Introducing Family Members to Diplomacy
Hello, Diplomats. BlackJackP74 here again. I have a family that I think would enjoy this wonderful game that we enjoy. We number 4, including me. I have in mind the South American map from VDip. The only question is: how do I introduce them to the game without them losing interest?

[Update] Help me build a cheap PC for my media centre
So, I finally made a decision and purchased a slightly used Intel NUC. It has a 1.8 GHz i3 processor, 128GB SSD and 3GB RAM. It's a cute little box that hides nicely in the living room. I just watched an HD movie (Sicario) and the computer had no issue transcoding it. The fan wasn't audible over the speakers and I'm thinking it's a pretty good solution for anyone going that route.

Nope. The reason being that Bernie thinks Trump supporters are idiots, and no one will vote for anyone who they believe looks down upon them.

Don't want to speak for all Sanders supporters, but I don't want any of Trump's voters. I'm all for bipartisanship, but Trump supporters are closer to being fascist sympathizers than democratic socialists. I hope they split the GOP and tear it down just like Sanders is doing to the Democrats.

Hypothetical: Clinton and someone-not-named-Trump get the Dems and GOP nominations. Trump and Sanders go third and fourth party. What happens?

http://www.sciencealert.com/is-it-possible-for-groups-of-people-to-remember-something-that-didn-t-happen

People believe things that didn't happen, Sanders doesn't convince his target audience of angry trump voters, both 3rd and 4th party candidates are seen as a waste of time. But Trump voters waste their.

Hillary wins with under 40% of the vote.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
Bernie does NOT think Trump supporters are idiots, that is an extremely ignorant comment Octavious.

Trump voters and Sanders voters are all angry with the system. They see eye to eye more than the polarizing Dems/Repubs would have you believe.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
bosox, you definitely do not speak for all Sanders' supporters. Trump supporters are angry blind people that need to see the light being hidden from them with bigotry. The Nazi party was fascist, but German citizens that didn't fight the Nazis were mostly just blinded by propaganda, they weren't fascist themselves.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
the crazy thing is that Trump isn't the originator of the propaganda. Fox News is. And Trump is spouting the same propaganda and that is going to make the Conservative Right Fear Machine implode on itself.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Dec 15 UTC
What will make the Conservative Right Fear Machine inplode?

Will it take a world war??
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
It will take them nominating Trump and having Trump lose in a landslide in the general election. If they avoid nominating Trump, the Fear Machine lives on.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
I firmly believe that neither sanders nor trump would run third party if they lose their respective nominations.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))

Hillary will never beat Trump in a landslide. Sanders easily could.

"Hypothetical: Clinton and someone-not-named-Trump get the Dems and GOP nominations. Trump and Sanders go third and fourth party. What happens?"
GOP vote gets split, Clinton wins the bulk of the Dem states, and Sanders wins Maine, Vermont, and some of the swing states.
ND (879 D)

I don't think that Sanders or Trump go third party. Although, there is a slightly higher chance that Trump would. Sanders is still a (I) Senator from Vermont and he caucuses with the Democratic Party. If he went third party in the presidential election that throws the Republicans the Presidency. Sanders would lose a lot of goodwill with the people he works with in the Senate.

Some of you may contest this point, but I challenge you to look at third party presidential bids in American history. Find me a time in the 20th or 21st century when a third party presidential candidate won. I'll make it easier on you because it has never happened. America has a two-party system and third parties are inherently disadvantaged in the system. Some may point to the election of 1860, but there were four parties in that election not three.

Trump has a slightly higher chance of going third party, but that is only if he loses the nomination. I am pretty sure at this point that he is going to get it so discussing him as a third party candidate is pretty fruitless. Now, maybe the GOP establishment revolts if Trump gets the nomination and someone like Jeb Bush runs third party, but I see that as a very slim possibility (if it happened the election would be a democratic win for sure).

"Hillary wins with under 40% of the vote."
We do absolute majority here, she would HAVE to get at least 270 electoral votes or it goes to the House of Representatives to decide among the top 3 candidates. Considering the House, Hillary would lose that round.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
28 Dec 15 UTC
"Hillary wins with under 40% of the {popular} vote" is a reasonable prediction if Trump runs as an independent.
Octavious (2701 D)

Lol!

A few weeks back y2kjbk sets off on an unlikely mission to convert Trump voters (Trumpertons? Trumpets? Trumpanistas?) to Bernie voters, and against all expectations has already convinced himself that the best way to defeat the Republican Fear Machine is for Trump to win the Republican nomination :p.

I'll tell you what will really knock the Republicans for six. If Trump actually becomes president and proves to everyone what a bad idea it is. Hell, if Trump gets made president for life it will prove it beyond doubt and be the final nail in the Republican coffin. You should campaign for that!
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
You're scared of Trump getting the Republican nomination because you think he will win the general election? Sanders is an attempt to fix the corruption in the Democratic Party, Trump is an attempt to fix the corruption in the Republican Party. Both nominations would actually be positive, but Trump is so vitriolic that so many of us just want him to disappear. It was the media's decision to make sure Trump never disappeared.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
Trump said it himself, he brought some of the highest ratings to the Republican debates. The media love him, regardless of what any anchor would say on air.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))

ND (879 D)
28 Dec 15 UTC
@y2k: Um, if he got high ratings its not because the media loves him it's because people tuned in to watch.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
the media could ignore him and no one would be able to watch him. Fox News actually tried to ignore him for a while and their viewers just got pissed off. The liberal media love him because not only does he drive ratings, he's actually an atomic bomb within the GOP race for the nomination. Trump is a dream come true for CNN/MSNBC.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Dec 15 UTC
i'd watch Trump too if a news station went on and on about him. the media can't excuse what they show by just saying it's what the people want to see. look at Octavious, he and most liberals want nothing more than for Trump and bigotry to just disappear. unfortunately that's not how the world works, hate doesn't just disappear when it is this deeply rooted in the psyche of many Conservative (and Liberal) voters.

"Hillary will never beat Trump in a landslide. Sanders easily could."

I would have assumed the opposite. Sanders scares people by admitting to being a socialist, so they are driven to vote for the republican candidate despite his name being Trump. Hillary beating Trump because, she can.

So what happens if the vote is split 4 ways and no-one wins the majority of the electoral college?

Sanders would never beat any GOP candidate in a landslide because he is a fringe person (in the US most people don't call themselves Democratic Socialists).

After many years of fantastic service to this site and its community, TheMinisterOfWar has stepped down as a moderator. I'd like to thank him for all the hard work he's put in both on the moderation side, and on the driving this site forward. His work in the background has helped make this site a better place for everyone, and I look forward to hopefully being able to go to the Netherlands and meet him again at one of the Dutch FTF tournaments this year.

Cheers, TM.
