Unless most other Diplomacy maps, Empire4 is not very balanced and a few nations have severe disadvantages that make it very difficult for them to win while others are fairly overpowered. I can explain more if someone wants to ask.

Rival/hatred game variant
I'd like to play a game mode where each player is secretly given a unique rival (so no two players share a rival), and the only players counted at the end of the draw are those who have both survived and eliminated their rival. A solo doesn't need to eliminate their rival and rivals aren't necessarily symmetrical.

Unknown Player in Anonymous Private Game
I'm completely new to Diplomacy and this website. I made a private game and explained to my friends how to join my private match. Though only 2 people say they've joined, I have 3 anonymous players other than myself registered. Is it possible one of them joined twice? I know by the time stamps that it was one of the first two players who joined the game, the times are only a minute apart, and I am wondering if the small time frame is just a player joining twice.

Hugh Hefner dies at age 91. ##VOTE YEA 6.1, 6.4, 6.6, 6.31
##VOTE NAY 6.2, 6.3, 6.5, 6.7, 6.9, 6.10, 6.11

Regarding 6.10 and 6.11, I don’t think that trade restrictions are the way to go for us. We are quite starved on resources and have done a fine job being efficient with what we have, but limiting our trade opportunities is a bad idea right now. Once we have some trade partners that we can waive these fees for and we have the necessary military strength and economic fortitude to enforce these fees, I will fully support them.

I don’t think that brain’s military proposals were particularly wise and I would like to leave that choice to the Lieutenant, provided that he wants the opportunity to oversee the military in such a fashion. As such, I voted no to that proposal.

6.32 is dangerous. Our morale is already low and only stands to get lower once the colonists inevitably realize that brain was not the witch, especially if the witch resurfaces. We need to reconsider the merits of lying to our people in the name of what is perceived as a greater good. The Elder was a despicable character whose constant blabber threatened the security and safety of all of us, not to mention that he was a drain to our colony as a whole. We had no other recourse, and while I do not pretend that there is ever a viable excuse for sanctioned murder, that is as satisfactory of an explanation as anyone should need.

However, given my role in this whole thing, I will abstain from voting on 6.32 and allow the rest of you to decide its fate.

Bo's point about morale makes a lot of sense, actually. I'm going to change my vote for 6.32 - ##Vote Nay Prop 6.32

However, I do think we need to come up with an alternative way of explaining to the colony what exactly went on with Brain's death. If that means the Governor coming out and explaining his position, then so be it.

I wonder if it might make the most sense, after the Governor has explained himself, to immediately call a general election. If he is re-elected, then the people will have shown that they believe he still has what it takes to lead us forward.

##Prop 6.34 Require Governor Bo to make a public statement explaining the situation surrounding Councillor Brain's death after which, he will stand down as Governor. A snap election will then be called, in which Bo will be allowed to run again.

All the numbers in the docs are updated:

Phase 7 "The Enemars"

Your council has had a tough phase 6. Unfortunately the King did catch wind and you lost a -1 support of crown. The witch has yet to be found -1 Morale; however the people are happy to partake in a feast and drink of the rum. A party thrown by the governor to boost morale. Morale +1. This phase you must prepare a 7 item request list for the king.

*Crisis / Reward*
A group of heavily armed men emerge from the wood. They lay their swords at their feet and ask to speak to the council. Their leader steps forward; "I am Sir Raleigh of the Playdipian Defense Force and demand to know immediately who your colony represents."
A) Inform him you are webDipian and continue discussion
B)Inform him you are webDipian and demand he leave immediately
C) Inform him you are independent and continue discussion
D) Inform him you are independent and deman he leave immediately
E) Councilor created action

*tech and such*
Canning and Mining 2 were both discovered these will be reflected in building guide.

*Buildings*
All were completed see resource guide

NOTES:
-You have 3 expedition parties searching the area. The rowboat returned to the colony.
-You need to have a request list together by phase end for resupply
-You have a crisis/reward so this is a moment where your actions can decide your fate. Do not take first contact with Playdipia lightly.
-Haliburton further trained his nurses. In Halburtons absence your colony now only loses -1 Health instead of -2.

Lieutenant- I saw the barbarism of playdipian scum. I say we string them up right here and gut them.

Killian- Do we really want to carry our kings conflicts to the new world. They can be really good trade partners.

Captain Rick- I remember in the merchant fleet we all knew 2 things. One, you should never question a superstition. Two, Playdipians are never to be trusted.

##GM since the proposal to name Brain the witch passed shouldn't Morale have flat lined?

I'm fine with that.

