Going against the best team in the NFL and holding them to only one touchdown. Rodgers can run for 1st downs all day, since we love tackling him with big hits.

Ok, so I've just inflamed half a dozen trolls who are reading this this morning. Going to enjoy hearing from them all day. But it isn't the trolls that have me down. It is the liars!

Great American Political Quotes
Europe is so different than America that European political philosophy has little relevance in the United States. (2012 should keep it that way as well).
I dedicate this thread to American political quotes.

Check out this guy - Machiavelli is right
gameID=77832

In a 5 minute live game, Turkey, Russia, and England don't show up. I (playing France) move immediately to Cancel and Austria, some guy named Octopus_seppuku, refuses and quite obviously wins due to the Balkans, Turkey and Russia being uncontested. I just find that very poor sportsmanship and not in the spirit of the game. I guess he needed to pad his rating or something. How utterly base and sad.

Arizona Bans Mexican/Native-American Texts From Classes, Including...Shakespeare?!
http://www.salon.com/2012/01/13/whos_afraid_of_the_tempest/singleton/
In a meeting this week, administrators informed Mexican-American studies teachers to stay away from any units where “race, ethnicity and oppression are central themes,” including the teaching of Shakespeare’s classic ["The Tempest"] in Mexican-American literature courses.
1. What is up with Arizona's Latino-phobia, and 2. Really...Shakespeare banned as Latino Lit? O.O

Newbie question
I'm new to the site and am looking at "Bye, Points" active game. Says no in game messaging, anomymous players. Yet I see Italy supporting Austria and another cooperation later in the game. How does this happen? Doen't look like a lucky guess to me

Right, looks like the old forum thread got locked, but this gives me a nice chance to start a fresh thread for the second round

Group A - Waiting for games 2 and 3 to end.
Group B - santosh, Gobba, mdrltc through
Group C - Maettu, uclabb, democ, Victorious through
Group D - jcbryan97, discordia, Lando Calrissian through,

The better of BrainOfBoru and the fourth place player from Group A will also go through (replacing *) below

Group X (Group B & C) is already decided:
santosh
Maettu
Gobba
uclabb
mdrltc
democ
Victorious

Group Y (Group A & D)
jcbryan97
discordia
Lando Calrissian
A1
A2
A3
A4 / BrianOfBoru

I think we wait till Group A games complete and start both sets of second round matches at the same time. This should be inside the week. Do bump this thread occasionally so it doesn't get locked again~

Do post here to confirm you know you're in the second round (I'll send PMs around before we start). If you won't be available for some reason, let me know, I'll draft in a replacement.

question from a firs time participant; i just played with France, England and Turkey. Does than mean i wont get to play with those countries in the next round? If so, i can already prepare myself for a very nasty round considering i played with the three safest countries.
Victorious (768 D)

firs = first.
santosh (335 D)
05 Dec 11 UTC
bump. We could do that, if such an allocation is possible. I'm not sure if the information you'll give away with that can or will be used. If we allocate randomly, about 63% of the time you'll only play at most one country again from the first round, which is a lot less effort and good enough odds, I think.
Victorious (768 D)
05 Dec 11 UTC
its not that i dont want to be those country again :)

Maettu
Gobba
uclabb
mdrltc
democ
Victorious

Group Y is
jcbryan97
Manas
Kamen
giorgio
Lando Calrissian
discordia
BrianOfBoru

The format for round 2 will be the same, but I'm thinking of using priority lists for countries. I'll put down complete details soon.~
Troodonte (3379 D)

Congrtz Manas.
You played well, but Italy was too slow to realize that me, him and Austria had to join to stop your solo.
Giorgio...why did you have to attack tunis when i took it from england? I convoyed to apulia because you moved all your fleets back... than, in the last turns you even supported yourself when i convoyed to tuscany to help and supported your amy to piedmont instead of hitting tyrolia and let me in piedmnt to help... Nap and rom supporting each other...what for when germany was reaching iberia?
jcbryan97 (134 D)
11 Dec 11 UTC
sure were a lot of solos in the first round.
Will we wait until January to start?
santosh (335 D)
11 Dec 11 UTC
We could start at once and each group can pause for as long as it needs to. Unless someone won't have any time for more than a fortnight, in which case we should delay the start.
Kamen (1935 D(S))
12 Dec 11 UTC
I would suggest that we start ASAP, and that we agree to pause when anybody will need it.
Manas (818 D)
12 Dec 11 UTC
Thanks Kamen and Troodonte. In all three games, Giorgio is the second highest in terms of SCs, but I feel he prioritized eliminating smaller powers rather than stopping the solo, which made soloing easier.
Victorious (768 D)
12 Dec 11 UTC
i wouldnt mind waiting till january. But if people want to start right away, i wont get mad :)

santosh (335 D)

Right, so here's how it will work -

Country allocation in Round 2 is based on preference lists. Everyone in Group X needs to pm their list to Manas and everyone in Group Y to me. We'll allot countries as soon as we get messages from everyone.

Your preference list should look like this - Split all 7 countries into three groups, two of two countries each, and one of three countries . Then message them in like so - EF / ATI / GR - the parts will form your preferences for games 1, 2 and 3 in order. You can arrange the groups as you like.

I guess most of you have used preference lists at some point - essentially you're allotted the highest country on your list that isn't taken and doesn't clash with somebody else's list. If we run out of list, and some people don't have countries yet, we'll allot randomly. We'll try to make sure you don't get the same country twice, but if this can't be avoided, we'll stick with the best we can do.

Do post for clarifications.
uclabb (589 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
I don't understand the strategy of the preference system really... Is it just to put your three least favorite countries together?
santosh (335 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
The idea of a general preference system is to make it more likely that people will be playing countries they're good at, making the game better. I've just tried to extend that to three parallel games while trying to make sure they play different countries in all three, but it should hold.
uclabb (589 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
But if I have to choose all 7 countries how do I give preference to a specific one?

I had a misorder last night that I'd confirmed about 5 times and now I can see all of TC's threads even though he's muted. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this since I'm assuming this is a problem with my browser and not with the site?

It Happened in 1912...Will Another GOP 7-10 Split Help Obama Win like Wilson in 1912?
Everyone knows the story--William Howard Taft got the GOP nomination in 1912 (more due to Taft's being friends and more laissez-faire than actual popularity in regards to the powers that be than TR) but Teddy Roosevelt still had so much solo-name-starpower he became the most successful 3rd party candidate ever...but BOTH LOST to some fellow the Democrats ran by the name of Woodrow Wilson, due in large part to a split GOP vote. Do you think Romney/RP/Obama=Roosevelt/Taft/Wilson, 2012=1912?
