What determines how many builds you get?
In Autumn I had armies on two of my three home suppy centers. I took another supply center and moved my two armies out of the home SCs. Is it because I had them occupied in Autumn that I only got one build this winter?

North Africa - Spain?
I just wanted to double check: Can one move across the Gibraltar with an army? I.e. A North Africa - Spain? I'm pretty sure you can't, but it would be convenient :-D

Moderators out there? Public service calls
If there are any moderators out there with a quantum of time to spend on some poor disenfranchised few: as a result of the recent banning of a certain player we got automatically paused, but one of our number has been awol for a while and we are unlikely to see him again. We've all voted for a draw except for this guy - would it be possible to let the draw go through...

Multi-Account Confession
Hi,

The user "jhsu" confessed to using a multi-account in the following game:

Multi-accounting
It has come to my attention that I have been multi-accounting under the aliases of: 'Blackheath Wanderer', 'Hat-trick' and 'Tup'

The burden of guilt cannot be bourne any longer however and I would ask that you cancel all three accounts fortwith.
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))
19 Oct 08 UTC
Account past game current game
Blackheath Wanderer 48 8
Hat Trick 4 6
Tup 5 5

So while not all the games of Blackheath were multiple cheats, there were clearly some. One of which was Betanin where the three had R-I-T and it is 1906 and poor Austria (gordonpup) is dead.

How about your GUILT drive you to go back to your games and issue a
personal apology to everyone whose time you wasted and whose efforts at gaming you demeaned?

One other thing, how about confessing your real name so that those who see you in the future can adjudge the extent of your redemption?

As an aside, if you played with your real name, would you have been less likely to cheat?

Edi, as someone who lied and dissimilated in every single contact we ever had together, and as someone who I suspect of multi accounting yourself, I really don't feel you are in any position to lecture.
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))
19 Oct 08 UTC
Go over your games with me again. We fought, you lost.
I play under my own name, And after 43 years in the hobby, yes I have a position to lecture as do all the people who have put in honest efforts to build the hobby and avoid the sort of destruction caused by cheating.
As for suspecting me of a multi-account. Please concentrate your efforts on a path to reconciliation and redemption and maybe a little restitution before digging yourself further into a hole.
Good grief you're full of it!

Now try telling someone who is interested.
Centurian (3257 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
You know Edi, none of us really know that you are in fact the real Edi Birsan. It wouldn't be difficult to impersonate him. I think you are a great player, but tone down the self-righteousness please.

As for you Blackheath. I am shocked. However, I reviewed one of your games with hat-trick and it was really blatant. You do seem to have an odd personality, quitting the league and throwing games. Are you a sore loser? Thanks for confessing though.
kestasjk (99 DMod(P))
19 Oct 08 UTC
Since your ID is 5389 and the other two were 8244 and 8300 it looks like you went for a while without multi-accounting, so I banned the latest 2 accounts and left the first one unbanned, but took the points you have away (if someone else had reported you all 3 would have been banned, so if any other multi-accounters are watching feel free to post here)

Thanks for letting us know
Ursa (1617 D)

Pity.

Re-education perhaps?
That DOES explain a game I had with him. http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5717

I couldn't understand why Tup, as Italy, kept assisting England in his invasion of France, even while Italy itself was being invaded. Italy never sought to defend his homeland.
jenspo (1242 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
I am in a game with tup and Hat-Trick. And I have suddenly lost all interest in the game. Is it possible to cancel the game, like if it never happend.
@Kestasjk
In the game http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=6004, would it be possible to swap Ed Poon (Italy) and Jefe (Russia) into the spots of France and Germany? They have been nearly eliminated from the game due to the multi-accounting, and I would rather see them be the ones to take over the "cd's" than outsiders. That is, if it is possible, and if they desire it.

Further, I am making a request of the community to not jump and take over the cd's for at least 24 hours so they have a time to see the situation and the request.

Another option that has been put forth by Jenspo (Austria), is that we declare the game a draw. But if we do that, we would not want the multi-accounts to get credit.

Again, so far as I know, only Jenspo and Myself are currently aware of the situation and you just paused the game.
Centurian (3257 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
They would not get credit for a draw. Not only are they not accounts anymore but cd countries don't count for draws.
Isn't choosing your friends to fill CDs a form of metagaming?
Oh... never mind, I read the post again.
I gotta say that the confession is really weak and there is no obvious signs of remorse. 'It has come to my attention..... Really? You didn't know you were cheating until someone told you? Show some balls.
Ed Poon (100 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
Hey kestas, is there anyway we could draw the game and get Jefe his fair share? It kinda sucks that he's going to get punished for unknowinly playing with a cheating SOB.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
Ed: by having everyone type "/draw" into global chat.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
@Kestas; Hey, he asked for all three accounts to be banned! I say grant his wish and ban all three, and let that be a warning to anyone thinking of multi-accounting, the Dip equivalent of a 'Capital Crime'.
kestasjk (99 DMod(P))
19 Oct 08 UTC
I'd rather give people an incentive for coming forward by letting them re-legitimize their accounts
Centurian (3257 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
I'd say he would probably rather just start a new account then live with the shame.
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))

Frankly his performance indicates that he is the real Edi.
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
I'm surprised, I always held Blackheath with the esteem I give to legitimate players... at least when I played with him he had not been so lowered.

