Going against the best team in the NFL and holding them to only one touchdown. Rodgers can run for 1st downs all day, since we love tackling him with big hits.

Sick of the Liars!
Ok, so I've just inflamed half a dozen trolls who are reading this this morning. Going to enjoy hearing from them all day. But it isn't the trolls that have me down. It is the liars!

Major Step Invitational
An open invitation to a long phase, full-press game. More to follow:
moskowitz (160 D)

Dear Fellow Webdiplomacy players:

I fell like I've been on this site long enough - and I know some of you long time players well enough - to try my hand at organizing a good Invitational game. The game will be postal in nature: with full press and a long phase (I imagine 3 to 5 days, to give plenty of opportunities for well thought out strategy and fervent diplomacy.) It will be Anonymous, as most good games are, to prevent previous experiences from factoring into diplomatic decisions (as much as possible, anyway). And of course, winner-takes-all, to keep the end game clean.

I call this a Major Step Invitational because I'm going to firmly set the buy in at a hard 143 dip points (please don't ask me to change it). I'm doing this so that there will be 1001 D at stake in the game. My target players are those who have never cracked 1000 dip points (or have barely cracked it) and are looking for a chance to make that leap. But of course, anyone who has the points and would be interested in a long phase game is welcome; I won't discriminate against players with thousands of points who are interested in this game.

Please PM me, or post on this thread, if you're interested and you're willing to commit to play a full game given the long phase involved. (I should say that I hope the players in this game will be generous regarding reasonable pauses, replacing players for good cause, and finalizing moves).

Once I have 7 players interested, I'll set up the game. We can always set up more than one if there's enough interest.
Onar (131 D)

I'm interested.

Cool, Onar, I'll add you to the list. Thanks for being the first to respond! Do you have any opinion on phase length? I was thinking 3-5 days but hadn't narrowed it down from there. 5 days gives more opportunity for diplomacy, but frankly I'm not sure most people need that much time and I'm afraid people might get bored. Then again, if the phase were 5 days everyone could just finalize if they are truly done with diplomacy, and a shorter phase might mean that some people can't respond to press in time (we have busy lives after all). Thoughts?

bump - still looking to fill this game up!
Haert (234 D)

I'd be interested.
In terms of phase length, I'm currently in a 2 day phase game with full press and that seems to give everyone involved enough time for diplomacy without taking forever.
moskowitz (160 D)
15 Jan 12 UTC
I'm going to set up the game tonight and I'll PM you the password to everyone who has expressed interest.

Are 3 day phases okay with everyone? I want to make sure that if the game progresses in the middle of the night, and you send press first thing in the morning, and folks don't respond until the next day, there will still be time to finish strategizing and submit orders. I think 3 days will accomplish that, and if everyone finishes their diplomacy early, we can all just finalize (that's what the button is there for right?)

We are still looking for more people by the way, so PM me or post on this thread if you're interesed in this game! I'll post when we're full.

Great American Political Quotes
Europe is so different than America that European political philosophy has little relevance in the United States. (2012 should keep it that way as well).
I dedicate this thread to American political quotes.

Check out this guy - Machiavelli is right
gameID=77832

In a 5 minute live game, Turkey, Russia, and England don't show up. I (playing France) move immediately to Cancel and Austria, some guy named Octopus_seppuku, refuses and quite obviously wins due to the Balkans, Turkey and Russia being uncontested. I just find that very poor sportsmanship and not in the spirit of the game. I guess he needed to pad his rating or something. How utterly base and sad.

Arizona Bans Mexican/Native-American Texts From Classes, Including...Shakespeare?!
http://www.salon.com/2012/01/13/whos_afraid_of_the_tempest/singleton/
In a meeting this week, administrators informed Mexican-American studies teachers to stay away from any units where “race, ethnicity and oppression are central themes,” including the teaching of Shakespeare’s classic ["The Tempest"] in Mexican-American literature courses.
1. What is up with Arizona's Latino-phobia, and 2. Really...Shakespeare banned as Latino Lit? O.O

Newbie question
I'm new to the site and am looking at "Bye, Points" active game. Says no in game messaging, anomymous players. Yet I see Italy supporting Austria and another cooperation later in the game. How does this happen? Doen't look like a lucky guess to me

I had a misorder last night that I'd confirmed about 5 times and now I can see all of TC's threads even though he's muted. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this since I'm assuming this is a problem with my browser and not with the site?

It Happened in 1912...Will Another GOP 7-10 Split Help Obama Win like Wilson in 1912?
Everyone knows the story--William Howard Taft got the GOP nomination in 1912 (more due to Taft's being friends and more laissez-faire than actual popularity in regards to the powers that be than TR) but Teddy Roosevelt still had so much solo-name-starpower he became the most successful 3rd party candidate ever...but BOTH LOST to some fellow the Democrats ran by the name of Woodrow Wilson, due in large part to a split GOP vote. Do you think Romney/RP/Obama=Roosevelt/Taft/Wilson, 2012=1912?
