Rival/hatred game variant
I'd like to play a game mode where each player is secretly given a unique rival (so no two players share a rival), and the only players counted at the end of the draw are those who have both survived and eliminated their rival. A solo doesn't need to eliminate their rival and rivals aren't necessarily symmetrical.

Unknown Player in Anonymous Private Game
I'm completely new to Diplomacy and this website. I made a private game and explained to my friends how to join my private match. Though only 2 people say they've joined, I have 3 anonymous players other than myself registered. Is it possible one of them joined twice? I know by the time stamps that it was one of the first two players who joined the game, the times are only a minute apart, and I am wondering if the small time frame is just a player joining twice.

HTML hack the "move preview"
Is this why I always lose?
cspieker (18223 D)

So in some games I was playing there just seemed to be such perfect guessing of my moves over and over. It made me wonder if there might be some sort of HTML hack through which one could use the "move preview" feature to somehow show you someone else's stored moves?

I am not a computer engineer like probably many of you are, so I don't know how exactly it would happen, but maybe there might be some stored .jpgs of the board position that one could access if they guessed the correct URL? If there were such a URL it would probably have a psuedo-random code in the address, but I do understand that all pseudo-random are not created equal.

...and BTW, probably should have not posted the first sentence above. The code question is what I am asking about. Not about how obvious my moves are.

The preview is generated on your end - there are no URL's or anything for that.

Copy and paste the preview page URL in one of your games into an incognito window where you aren't logged in to see what shows up if you want to confirm that you're not getting snooped on by your opponents.

The previews are stored in the cache for the site on vDip, and that section is locked down to everyone except the game userID's which can't be accessed by other users...I know this because the day the feature was added here from vdip ATC and I spent more time then we would have liked removing it from the cache (ATC did most of the work) here because we couldn't get the cache locked down. So as HR said, there is no caching of the moves anymore and it cannot be generated by anyone aside from you. It's authenticated using sessions so the only way someone could "hack" it would be if you had given them your username and password. But at that point they could just log in as you and look at your moves anyways.

And on vDip where it is in stored by the site, it's protected in a way that can't be accessed by anyone else. So either way, you're in the clear, just be more unpredictable.

Vale Hugh Hefner
Hugh Hefner dies at age 91. A controversial character, extremely successful businessman, championed some Liberal causes, gay rights, marriage equality, Native American rights, gave many authors a break, eg Alex Haley, but also it has to be said, contributed to the objectification of women and exploited women for financial gain.

[Suggestion] Alternate winning conditions
vDiplomacy has a way to set up "alternate winning conditions", e.g. to customize how many turns are played and/or how many SCs need to be conquered before a winner is declared. For example, we can have a game of Classic running for 14 turns (Fall 1907).

FFS WHY?
Why does online Diplomacy give me Germany to start with in every single game I sign up for?
Seriously, does it use region-based IP-checking? Because I'd really like to try out different countries and strategies.
And no, taking over Leavers doesn't count because you always get a losing position way past the point of getting a proper strategy rolled out (that's why the original player threw the game)

Say Country 1 has units A and B and Country 2 has units C and D. What would happen if A supports B to C, and C supports D to B at the same time? Do the moves cancel out, or does B move to C (dislodging it) and D moves to B?
