Hello, Diplomats. BlackJackP74 here again. I have a family that I think would enjoy this wonderful game that we enjoy. We number 4, including me. I have in mind the South American map from VDip. The only question is: how do I introduce them to the game without them losing interest?
[Update] Help me build a cheap PC for my media centre
So, I finally made a decision and purchased a slightly used Intel NUC. It has a 1.8 GHz i3 processor, 128GB SSD and 3GB RAM. It's a cute little box that hides nicely in the living room. I just watched an HD movie (Sicario) and the computer had no issue transcoding it. The fan wasn't audible over the speakers and I'm thinking it's a pretty good solution for anyone going that route.
Do we have a facebook page? I found one that looks like it hasn't been touched since 2012. Then I see a bunch called Webdip that look like they are locked.
After many years of fantastic service to this site and its community, TheMinisterOfWar has stepped down as a moderator. I'd like to thank him for all the hard work he's put in both on the moderation side, and on the driving this site forward. His work in the background has helped make this site a better place for everyone, and I look forward to hopefully being able to go to the Netherlands and meet him again at one of the Dutch FTF tournaments this year.
Damn, I thought I had been banned or something. I'm so glad it's up a running again. I'm so grateful, I'm motivated to curb my trolling. At least for awhile.
Might be jumping the gun on this but, any webdippers planning on attending this event? Never been to a f2f tournament myself but this seems like a good enough place to start.
Nice article. I was thinking about topography of the map earlier this morning. Since the both corner powers (England and Turkey) are gone. France is also on the periphery and has been eliminated. This means the home SCs where units can be built are all in quite close proximity to each other. Vienna, Munich, Venice, Warsaw. It doesn't get any closer than that for any 4 powers (though substitute Marseilles for Warsaw and you get a tie).
That in turn got me wondering if there are differences between the success rates of the Great Powers wrt Sum of Squares and Draw Size Scoring. I guess we'll see in the next few months.
I wrote this article, FYI. It's very much aimed at an audience who are not too familiar with Diplomacy. It doesn't really go into strategy and tactics as much, it focuses much more on the bigger picture, skipping over most of the individual phases to give the audience a general idea of what's going on in the long run. The idea was to use this to try to get a few people more interested in Diplomacy.
I'm planning to write an article for Diplomacy World which will be much more in-depth and aimed at players who know the game, so keep an eye out for that!
Hey, I was way more of a Californian than a Pacific Northwesterner at the time. And really, besides, any win from the West Coast region is a win for me.
Nonetheless, the moment you got here you should have forsaken California and accepted the superiority of your new home. Plus, team California's other sub had absolutely no connection to the west coast at all, so I need to oppose your team on principle.
I would like to make a non-drivel Forum post in honor of our Mods-Admins. We should thank them for a great 2015 and have a Webdip community driven award for one of them.
