 2001.

Yeah, if this were a literacy test, I believe almost all of you would have failed by now.

"You would then email us your userid, IQ, personality (four-letter such as ENTP), all-time ghostrating (not ranking), and the win/draw percent at [email protected].
You may post your results on the forum, but for accuracy (as accurate as self-reporting can be) reasons, please email us."

So far, I got 8 people or something who has emailed me/us at [email protected]...
Fasces349 (0 DX)
26 Apr 13 UTC
Yeah, I set my age as December 31st 2001, which is the youngest you can be.

But the 160+, was more of me saying that they have a definite cap at 160, and age wont effect that. However to get more then 154 on a non-teen age, you essentially have to answer fast enough that you wont have time to read the questions.

That said, answering every question wrong as a 20 year old gets you a score of <75, answering every question wrong as a 12 year old and waiting 7 minutes before submitting the result (lower time score) gets you an 85.

So its possible that unless you selected a teenage year the the result is capped at 154. Because answering instantly (I timed the last test I took, it took 17 seconds, and I still got a score of 154) you can't get more then 154 if your age is 18+.

LMFAO, I failed the literacy test (test that every 15 year old in the country has to take to prove that he is literate) first time I took it, luckily I passed the second time, since you need to prove your literate to graduate high school.

DYSLEXICS ARE TEOPLE POO!

In anycase I am still too lazy to take the personality test, so I wont be emailing the results anytime soon.

However I want to stress out that if anyone claims more then a 160 on the IQ test, they're lying, so ignore their results, when you actually do this study.

On a more serious note, I have found there is a big discrepancy between high GR games and non-GR ppsc games. In PPSC games, my responses are usually two to three sentences long and mostly monosyllabic while they are two to three paragraphs each in the GR games. Maybe instead of IQ, I should ask for a reading comprehension test.
FlemGem (1297 D)

Dyslexia makes reading nuf!

@ Draug - sorry, it was really late at night, and like I said I was feeling pretty lazy about the whole thing. I probably wouldn't even have posted if YHN hadn't turned out to be an ENTP, and I was like, "Whoa, Meyers-Briggs kinship! We have a *connection*!" Yeah, I need more sleep.

Ancient Med Stats?
Does anybody have any win/ draw stats for ancient med games? I know it's quite a balanced map but does any country fare notably better or worse than the others, such as can be seen with Italy in Classic, and South Africa in World etc.
Just by looking at the map I feel like Greece and Egypt might be worst off, despite my only ever solo on this site coming from Greece.
