Amid yet another sign of a complete brainwashing scheme to throw out anyone with a half bit of independent thought, the GOP appears to be splitting. Where's the line, (when) are they going to split?

You idiots!
I'd like to point out to everyone on this website that is a Marxist (There are quite a few of them, though I've muted most), that it hasn't worked in the long run ANYWHERE. Soviet Russia, Cuba, France, Norway, Poland, Rumania, Czechoslovakia, Angola, Somalia--all places where Marxism existed for a long time, ended up worse off then they were before.

Normal Games?
Although I haven't been on this exact website very long, I've noticed that there aren't that many normal games anymore. I don't mean like classic, or world diplomacy or whatever. It just seems there are a lot of gunboat and winner-takes-all/no in-game messaging games. I'm not dissing those types because they can be fun. But diplomacy is about talking with people. I'm not dissing different types. I'd just like to know other people's views on this.

mobile app!
I think a mobile app for this site would be great. Notifications when people send messages or that a phase is almost finished would help games move along much smoother. I'm sure there are many more things that could be done on an app, maybe even everything, but that alone would be helpful. I don't know anything about programming apps, though, so someone get on it!!

@bo - "arrested and jailed" is not prison. It is jail. I have been "arrested and jailed" and then found "not guilty" because of a case of mistaken identity. Lots of innocent people are arrested and jailed for a weekend or even the term of a trial. Then they are found not guilty and walk away, some with their lives in ruin because they lost their job. Luckily for me, the guy I was mistaken for struck again while I was sitting in the jail cell for the weekend and they let me go as soon as my hearing that Monday morning. I then sued the County for false imprisonment and they settled out of court for $25,000 for the Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, and half of Monday I sat in a jail cell and my attorney fees.

@Maniac - Discrimination is never right. Discrimination does not take someone who is endagering others lives or opportunities and punish them. It does the exact opposite. It punishes others for being something they have no control over. The guy on the ladder was endangering others lives. He had a choice: move on or get thrown off. The applicants discriminated against in AA don't have a choice. They are penalized just for being white. Likewise those discriminated against because of racial or gender prejudice don't have a choice. So there is *never* a time where discrimination is OK.

We have laws against discrimination. If anyone feels discriminated against, they have a course of redress with the courts *unless* they are discriminated against by AA because AA is supposedly addressing a past wrong. Well the time is right to redress AA's discriminatory practices by outlawing it as it is implemented and ending quotas.

Use of marijuana is illegal. They are not discussing false imprisonment. They are not discussing the "not guilty" verdict. The fact of the matter is that, misdemeanor or felony, that study shows quite clearly that marijuana arrests in New York City are racially charged. Considering that Bloomberg, a guy who admittedly has done drugs in his life, is the one leading that charge, the study is only that much more disturbing.

An "early 20s skinny white guy" in a "black sports car" was robbing convenience stores. I happen to pull into one in my old 280Z that same night just as a cop got the BOLO in said convenience store. He drew his gun on me despite my not having a weapon (I will *not* carry a gun, but will defend the rights of my fellow Americans to do so) and arrested me on suspicion.

The "sports car" was a black 78 Mazda RX7 and I was driving a black 79 Nissan 280Z. I got the larger settlement mostly because the cop drew on me when I was unarmed, otherwise, I would probably have only gotten a few grand for my time and trouble and attorney's fees.

The fact is, bo, my example was specifically felons in prison because SY asked about felons. You *cannot* count misdemeanors that onle result in fail time. Those folks aren't felons. SY said felons. You are defending his felon argument and trying to counter my felon argument with misdemeanors. You fail. Simple as that.

So draugnar - if you could let me know if any of these actions are discrimination and if any of them are 'right'.
A Thai restaurant advertises for Thai staff.
A rep company advertises for a black actor to play othello,
A charity is awarded state funds to help them resettle prisoners leaving jail.
A local authority gives more housing points to returning soldiers.

Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Apr 13 UTC
Thai resaurant - immoral (and as it happens, has been found to be illegal)

The rep company is immoral as well. They may use skin color as a criteria for the role, but they have to give all actors a chance to apply. I will point out that in Shakespeare's day, he was an Arab Moor, not a black man, anyhow.

As long as they server *all* prisoners leaving prison or jail, this isn't discriminatory.

