Does anyone know how to get new AIs for DAIDE? I've only played against Albert and I'd like to get new ones but each time I get one it tells me its the wrong version. If anyone can help enable a fellow Diplo addict I'd appreciate it!

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: Free As a (Causally-Determined) Bird
Right, so "causality" is apparently a four-letter word with my Philosophy of Religion professor, as for him there is absolutely no hearing an argument agaisnt free will, the whole, weeks-long discussion was led by him and emhpasized not IF we can have free will but rather HOW we DO have free will, ie, is it God, science, a balance, and on...so I present it to you, the WebDip Philosophical Community--CAN we have free will, if so to what degree, and if not, why, and is there any point to life?

Anonymous messages in-game
An idea went to my mind: what would you think of the option to write anonymous messages in your games? Parallel and independent to your regular comments of course.
Discuss here if it pleases you.

Rhyming game
This variant of the game seems like it can be a lot of fun. I had the pleasure of seeing one unfold about a year ago. Since I havent been on this site in so long, I have no idea if this has become a common trait among different games on this site now.
The rules are exactly the same as a normal dip game, but with one exception.
if you want to say something, you have to make it rhyme.

Decrimanalizing Marijuana
In Canada there is some discussion about decriminalizing Marijuana. It will still be against the law to use or distribute, but it will be punished by a ticket (like a traffic ticket) instead of a criminal record.

Where do you think that money goes?
warsprite (152 D)
09 Nov 10 UTC
@abgemacht Going by people you know is hardly objective. As a Baby Boomer I know quiet a few in my age group who think it should be legalized. R wingers want it legalized to minimize goverment in peoples lives, as well L wingers. It's seems more middle R law and order groups who want to keep it illegal. How many hardcore Bapitist you know use pot?
I am against it, but I'm not sure that I'm convinced that its a gateway drug. On one hand some of my friends have changed after they started using pot, and some went on to doing LSD and acid and such, but the vast majority of my friends who do smoke it are just content with pot.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@warsprite

I'd like you to re-read your first sentence. Then read the rest of your paragraph and explain how you aren't directly contradicting yourself.
warsprite (152 D)
09 Nov 10 UTC
The gateway drug ideal is a myth. There are more people who got hooked on prescription drugs before going on to street drugs.
warsprite (152 D)
09 Nov 10 UTC
I know am condradicting myself. My point is the people you hang with tend to have simular views.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
09 Nov 10 UTC
I actually hang out with a varied crowd.

But, back to the point.

I agree that going by people I know is not particularly useful. I also agree that pot is not inherently a gateway drug. I think it's more the perception of pot that society has created that makes it more likely to be a gateway.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
09 Nov 10 UTC
Maybe it is in the general case warsprite, but from my experience it is (not me, my friends/former friends).
The effect prolonged use can/does have on the brain should also be a worry to those thinking of taking.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
09 Nov 10 UTC
@figle

I absolutely agree. Not using it is, without a doubt, better than using it. But, I think that it is actually more damaging being illegal. The sale is unmonitored, the quality is unmonitored, you diminish the psychological effects breaking the law has on people, etc.
warsprite (152 D)
09 Nov 10 UTC
Like any drug it's quanity of use as much as anything else that brings out the negative affects. Interestingly I recent read a study seems to indicate that it's the ratio of chemicals in the plant that determains degree of harm in the brain.

@Bob: Well, the streets ran red with blood for a few days, and every volcano in MA erupted at once, and Nazis congealed out of dirt and rode dinosaurs for a while... but once that all passed everything continued surprisingly normally.

10%?! WTF?! That would be $7500 for me. Hell, 1/10th of a year is more than an entire month's income! And how do you determine net income? Big wig execs get paid for speaking and find the loopholes to reduce their tax liability that the avergae joe squeeking by on less than 6 figures can't. Yet Joey proposes taking 10% of average joe's income for a littel weed when joe has a wife and two and a half kids he has to support. You're fucking insane!
vamosrammstein (757 D(B))

Could we compromise at 1/12 of the net income?:p

Really? A full month? Could you live a month on nothing at all?
Draugnar (0 DX)

Try 2% of your last AGI. That would be about $1000 or a week's take home for me.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

09 Nov 10 UTC
Nor do cash game poker players. :-)
figlesquidge (2131 D)
09 Nov 10 UTC
Trip, surely the whole point is the hypothetical situation in which it is legalised and thus they do.
trip (696 D(B))
09 Nov 10 UTC
@ figlesquidge: it's obviously a hypothetical, but i was under the impression that decriminalization was being discussed, not legalization...the title of the thread being "Decrimanalizing Marijuana" and all.
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Nov 10 UTC
I think Trip's point was fining a percent of annual AGI doesn't work when the person has no legal income so looks indigent on a 1040 and gets anything taken out of their welfare check back.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
09 Nov 10 UTC
@trip

We're not talking about the dealers paying a fine. They're still trafficking drugs and would (and should) go to jail.

It's the user (who usually does have a legit income) that would pay the fine.

Side note: Has anyone ever noticed that only two industries refer to the customer as a "user." Illegal Drugs and Computers : )
