AMP has an unfair advantage when playing against TheIrish, because he knows he can manipulate him. How is that not metagaming? He admitted that he specifically asked him to take over because he knows he could use him. While using him after he takes over is fine, getting him to take over, in my opinion, isn't.

People try to get people to take over their CDs all the time on the forum.
If I think I can manipulate you, arn't you a better choice then someone I can't manipulate?

Actually, Mario Puzo has a writing credit in all three because parts of the book (Vito youth) were included in Part II and Mario Puzo was a co-writer of the script for all three.

That being said, GFII is pretty good, but GFIII is a little weaker.

But he isn't cross gaming and he isn't going into it with either an unbreakable alliance or a guaranteed fight. He may or may not stab, depedning on the situation. I have no problem with it. If the guy is that gullible, then you, as a strong diplomat (theoretically) should also be able to manipulate him.

But you shouldn't be able to manipulate him _outside_ of the game. That's my point.

GFII is actually better than the first in my opinion. The third is weaker though.

AMP, who posted the porn link though? The log-in data from around the time of the post puts both you and TheIrish logging in from the same computer.

Community, my question was more asking what we should do to people who post porn links. I already have a general idea of how to deal with multi accounting and metagaming.

I do believe that the next release will let me "mute" people from the forums, but still let them play games. If they're really persistent trolls, and won't take their temporary or perhaps permanent ban and try to start accounts to get around, I suppose I can just straight ban them for multi accounting. =)

I don't necessarily have a problem with the porn links, but it's just as bad as what the trolls do, IMHO. To think that this thread bumped something off the forum is, well, pretty sad.

I believe the update will also let you delete threads like this one, no? In the future, I think that threads like this should simply be deleted.

And lastly, am I the only one who is angry about the, what I think is, major metagaming? How is it any different to create an account that you control to join a game than it is to convince a person you can control to join a game. I don't have a problem with him manipulating him inside of the game. That's fine. I have a problem that three out of four of Irish's games were played with AMP, and AMP used him every time, and admitted that he lobbied Irish to take over because he knew he could control him. That gives him an obviously unfair advantage over the other players in the game. I'm just glad I'm not one of them. By the way, AMP won two of the three games he played with Irish...

@ Draug, yeah, maybe you could manipulate him, if he didn't have a friend of his playing in the game. He implicitly trusts him, and nothing will change that, regardless of how gullible he is.

rlumley, you make a good point, despite that intuitively I have no problem with AMP's manipulation of his friend. I can't imagine banning either of them for this... what would you suggest?

AMP, you've already mentioned that it's unlikely that TheIrish will join another game with you. That's probably for the best, because the more it happens, the more trouble you'll be risking, because while it certainly seems within the spirit of Diplomacy, it is pretty much metagaming.

I'm not sure I'd ban them. I'd be close to it though. At the very least, though, they should be prohibited from playing together again, under penalty of ban.

Ideally (I haven't seen this discussed, so I don't think it's part of the update) I think the mods should have the power to remove points, and I would lobby that we should remove 50% of AMPs points from those two wins. I think that sounds the most fair.

Also, what about about making all warnings issued to a player publicly viewable in their profile. I think that would be a very good change, although perhaps tedious to code. Or maybe you could just have different color flags for different things. Blue flag = bad behavior in forums, red flag = multi, pink flag = metagamer. A type of scarlet letter, as it were. :-)

@ AMP: It's not a skill to control someone you know personally. You have an incredible advantage over them than everyone else on this site.

It's like the very first game of diplomacy I ever played. I allied with my brother, and we cleaned up. (It was F2F) We had an unfair advantage over everyone else because we were brothers.

My point is that such situations are unfair, and are situations that I'd prefer to avoid, which means I'll be avoiding you in games for the foreseeable future. I have no way of knowing if you'd pull a stunt like this again or not, but I'd rather not take the risk. If no one else agrees with me, that's fine. They don't have to.
