Wisdom or Rubbish? A Thread for Evaluating Famous One-Line Nuggets of Advice.
Post your favorite--or most hated--one-line maxim or saying or quote or *insert another synonym here.*

The next person to post will then say what they think of your posted saying, ie, Wisdom or Rubbish and why, and post their own little one-liner. Repeat until hell freezes over (or we get bored...or we devolve into a name-calling contest...whichever comes first...ha, as if it's a question which will come first...)

Rank falling dramatically
So, one day my rank said that I was in the top 62% and I was considered a member... but then randomly it fell to the top 92% and now I'm a casual player. I didn't draw, win, lose, survive, or resign any games in between this period. Why did this happen?

Draws in PPSC
I was wondering to myself why the pot is split evenly in a PPSC draw. I thought it would make more sense, and make things more interesting, if the draw ended the game and dealt out the points each player is currently "worth" in the game.

NFL Pick 'em--PLAYOFF EDITION...12 TEAMS, 1 GOAL...IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!
The Chargers are the last team standing in that crazy race for the 6th seed in the AFC. Aaron Rodgers rained all over Da Bears' parade, leading the Pack to victory and setting up another classic Niners/Packers clash...only this time, at Lambeau Field. A typical Cowboys/Eagles clash ended in the typical Cowboy way...but it was Orton throwing the season-ending pick this time. The NFC: SEA, CAR, PHI, GB, SF, NO. The AFC: DEN, NE, CIN, IND, KC, SD. The Playoffs...PICK 'EM!

tendmote (100 D(B))
20 Jan 14 UTC
@Pepijn If that is true, and your wife is a competent judge, then it does count. It's not what it is that is the question; it is the level of Mastery.

Well, it is true, as to her competency, maybe I should have clarified that she is from Devon, where scones are featured in the Devon cream tea. On the other hand, they are not the most taxing of recipes, so I find it difficult to say where the mastery comes in.

@Pepijn You're disqualified! No master would ever be so unsure of his own craft. Look at these other asshats, they don't know anything yet they *claim* mastery. They've mastered the first step of mastery as such. You, you're gone! Disqualified for being mealy-mouthed.
Octavious (2802 D)

@ Pepijn

You are the master of nothing. Devonshire dumplings (being little better than your average emmet) are famed across the civalised world for have no understanding of how to construct a cream tea. The cretins have somehow managed to get it into their heads that the cream is placed upon the scone before the jam!

The original and best cream teas are from Cornwall, and naturally the cream is placed atop the jam.

Do they take away your Bachelor's degree when you get married? ¿NO? Well, a degree that says "Master's" is equally a misnomer. I'm talking about ACTUAL MASTERY, not some nonsense qualification that says you obeyed your thesis advisor adequately.

Abge - I once came to work and my coworkers had popped all my keys out and rearranged them. I smiled and went on about my day, touch-typing in spite of them.
Pepijn (212 D(S))
21 Jan 14 UTC
@ Octavious

The statement has non sequiturs on so many levels, it's hard to know where to start! First, not being master of the noble art of scone making, does not mean that I am not master of something. Second, in which order to top the scones with clotted cream, jam and potentially butter, has little to do with my alleged mastery of baking. Third, according to my father in-laws, who claims to be Cornish by an inch, his countrymen do not use scones for cream tea but some other concoction.
Octavious (2802 D)
21 Jan 14 UTC
@ Pep

You condemn yourself with your own words. An amateur baker may well be content with a decent quality naked scone. The master baker you claim to be would not be satisfied by leaving the scone in such a state, and would dress it to perfection the way God and Cornwall know to be correct... Jam then cream.

Butter?!? The shame of it!

Naturally your true Cornishman can use scones in many ways, but in the form of a cream tea there are certain rules that keep us from savagery that must be obeyed.
