@ghug,
"semck, we're talking about an ideology killing people here, so I don't really think that it's unfair to count disease as part of such a death toll."
I think it's not only unfair, but absurd. I would say moronic if I didn't know better. That disease didn't follow in any discernible way from the political principles of anybody involved, but from the contact of two cultures, one of whom was unprepared, and from lack of scientific knowledge. Had the European settlers treated the native Americans with the utmost of respect and set up a mutual cultural learning and exchange program, the same thing would likely have happened.
@putin,
"You say this and in the next breath do exactly what I do except the subject is your heroic white European colonists."
Thank you for so excellently demonstrating my point. In fact I didn't call the white European colonists heroic or applaud what they did in any way; nor did I attack anybody for an unrelated political stance (which is what doing "exactly what you do" would entail). I merely disputed a number.
"I have yet to hear one single comment from Semck or Stressedlines condemning the legions of rightwingers who threaten political opponents and/or wish violence on their opponents (Obama in particular) on a daily basis in the United States."
This is false. I do condemn it whenever you bring it up. Here's an example, one of several:

threadID=935225And I'll do it again now: people who threaten Obama or other political opponents with death are horrifying and deserve condemnation and reviling.
What I just did, and always do, is what you never will.
