What are the odds that they will beat the USA in the gruop stage to progress to meet South Korea in the 2nd Round?

I have heard that in the US, the top 5% wealthiest people control 95% of the country's wealth.

Three of my favorite writers suffer from what many view as a fatal flaw. Tolkien, Fleming, and Frank Herbert all go to great lengths to describe in sometimes excrutiating detail the world their characters inhabit, from the fantastical in Herbert and Tolkien to the everyday mundane as in the breakfast that 007 loves (something you WON'T find in the movies, by the way).

By that is what I so enjoy. The total immersion into their world.
To Centurian,

When I joined this sight, I accidentally misspelled my username by one letter. I posted a thread in which I asked Kestas to correct my error. I think because it was only one letter, and I'm sure most players didn't even notice the change, it was corrected for me. You might think about doing the same thing.
Mine is taken after a T-Shirt that I saw at church. It read "Yes, I'm one of those Crazy Episcopalians". I'm no longer Episcopalian so I had to update it.

Friendly Sword wins this thread. Best back story ever.

My name came about because I needed a screen name and there was a crayon on the desk. Crayons are kind of lame though, so I went with chalk instead. Then I added an 's'. >.>

otto van bismarck hence ottovanbis feel free to click this link http://s9.gladiatus.com/game/c.php?uid=156989
@Friendly Sword1 - ".. created a fantastic and deeply conceived world with engaging history, colourful characters ..." - have you read Frank Herbert's "Dune"?

@Friendly Sword2 - "... even if all of them were men ..." Eowin was a man? I don't think so! Galadriel was a man!?!?!? Wrong, TWICE! ;-)
@Friendly Sword3 - Yours is the best story though.
Invictus (240 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
Mine is a Latin victory title used for Roman emperors and generals. It means "invincible" or, my preferred translation, "unconquered."

Coincidentally, it's also the name of an upcoming movie starring Morgan Freeman and directed by Clint Eastwood about Nelson Mandela.

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/eastwoods-invictus-set-for-december-11

If it's successful I think I'll change to a new username so people don't think I ripped off the movie. Is "His Eminence" taken? I might do it now...
Pete U (293 D)

I wish I'd picked a cooler name, but I just ported my FB one over, which is (surprisingly) my first name and initial.
Captain Dave (113 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
@ottovanbis - his name was Otto VON Bismarck, not Otto VAN Bismarck. He was German, not Dutch :-P
This is my given name
Ursa (1617 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
Ursa is latin for 'Bear', in what form is still contested. It has become a nickname and overall internet username since some year now. I like it, it has a good sound and the association with 'bear' reflects some character traits I have or want to have.
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)

Not really familiar with bear characteristics - which ones do you like. Hibernation? :)
spyman (424 D(G))

My usual online name is either flashman or Harry Flashman (my nickname in real life), but when I found phpdiplomacy I could see there was a regular contributor with the name already. So I went with the name that a friend of mine gave me when he created a gamespy account for me a few years ago (we used to play Age of Empires online).
Poseidon (121 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
I'm a swimmer, and overall just love water. Especially open water (oceans, seas, lakes...) Therefore, the Greek god of the Sea - Poseidon.
Rare Eagle (476 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
I reversed the word order of my favorite bourbon - Eagle Rare. I've also been known to use Mas Cerveza. Hmm - I sense a trend.

@Those who commented. Thanks for the compliments, though unfortunately the story as I told it is not entirely true. I was born on the 3rd of March, not the 4th.

@SpeakertoAliens

I have indeed read the Dune series, including the newer ones by Herberts son (which were unexpectedly very good).

It indeed matches the grandeur and scope of the Lord of the Rings, albeit in a slightly different mileu, with perhaps slightly superior writing :).

If anyone could be considered to have topped Tolkien, it would be Frank Herbert.

that made me laugh more than just about anything else I've ever seen on this site =)
iMurk789 (100 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
imurk789- nickname used to be imark, combining first letter of my first name with my last name- then i realized that if i switched the a in my name to a u, it would spell murk, which is slang similar to pwn or dominate. so i realized my nickname would be iMurk. i fell in love instantaneously. i added the numbers because iMurk was already used.
Mine is hijacked from a tongue-in-cheek browser-based RPG called The Kingdom of Loathing.

@Friendly, I thought I had come across you before! I think you current owner' great-great grandfather visited one of my alter-ego's previous incarnations, Russell Nash, in the summer of 1911 in his antiquities store in New York. Your former owner had tried to sell you in order to pay some death duty. Whilst it has to be said you were then well kept sword, I think your then owner asked a little too much and a bargain couldn't be struck. As I recall, the two participants to the failed deal went out and got pissed anyway. Isn't it strange that we should both turn up on this site nearly 100 years later?

Did you have a little damage to your hilt and has it been repaired?

pootercannon (326 D)

@NPRZ:

I played KoL for a bit and I had fun naming all of the, uh, what the hell were they called? Friendlies? Anyway, the pets. And I named my chicken Pooter Cannon (spelled just like that). It sounded funny, kinda gross but not, and the next time I had to come up with an online alias, NONE of my normal handles worked so I threw in pootercannon and boom, a legend was born.

I don't remember any NinjaPirateMajiggers in the game, though.
Jacob,
Its funny. In reality, my father used to call my brother and I Dingleberry on occasion. I was about 30 when I finally learned what it meant, and I truly believe my father never knew.

sissy girl (0 DX)

sissy girl is a name to piss other hardcore players off. in my nursing home i always read orson scott card books, there my fave. i love how he incorporates christianity in almost all his books.

@ Invictus.
That is also my all-time fave poem by William Ernest Henley (I've always used the translation 'unconquered' as well)

@Amicable Blade
Awesome back story my friend.
Androctonus (196 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
my name is greek for man-killer, it is also the genus name for the highly dangerous fat-tailed scorpions.

This seemed appropriate in the context of the game.

Onar (131 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
My name is the shortened form of my usual screenname on just about every other site I visit. In fact, this version came from one such site, where everyone was given a random nickname, and that was mine, based off of the first and middle portion.

Is it just me or does the text box not start the new line soon enough and end up in 3-6 words you can't see until posted. People like myself, who like to spell/type properly, must be annoyed as well. Unless it is only on my side, if so what can I do to fix it?