I believe either last phase or this phase is my last as Governor in this term, and I would be more than happy to serve again. I don't think that anything I have done has been outside the interests of the colony, though I'm sure some would disagree with that. That said, if anyone else would like to take a stab at it and has fair support from the Council, I will happily step aside for the time being and take on a minimized role for the next few phases. That should be a fairly minor matter this phase, though. Aside from dealing with the Enemars, doing our best to make a good list for the king is paramount.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Since I have a majority, I will step forward to speak with Sir Raleigh. I take my sword and lay it at my feet as he did and tell him that we are WebDipian and that we are willing to be cautiously peaceful with him if he is willing to do the same thing. I tell him that we have questions for him as I'm sure he does for us, and we can both be better off by talking and being reasonable. ##gm can I tell about how many men he has with him?

I would say that we should continue to ask for things we can't make ourselves, like animals or chemicals. Maybe we should ask for some books and newspapers to boost morale??
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
29 Sep 17 UTC
Morale should be okay, I think. It has to drop to 0 before any major action is taken off of it. Still, I'm not opposed to boosting morale at all - hell, I've spent 100 food and a barrel of alcohol to do that so far this game all on my own.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

*Mid Phase Puzzle*

The nain rouge appears before the council. His hands dripping with blood and his mouth agape in a wide sickening smile. He lays a birds nest at Governor Bo's feet before vanishing. The council is awe struck. How could such a powerful being exist.

Bo looks in the nest and finds 3 vials. One red, One blue, and One green.

Beneath them a note reads:

"You have a choice and choose you must; or else my wrath will be dangerous.
I may be red but im green with envy; jokes aside I can be quite deadly.
I'll tell you a tale of my storied past; one of pride and deceit and a spell miscast.
I saw myself as a warrior red; who's blade was coated by the enemies dead.
I saw my enemies as green and unkempt; trolls who deserved to die for a life misspent.
I saw her as a woman with eyes of blue; her voice the only one able to soothe.
One night she grew a bitter ill; and i was desperate to save her still.
I bartered with demons and dabbled in magic; I tried to prevent an end so tragic.
I found a spell that would make her well; little did I know i'd damn us to hell.
She burned with me for a millennia before I was offered a choice I could not ignore.
The devil offered to set her soul free; but first he had a task set for me.
So he sent me here to our world as you see to cause havoc for an eternity.
So my only hint today is short and is sweet; do not be like me, and do not wallow in defeat.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
29 Sep 17 UTC
(We gather that he intends for one councilor to drink one of the potions you may have a councilor drink as many or as few as you wish. However no more than one councilor can drink each. So Councilor A could drink up to all 3 but Councilors A and B can not split any one vial.
RagingIke297 (142 D)
29 Sep 17 UTC
Based on what he said he is red, his enemies are green and his wife is blue. His wife spent a millenia in hell, he's not normal any more, but his enemies (even though he says they should be dead) seem fine. I might be digging too far into it, or not enough...
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
29 Sep 17 UTC
Le nain rouge literally means the red man, so I can confirm that much.
Claesar (4660 D)
29 Sep 17 UTC
Even though I feel my previous actions were justified, for the sake of the Colony I must repent. I volunteer to drink any or all potions.
Kench (1169 D)
29 Sep 17 UTC
I'm not convinced that drinking the green vial makes the most sense. His enemies have been defeated by his own sword, and we are told not to wallow in defeat. Equally, the message we received upon departure suggested that we should "Beware offending the Nain Rouge". On the off chance that to drink a vial is to declare some alignment, I think it would offend him if we chose to drink the vial representing his enemies. I do see, however, that she burned in hell and that could be complicated.

I suggest that whoever drinks (Count Carsálé, if he is certain) should choose option D: drink the purple vial.

Red and blue are the only two colours that will mix here without making an unsightly brown. We are avoiding being like him (drinking red) or burning like her (drinking blue). And, symbolically, we are re-uniting the two of them, which is what he has come here to do in the first place.

[Suggestion] Alternate winning conditions
vDiplomacy has a way to set up "alternate winning conditions", e.g. to customize how many turns are played and/or how many SCs need to be conquered before a winner is declared. For example, we can have a game of Classic running for 14 turns (Fall 1907).

FFS WHY?
Why does online Diplomacy give me Germany to start with in every single game I sign up for?
Seriously, does it use region-based IP-checking? Because I'd really like to try out different countries and strategies.
And no, taking over Leavers doesn't count because you always get a losing position way past the point of getting a proper strategy rolled out (that's why the original player threw the game)

1v1 Showdown - An Update
110 players entered. After 8 months, 11 are still fighting for the title, and of those 11, just 2 remain undefeated.

That number is about to become 1.

Spambot. What does it mean?
I saw two players banned for Spambot. What does Spambot mean? I can't remember this from Rules.
