Words that are easy to say but hard to live by
I think we all have principles that we believe in that we have trouble following. Here's one of mine--These words from Paul's letter to the Christians in Philippi are close to 2000 years old and still carry tremendous meaning: Philippians 4:6-7. What are yours?

Should We Feel bad for Refusing to Draw Out for 10 years?
gameID=111449 I bought in high, and flubbed a solo run. Once stalemate lines were drawn, I just couldn't live with Germany getting a piece of the draw. However, though I retreated in 1913, England England refused to execute him... I understand loyalty, but I refused to end the game. Germany CD'ed in 1925 making both of our stands on principle moot.

A Request for a Generous Mod
Hello,

I have a request for a trustworthy individual. Draugnar will have to agree to the individual (and to participate in this). It will take probably over an hour or more of your time, but the site will make $100.

Minor bug
Several times in a game of mine, in the list of players at the bottom, it has shown that France is muted when I never muted France. I believe it has only happened when I've been in Russia's messages. When I switch to a different country's messages, it goes away, and doesn't come back when I switch back to Russia's. It's possible that it only happened when I'm first viewing the game after a new turn has began, but I'm not sure.

Re: Gunboat Opportunity Missed to Thin the Draw...
gameID=111177 Case Study in thinning the draw for Gunboat - 5-way draw should have been 3... Communication without talking is not hard in a Gunboat end game...
josunice (3702 D(S))

Anlari - once you saw there was no solo in the cards for Turkey and seeing Fairfax (Italy) pulled back from MAO, if you wanted to thin the draw (sorry Pedagog), all you need do is pull back and give me (England) the space to finsh off Germany AND Russia (sorry Guak, too). There is always risk of those being cut out to try to throw the game for a solo (which could only be to you as Turkey anyhow), which would seem unlikely and not easy to achieve for Germany or Russia.

Thinning the draw in Gunboat is fascinating, and I enjoy that aspect of the game. However, there is clearly game fatigue and disappointment on your part with the solo hopes vanishing, where I understand you clicking the draw button and calling it a day...

Wot u doing posting your EOG here, cluttering up the forum with Diplo related threads :-)
Fairfax (1915 D)

I'm not sure if he could safely pull back. He had three neighbours: Russia, Germany and me. If he pulled back from Germany or Russia they would just try to take whatever he pulled out from in attempt to save themselves from being cut from the draw. Which I feel could possibly leave a good window for me, or maybe even you if you played your cards right, to take an opportunity to solo. Pulling out from Italy could possibly end up the same, with no real added benefit.

Definitely worth the risk, I think. He can retake Ionian from Naples and just look to take Galacia -- as long as you don't press him, you guys would see what England does in the next year and then make a draw decision. With you pulling back from MAO, I do not think there was a solo risk from Italy. Turkey has enough to defend while England begins to press from the North. Italy has the greatest interest to quickly draw being vulnerable to England, but Turkey need not care about that just yet... if England looks too strong, an allied Italy and Turkey would stop England for sure...

England, I think you're drastically over-selling your positioning on the board. The idea that you would have space to finish off Germany *and* Russia seems far-fetched given your current force deployment. You get one build in 1912 (stolen from Italy, Turkey's biggest threat), two if you throw yourself on Denmark. Turkey likely loses Naples but gains Trieste, which means he's at 12 -- does Russia disband Norway? Not likely, seeing you advancing on him. Instead he likely throws to Turkey. Even if that only gives Turkey St. Petersburg, that's an entire northern front he doesn't have to worry about for *years* while your ships laboriously get into position. Are you going to attack Germany now too? Suddenly a Turkey at strength 13 or 14 is going to make all sorts of trouble for such a southern-oriented Italy by just going up and around him in previously-German lands. That's a huge risk -- your large number of fleets is relatively useless for setting up a stalemate line, and if you steal builds from Italy to make armies you're only weakening him in the south.

Is it possible that the draw could have been reduced? Sure. But it also would have given Turkey a much better chance at a solo, and would have taken years regardless. If anything, Turkey should have continued and pushed for the solo.

JM - nothing is easy, but definitely room to see how it would develop... and hey, if your not willing to sell yourself hard, don't expect to be paid the big bucks, yes?

Ancient Med Stats?
Does anybody have any win/ draw stats for ancient med games? I know it's quite a balanced map but does any country fare notably better or worse than the others, such as can be seen with Italy in Classic, and South Africa in World etc.
Just by looking at the map I feel like Greece and Egypt might be worst off, despite my only ever solo on this site coming from Greece.

Aldy has done so much for this site, code wise, I think he has to be the most trustworthy of all our members, right up there with Kestas. I know the mdos and admins don't use popularity in their decision, but maybe they could add his name to consideration next time around.
