Any good political blogs?
I had recently completed writing an essay on the threat posed to US hegemony by China. I revised it 7 times and changed it into a better essay. It may have a long way to go, but I wanted to see where it could be considered for publication.

Game Question
In one of my games (I'm playing Turkey) I have an army in Constantinople, a fleet in the Aegean, and a fleet in Bulgaria north coast. Could I use F (Aeg) to convoy Constantinople to Bulgaria, and in a separate move in the same turn move Bulgaria to Constantinople?

Webdip community, please help settle an IRL disagreement
Which of these TV shows is the most psychologically traumatic, and why: 1) Battlestar Galactica (99.75% of humanity wiped out by killer robots), 2) Walking Dead (zombie apocalypse), or 3) Breaking Bad (a handful of people die who (by and large) probably had it coming anyway). Please keep spoilers to a minimum or encrypted with ROT-13 encryption (http://web.forret.com/tools/rot13.asp).

Stop the aid to Africa! It does more harm than good
If the industrial nations really want to help the Africans, they should finally terminate this awful aid. The countries that have collected the most development aid are also the ones that are in the worst shape. Despite the billions that have poured in to Africa, the continent remains poor.

ES-Series Guitar .. uhh... mutilated?
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/vintage-gibson-guitar-delta-baggage-leevees-214634001.html

Since I'm not qualified to ask questions about science, I'll go to something I know more about. Really, are airlines this stupid? I (kind of) understand the lack of legroom, I (kind of) understand the side fees that they never tell you about, I (kind of) understand extra bag fees for overweight bags, but can't they just hand you your valuables in one piece?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

It doesn't take much to ruffle your feathers, does it? : )

I would strongly recommend never travelling on an airplane with anything you can't afford to lose. He should have shipped it via UPS, or at least had the case in a big box to prevent this from happening. I mean, seriously, it was clearly a guitar, someone was just as likely to steal it as anything else.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
Article, abge... read it. He tried to take on carry on, as he did on other flights. I've seen guitars on carry on before; it's really not that uncommon. Delta wouldn't let him for whatever reason. I'd never take my guitar on a plane, but if you're going on tour, you don't have a choice.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
I read the article. I'm pretty sure every airline has a UPS/FedEx in it. If they wouldn't have let me take it, I would have tried to ship it before checking it. I'm not excusing the airlines, I'm just saying everyone knows how bad they are and until they get better, you should plan accordingly, because at the end of the day, it's your shit that's gonna get wrecked.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
That would add a charge and maybe he wasn't up for that... I just don't see why it couldn't be carried on.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
There's no reason it couldn't have been carried on. The airline should not only pay the $2k to repair it, but the $10k to replace it, as I doubt it will play the same ever again.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
Or be worth the same ever again.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
I think everyone knows there is no way they will pay up the full $10k without a lawsuit though.

true...airlines are stingy
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
You're right about that, bo. Especially with American Airlines (IIRC) going down the shitter due to strikes, Delta is looking pretty good in comparison, even if they destroy everything you own en route.
djakarta97 (358 D)

Yup, it's all relative

Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))

Guitar carry on is pretty ridiculous. They barely have room for the small wheels suitcases, usually the last ones on have to store those below.

Delta shutdown its shuttle flights on Delta Connections in retaliation for the pilot strikes.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
You'd store them up top and put some kind of suitcase in front of them so that they don't get banged around. There's space in the top compartments if you open both doors.
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
05 Jan 13 UTC
Yeah if your an inconsiderate hog. Other people have things they don't want lost as well.
djakarta97 (358 D)
05 Jan 13 UTC
True, but airlines look for economic ways to store bags, not proper ways.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
If you're an inconsiderate hog? It's carry on baggage, so you put it in the carry on spot. How does that make you more of an inconsiderate hog than the guy - everyone - that makes their bag 49.95 lbs and takes up a micrometer of extra space in the back compartment? How about the guy that puts their computer in the carry on area?
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
05 Jan 13 UTC
Because its too big for carry on, and you're taking up space for those who did pack in something of e correct proportions for carry on.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
You really think through that too hard, don't you? Who cares? Airlines tell you to suck their dicks all the time, why not return the favor every once in awhile...
just got a 400 dollar flight from Honolulu to the East coast and back, I'm not complaining about airlines for a while
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
Which airline?
Delta
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
05 Jan 13 UTC
I've flown 3 times in the last 2 months and in each flight passengers had to store carry on bags that were half the size of a guitar below deck bc there wasn't enough room, if its not s duffle or a backpack you should expect that it will not be going overhead.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
I just punched in a quick search.. Newark-Honolulu round trip on Delta was $628 with stops, I don't know where... where did you leave from?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
And I would be much more comfortable stowing a guitar underneath than checking it, Gen. Lee... maybe that's what they'd do. I've seen instruments on flights before though.
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
05 Jan 13 UTC
Yes I agree, but I guess the shape caused the airline to insist it was checked. You wouldn't expect to carry on fishing poles or something else in an awkward shape/size just bc it was less than 50 lbs.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
But fishing hooks are weapons, see, the TSA wouldn't allow those anyway.
Try leaving Jan 24 coming back Feb 11 if you don't believe me...

I believe you, just saying what I saw. I didn't give myself any bonuses either. Anyone remember what airline prices were before Katrina and the other oil-barraging hurricanes hit?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Jan 13 UTC
And I know that's not the *only* cause of the price inflation.... ^