Anyways, his accusations against Edi are empty. He's as clean as Kestas on the multi accounting detection system.

As to whether or not he's the real thing, he certainly does a good job of seeming to be the real thing. He's been very proactive at trying to hook people up with face to face games in their areas, calling upon many of his old contacts, and even sending me a Diplomacy board to help my efforts here at McGill. If it looks like an Edi Birsan, swims like an Edi Birsan, and quacks like an Edi Birsan, then it is probably an Edi Birsan.
Centurian (3257 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
I don't honestly believe that it isn't him. I was just making a point. I don't think his real name argument is valid at all.
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))
19 Oct 08 UTC
I admit the real name thing is a real generation gap for me. And while I think it is a valid argument, it does not mean that the counter to it is not also valid. I come from the old school where we can both be right just disagree.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
I'd like to see a 'Real Name' system just because it would let us know real names and eliminate multis, but it'd be impossible to create or enforce, and I really wouldn't want the government to enforce something like this on the internet, either, which seems to be the direction South Korea is headed. /shudder
spyman (424 D(G))

There is a difference between lying "in-game", which we all know is part of the game, and blatant cheating. The internet provides anonymity which sometimes manifests itself in anti-social behavior that might not occur otherwise. I think the point Edi was making, was "would you still behave like that" if you weren't hiding behind a username. I fail to see how making that point is any way self-righteous.
At least Blackheat had the decency to confess - so he is part way to redemption. Multi-accounting is the scurge of on-line gaming. It is not too bad here, but it is a serious problem on some sites.
Friendly Sword (636 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
Its true that anonymity sometimes allows for radical alterations in personality, leading to online trollers and such, but for myself I find that difficult to keep up over long periods of time (say, in a diplo game) being totally different than who you are just gets to you. Or it does to me. I act and sound remarkably similar to how I do in real life :(

Perhaps my spelling online is better or worse than my real-life unuciation...
mac (189 D)

Gosh! I have to say that the tone of the confession was so strange I believed it was a joke, a bit as if I had said: "I have multiaccounted with the names of MarekP, Rait and mac... please remove the three of them".

While it was a true confession! :-O

Well... I have to say that I give credit to the man for confessing it. It takes some guts to face the community rage...
youradhere (1345 D)
20 Oct 08 UTC
A real-name system would scare off far too many players.
From that, you could look at when they sign on for time zone, and look them up in any phone books.
Sorry about the paranoia, but after seeing 4chan once, I think its very much justified.
Tirpitz (100 D)

Instead of being a drama queen why didn't he just stop using those accounts and go legit?
Centurian (3257 D)
20 Oct 08 UTC
I think that was his plan. But like most criminals, he found it difficult to avoid taking credit for getting away with it
Chrispminis (916 D)
20 Oct 08 UTC
Indeed, he could have silently contacted a moderator who would have had some discretion in the matter, but I think he felt a public apology was in order. Odd wording... but still respectable.
Wow, I seem to have provoked something here.

1) I know the 'confession' was oddly worded, but most of my forum contributions are a bit!
2) I was getting so suspicious of everyone else multi accounting I though "why not" and only intended to use the one account once...
Oh the slippery slope!
3) I then got so bored of bossing games from the opening that I decided to admit to the accounts
4) Even with 2 or sometimes 3 accounts in a game, I was still often beaten by combined efforts, which almost proved my point in another thread that the best team combination is that of the 2nd and 3rd placed powers when the first country gets to 12+SCs
5) The reason I threw a number of games recently is that I am off on holiday on Saturday, and wanted to wrap everything up before I headed off rarther than get a babysitter or CD, which I hate others to do.
6) And why confess rather than just let two of the accounts go fallow? Well, I see it as a gauntlet thrown down to all other multi-accounters. I dare you to to confess!

Thank you for offering to keep my account open, but I think I shall now bow out for good.

Happy wandering :)

Everyone has unpaused except for Blackheath Wanderer. Seeing as he's afk in almost all his other games, and he's recognized himself as a metagamer, anychance one of the admin can unpause the game for us? or at least put him in civil disorder so we can get another player?

Q for Moderators
The game D'oh (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=6167) was paused when Hat-trick was removed. Two players have missed the last turn, one of them the last two. When will they also go into civil disorder now that the game is paused, or when will it be unpaused if they don't vote for it?

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question.
