Because in the long, dark maths tutorial of the soul this word was the only light.

Nincompoop
No explanation necessary!

Petard (but only when used in the expresion "Hoisted by my own petard")
So great is my joy when hearing this that I will automatically stop fighting and ally with anyone who uses it in Diplomacy. Thus far this has never happened.
hecks (164 D)
06 Jan 13 UTC
@Octavious -

My wife laughs whenever she hears "Hoist on my own petard" but only because her grandmother grew up speaking French, and in Canadian French, "petard," which means "bomb" in French, is slang for "fart".

True story.

Irrelavant.

My favorite words are those misused by people trying to sound intelligent. Here they are in no particular order:

Ironic - Alanis Morriset has led people to believe that it simply means "unfortunate coincident"

Ambivalent - most people think it means you don't have strong feelings about something one way or the other ... Exactly the opposite of what it means.

Comprise: any one who says "comprised of" is not only missing the point of the word, they're also using it incorrectly. You really mean "composed of" most likely.
achillies27 (100 D)
06 Jan 13 UTC
Thanks maniac, I remember those :)
And ulytau, probably, I never have to spell it, just say it. Anyway, that's irrelevant.
Still wrong?

****Peradventure****
definition: synonym of "maybe"

I read this word in Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" and it stuck to me.
Vanuatu, I plan on moving there one day. Just rolls off the tongue.
Phlegmatic, a particularly disgusting sounding synonym for lackadaisical.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
06 Jan 13 UTC
Alanis Morissette - isn't that ironic, don't you think :-)
ulytau (541 D)
07 Jan 13 UTC
Phlegmatic sounds nice, it just looks awful on paper in English.
Lackadaisical makes me think daisies and lazily watching them grow. Phlegmatic makes me think of phlegm. Hands down lackadaisical wins between those two.

The t is not silent in Tsunami
akilies (861 D)

Well it isnt supposed to be silent but people who speak english don't get how to pronounce the "TS" sound at the beginning of a word. Oddly enough tsunami has always been my favourite word, hence the "corrections"
AlexNesta (239 D)

Any good political blogs?
I had recently completed writing an essay on the threat posed to US hegemony by China. I revised it 7 times and changed it into a better essay. It may have a long way to go, but I wanted to see where it could be considered for publication.

Game Question
In one of my games (I'm playing Turkey) I have an army in Constantinople, a fleet in the Aegean, and a fleet in Bulgaria north coast. Could I use F (Aeg) to convoy Constantinople to Bulgaria, and in a separate move in the same turn move Bulgaria to Constantinople?

Webdip community, please help settle an IRL disagreement
Which of these TV shows is the most psychologically traumatic, and why: 1) Battlestar Galactica (99.75% of humanity wiped out by killer robots), 2) Walking Dead (zombie apocalypse), or 3) Breaking Bad (a handful of people die who (by and large) probably had it coming anyway). Please keep spoilers to a minimum or encrypted with ROT-13 encryption (http://web.forret.com/tools/rot13.asp).

Stop the aid to Africa! It does more harm than good
If the industrial nations really want to help the Africans, they should finally terminate this awful aid. The countries that have collected the most development aid are also the ones that are in the worst shape. Despite the billions that have poured in to Africa, the continent remains poor.

I (kind of) understand the lack of legroom, I (kind of) understand the side fees that they never tell you about, I (kind of) understand extra bag fees for overweight bags, but can't they just hand you your valuables in one piece?