The housing points is also not discriminatory. Anyone can chose to be a soldier in theory.

Discrimination is against a person for distinguishing characteristics they can do nothing about: gender, race, ethnic origin, and more arguably, sexual orientation (that one is still debated between choice or nature: I lean towards nature so it is discrimination).

And I* will again point out that if AA were just about giving an advantage to two otherwise equal candidates, I would have no trouble with it. The problem resides in how it currently exists so that candidates who are lesser qualified get the job/postion/slot/contract just because they fulfilled a quota by being a minority. It is wrong to pass over someone more qualified or a company who came in with a lower bid just because someone less qualified happened to be a minority. It is also wrong to pass over an equally or more qualified minority because they *are* a minority.

Draug, hear me out, I don't like AA either, but there needs to be some version of it. Again, though, I don't care if Synapse said "felons," a misdemeanor and a felon can both result in prison, which was your criterion. That's what I'm going off of here. Frankly, I'm pretty sure that I could find something regarding felons, too, but I don't know what to look for because my main talking point is usually drugs o_O
Draugnar (0 DX)

No, a misdemeanor only results in jail. You need to learn the difference between jail and prison.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misdemeanor

"Punishments for misdemeanors

In the United States, misdemeanors are typically crimes with a maximum punishment of 12 months of incarceration, typically in a local jail as contrasted with felons, who are typically incarcerated in a prison. Jurisdictions such as Massachusetts are a notable exception where the maximum punishment of some misdemeanors is up to 2.5 years. People who are convicted of misdemeanors are often punished with probation, community service, short jail term, or part-time imprisonment; served on the weekends.

Misdemeanors usually do not result in the loss of civil rights, but may result in loss of privileges, such as professional licenses, public offices, or public employment. Such effects are known as the collateral consequences of criminal charges. This is more common when the misdemeanor is related to the privilege in question (such as the loss of a taxi driver's license after a conviction for reckless driving), or when the misdemeanor involves moral turpitude – and in general is evaluated on a case-by-case basis."

"Even before the March on Washington, he [MLK] had applauded the Indian government’s efforts to help the caste once called untouchables through “special treatment to enable the victims of discrimination” including the provision of Especial employment opportunities.” Moreover, in his 1964 book, “Why We Can’t Wait,” King compared the social reforms he favored to the GI Bill of Rights, which gave World War II veterans special preferences including home loans, college scholarships and special advantages in competition for civil service jobs. King maintained that African- Americans could never be adequately compensated for the “exploitation and humiliation” they had suffered in the past, but he proposed a “Negro Bill of Rights” as a partial remedy for these wrongs. He insisted that African-Americans should be compensated through “a massive program by the government of special, compensatory measures which could be regarded as a settlement in accordance with the accepted practice of common law.” He added that “such measures would certainly be less expensive than any computation based on two centuries of unpaid wages and accumulated interest.”"

AA did it's job. The problem now is getting minorities qualified at a younger age and AA can't fix that.

Re: prison, misdemeanors, jail and felonies:

I think this varies by state.
In Arizona, if you are sentenced to 6 months or less, you go to county jail - in Maricopa county that lands you in Joe Arpayo's tent city. If you are sentenced for more than 6 months, you go to DOC (Az Dept of corrections) which is prison. There are felonies which carry sentences of weeks, possession of drug paraphernalia, for example - class 6 misdemeanor - you do your sentence in county (jail).

I'm not sure if there are misdemeanors that carry a longer sentence than 6 months (I dont think there are), but if there were, then you'd be off to DOC.

AA doesn't close the wage gap. You are an idiot if you think it does. AA holds down a more deserving person to give a less deserving person their spot. AA doesn't force an employer to pay the same wage, just to give a C average college grad the job instead of the valedictorian because the C average student is black. But the company cam then pay him significantly less and justifiably so because he doesn't qualify for the top rate of pay.

Except what it actually is is white girls crying to their parents that they aren't good enough to get into the college they'd "always planned on attending" and so the parents so "those black kids took her spot!"

Pretty weak shit.

ah yes. the reverse racism canard.

how dare you point out my privilege, you racist! I'm colorbliiiiiind! just like MLK!

there is such a thing as being racist against white people, pointing out a person's white privilege is not that.

rolling the streets gunning down white people for being white, now that's racism.
locking people in cages for being white, now that's racism.
