WE STAAAAAAAAAAACKED
Going against the best team in the NFL and holding them to only one touchdown. Rodgers can run for 1st downs all day, since we love tackling him with big hits.

Haha Babak, very funny! Of those seven games, I got five draws (three three-ways and two four-ways) and had two defeats. It wasn't easy to break triple digits into quadruple digits (something I was honestly a bit too aware of at the time), and that's the beauty of GR, it can't increase consistently forever like points. It's a bummer to lose that much GR in one month, but it's also a bit of a badge of honor, five draws in seven games isn't exactly poor play, but everything is relative. I look forward to the challenge of getting back up to quadruple digits, even if I'm not overly optimistic about ever doing it again, and even though I feel I'm still learning and improving all the time. Thanks Ghost, I think my huge drop proves how well your rating system works, well done!
But... uh... um... I'm still 4th in peak GR! >[

Oh, are there player of the year awards yet?

40 spots up to 67, just for a single game that ended 3way with MM - nice!

Very nice, jumped up to 30th. My little slip really got me motivated.

Thanks ghost for you work on GR. This month no finished games for me :(

Ghost ratings are unfair! I am going backwards. I do alright in Ancient Med and World variants, but it appears that I simply suck at the Classic game. And they are the only ones the ghost ratings work on! at this rate I will have the lowest rank by Easter!
MuadDib (1432 D)

35 places up! Oh yeah!

Thanks for the great work Ghost!!!
And after some really bad games lately is good to be still in the top 10!!
Alderian (2425 D(S))

@nudge, you do get credit for Ancient Med and World, but it only counts half I believe. Less risk but less gain.

Alderian is correct

GR 'work' on variants, but there is less risk and less reward, I believe. You have to work harder to move up or down.

I was the captain of that team. part of what gave us the medal was the forum I created where we discussed game plus my excellent intel gathering about opponents. winning in my games was secondary and optional. ;-)

Will there be another world cup on this site?

I think we would have a very strong team from Canada.

597 spaces up to 769. Still a long way to go to get back to where I was, and it's not looking like this month is going to help a whole lot :/ But, I'm definitely moving on up :)

Thanx TGM

Up to 19! Though I'm thinking I've just about peaked...

As for World games perhaps I'm not understanding this right but if there are 17 people in a game each with a 80 GR, and each only bets half of the normal GR bet of 1/8, so 1/16 then you get a total of 17 people betting 5 D each, or 85 D. Which is actually more then a normal game would have, since it would be 10*7 = 70. Is this how it works or am I misunderstanding the "count's for half" phrase?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
15 Jan 12 UTC
Nope, you're right. Except it counts for a quarter, not a half, because I was finding people were making massive swings on these games.
Yonni (136 D(S))
15 Jan 12 UTC
@lando, agreed. I think we could do well.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
15 Jan 12 UTC
You are risking a quarter of the normal amount of GR. A three way draw in a World game will gain you a lot more than a three way draw in a Classic game since you are splitting a larger pot due to the extra 10 players. But then presumably it is harder to get to the three way draw point in a World game than in a Classic game since there are 10 additional people to get past.

Great American Political Quotes
Europe is so different than America that European political philosophy has little relevance in the United States. (2012 should keep it that way as well).
I dedicate this thread to American political quotes.

Check out this guy - Machiavelli is right
gameID=77832

In a 5 minute live game, Turkey, Russia, and England don't show up. I (playing France) move immediately to Cancel and Austria, some guy named Octopus_seppuku, refuses and quite obviously wins due to the Balkans, Turkey and Russia being uncontested. I just find that very poor sportsmanship and not in the spirit of the game. I guess he needed to pad his rating or something. How utterly base and sad.

Arizona Bans Mexican/Native-American Texts From Classes, Including...Shakespeare?!
http://www.salon.com/2012/01/13/whos_afraid_of_the_tempest/singleton/
In a meeting this week, administrators informed Mexican-American studies teachers to stay away from any units where “race, ethnicity and oppression are central themes,” including the teaching of Shakespeare’s classic ["The Tempest"] in Mexican-American literature courses.
1. What is up with Arizona's Latino-phobia, and 2. Really...Shakespeare banned as Latino Lit? O.O

I'm new to the site and am looking at "Bye, Points" active game. Says no in game messaging, anomymous players. Yet I see Italy supporting Austria and another cooperation later in the game. How does this happen? Doen't look like a lucky guess to me

I had a misorder last night that I'd confirmed about 5 times and now I can see all of TC's threads even though he's muted. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this since I'm assuming this is a problem with my browser and not with the site?

It Happened in 1912...Will Another GOP 7-10 Split Help Obama Win like Wilson in 1912?
Everyone knows the story--William Howard Taft got the GOP nomination in 1912 (more due to Taft's being friends and more laissez-faire than actual popularity in regards to the powers that be than TR) but Teddy Roosevelt still had so much solo-name-starpower he became the most successful 3rd party candidate ever...but BOTH LOST to some fellow the Democrats ran by the name of Woodrow Wilson, due in large part to a split GOP vote. Do you think Romney/RP/Obama=Roosevelt/Taft/Wilson, 2012=1912?
