Does Empire4 (Fall of the American Empire) need to be balanced?
Unless most other Diplomacy maps, Empire4 is not very balanced and a few nations have severe disadvantages that make it very difficult for them to win while others are fairly overpowered. I can explain more if someone wants to ask.

Rival/hatred game variant
I'd like to play a game mode where each player is secretly given a unique rival (so no two players share a rival), and the only players counted at the end of the draw are those who have both survived and eliminated their rival. A solo doesn't need to eliminate their rival and rivals aren't necessarily symmetrical.

Unknown Player in Anonymous Private Game
I'm completely new to Diplomacy and this website. I made a private game and explained to my friends how to join my private match. Though only 2 people say they've joined, I have 3 anonymous players other than myself registered. Is it possible one of them joined twice? I know by the time stamps that it was one of the first two players who joined the game, the times are only a minute apart, and I am wondering if the small time frame is just a player joining twice.

Were a Monarchy. We serve the king. Many of the specialists we were thinking of hiring favored democratic reform. In fact I think the brotherhood has something to do with that.

I like the idea of giving colonists ability to elect a governor and have all other positiins be decided by the council. I think reforming the colony to be a congeess and having our people making all the plans is a bad idea. We can allow our specialists to vote sure.

With your public action it seemed like you were trying to drum up public support, but currently it doesn't matter what the public thinks. Not that their opinion doesn't matter, but for all intensive purposes they are followers of the crown and we are the hands that act on behalf of the crown.

Ah my young lad. The masses always matter. Sooner or later they always want to have a voice. The sooner you give them one the less likely they are to become dissatisfied. Reforms that give people a sense of belonging will undoubtedly improve our government and boost morale. We want to do so in a manner which also upholds the kings vision. But what if the king doesnt know that ending slavery could improve hos kingdom? Should we not take it upon ourself to be a satillite center of political experimentation and "progressive" in his name?

Shouldnt we provide him a real working - living example of why courting the people, the citizens is the best way to earn their loyalty. And if you build enough morale through positive reforms you can survive food shortages/wars/famines and your morale penalties are effectively not back breaking

With our recent wool trade - I propose we begin using financial rewards to encourage individual prosperity. It should boost morale to begin using money made from trades to create a self sustaining economy. This will improve our morale. It doesnt have to be a regular thing but I think that we should all enjoy the benefits of our wool trade. Remember we bought the wool for a lesser amount of silver than we sold it for. We earned a 150 silver markup for a deal well struck.

With the 350 silver reward for our wool we pay each councillor 10 silver.
Our Scribe position is more difficult so it deserves 25
Our Governor should be paid 50
Rick should be paid 40
And our Lieutenant paid 30
We pay Haliburton 30
And pay Miner guy 30

Social Reforms
##Prop 6.1 Children of slaves are born free citizens.

##Prop 6.2 Slaves may be given freedom upon completion of 6 phases of consecutive work.

##Prop 6.3 establish a retirement fund for the elderly. Each person over the age of 50 may opt to retire and be given silver per phase sufficient to minimum cost of living. Applicants must show proof of age and request to enter retirement. Colony will only allow 10 applicants per phase to retire in any given phase.

##Prop 6.4 Each young person reaching age 16 will enter into military training under Ike, Rick or the Lieutenant.

##Prop 6.5 create three branches of military, navy led by rick, army and colonial defense led by Ike and our rangers/scouts led by the lieutenant.

##prop 6.6 allow maternity leave for workers starting families. Up to 1 phase for both the husband and wife. Workers must apply and a maximum of 15 per phase

##prop 6.7 provide 1 silver per phase to each worker, starting phase 9. including slaves.

##prop 6.8 offer Isaac a continuous sequential supply of wool in exchange for 450 silver per phase.

##prop 6.9 Allow citizens to vote on governor. Including slaves.

##prop 6.10 establish docking fees. Any arriving ship not bearing our kings standard must pay a fee of 35 silver. Ships which come regularly like Isaac may avoid this fee by agreeing to a status of trade agreement

##prop 6.11 create status of trade agreements. Any potential trade partner should be consistent- trade with us regularly. Initially we offer a trade partner 50 silver per visit in addition to whatever we offer for their wares. In exchange they agree to do business with us regularly. Visitors looking to avoid docking fees will be paid 25 silver per visit instead under the promise of high quality offerings. Any trade agreement will be signed by the Governor and Rick. Trade agreements include liability for lost or stolen ships while in our immediate area.

Councilor Brainbomb found a sealed letter with a Brotherhood seal on it that was left in his quarters he has brought it to the council.
"Hello Councilor Brainbomb, you have expressed your thoughts on progress and we would love for you to join us; we are few here in the colony but with the potential for a shift in leadership we look forward to your guidance and the direction you could take the colony. If you wish to join us address the people once more and say the words "Freedom, Liberty, and Prosperity"

Lieutenant- I am in favor of you expressing to these traitors that you wish to join them; maybe then they will reveal themselves.

Captain Rick- Ignore them. The people have already expressed their disdain for our councils public political addresses.

Captain Rick - I have stayed auxiliary to much of your councils decision making and i do not intend to change that however I feel it helpful to lay out the issues before us:
-Witch
-Brotherhood agents
-Sir Isaac
-Enemars: Village search + Moon Cat

We have a lot on our plate councilors and we need to prioritize or find a way to combine these issues with solutions.

Lieutenant- I feel it may be worth it to invest in walls around our original colony. Each wall in the building options list would defend one side of a grid square. So when you build a wall i'd need to be told for example U19 North. It is best we start this now. Every wall adds some defense.

Im not interested in making changes through illegal actions. Liuetenant is correct here. We absolutely do not want councillors to be puppets of special interest or corruption. I will apologize to the people for encouraging talk of this kind. I am not a secretive man. I do not want to engage in that style of politics. Id like to have these men rounded up and questioned. Id like to know why theyre here and what they want. I will deliver no speeches this phase as I dont want to incite criminal behavior. Unless we think I should to lure them out

We need to set an example on Isaac however. Or people will think were idiots.
Im fine with walls. We should absolutely get walls

We should for sure reduce our issues by recalling the men on the boat and holding off on making a move vs the brotherhood. I think the social reforms will get us back lost morale.

I can initiate once per game a slave rebellion
Isaac was selling congolese and I could prompt them to mutiny. I assume since its a once per game our odds of catching him goes up. I dont know how many slaves were aboard but If I prompt my rebellion at the very least it may buy u

We get our wool back this way. Amd we capture the congolese and free them for assisting us. Given our reforms we can detain Isaac, put him on trial and sentence him.

Prop 6.13 - Dealing with the Merchant Isaac
- Henceforth Isaac shall be considered an outlaw within this colony. Should he ever return to this colony he will be arrested and tried for crimes against the colony
- I propose that we send a mission after Isaac with the primary goal to be the recovery of our kidnapped citizen, the secondary concern the arrest of Isaac and his men. This should be a minimum number of soldiers in the party to accomplish this mission as the needs of the colony cannot be forgotten.

In light of the above proposal, I ##Vote Nay on 6.1-6.12

[Suggestion] Alternate winning conditions
vDiplomacy has a way to set up "alternate winning conditions", e.g. to customize how many turns are played and/or how many SCs need to be conquered before a winner is declared. For example, we can have a game of Classic running for 14 turns (Fall 1907).

Why does online Diplomacy give me Germany to start with in every single game I sign up for?
Seriously, does it use region-based IP-checking? Because I'd really like to try out different countries and strategies.
And no, taking over Leavers doesn't count because you always get a losing position way past the point of getting a proper strategy rolled out (that's why the original player threw the game)
